Ahh, so sweet that you wheeled the barrel for that beautiful woman🇮🇩🌴💞. I was hoping you would help her out. Of course you did...you both are such kind people & kind to all the locals that cross your path. Warms my heart. 💜 In the Philippines you also have to watch out for bottle water being sold. The locals will find discarded water bottles, fill them with tap water (which might make you sick), then use a lighter to re-seal the water cap back on (to look like is new) and then sell them to the tourist, especially in touristy landmark areas. This I learned from a Filipino friend who was showing us around her city. I’m sure the same is done in Indonesia and other Asia countries. Thank you for taking us along on your beautiful country stroll. Beautiful country & people. 🌴🌴🌴🌴🌴🌴🌴🌴😊
Ben, from the moment you noticed the honey was refrigerated, that should have said to you, hey that’s not real honey. Real honey do not require refrigeration.
I have lived in Phuket Thailand for 15 years and now the Philippines for 4 years. This "honey" you are buying is from a very small insect that harvests nectar from a jungle flower. It is very common but nothing like real bee honey. The insect has no honey comb structure to "cure" the nectar in. The locals know this, they are very well aware of the difference. Plus they use additives to increase the volume. Travel is always offering many lessons
nothing like real bee honey? I think youre mistaken. I was a bee keeper previously. The bees are native to Asia; Apis cerana or Apis Dorsata. They do not nest like European honey bees, Apis mellifera. which are invasive species introduced all over the world due to their temperament and honey making capabilities. This is most likely wild honey, Dorsata can yield 30+ kg of honey, slightly more than its european counterpart and cerana can only yield about 7kg, these are more aggressive and harder to rear. And what you talk about no honey comb structure is false, if they are domesticated or reared, or even in the wild produce end cones and comb structures.

I'm not sure as to the kind of honey that you got in Bali. But my group works with indigenous people in different parts of Asia and some of them make a living harvesting forest honey. Even when pure, some varieties will fail the tissue test, simply because the moisture content is high, sometimes as much as 27%. This varies depending on where the honey was harvested and the time of the year this was harvested. One liter of forest honey will set you back about US$16-18.

My husband and I are obsessed with watching you guys. I just took a video of him saying "we could be friends with these kinds of people, we could be like them just with three kids... We need a boat" ❤️
Here is a tip for negotiating price in Asia. Start at half (at most) the asking price then go DOWN from there. After two or three declining offers, start walking away. They will usually chase you down and agree to your initial offer. Hold your ground on your last offer and be prepared to walk away again. You will usually get the item for about a third of the initial price. You will still be paying more than a local would so don't feel too bad. If your gut tells you to pay asking price because you feel it is worth it, you can't go wrong with that either. Consider it a donation to the local economy.
That little engine powered cement mixer intrigued me! Apparently it is a 6-10HP horizontal diesel engine, made in China, known by the brand 'ChangFa' or Swan. Crank started, it has the peculiarity of being 'hopper cooled', that tank on top with the big opening is filled with water, and pools around the cylinder, boiling away and providing passive cooling. The compact size is due to these engines also being meant for use as agricultural tractors, basically like a ride on lawnmower, with a big belt wheel on one side, a headlamp 'up front' on the face of the engine. Amazing what neat little niche designs one comes across!
sorry to hear that Ben ... you can check also using Fire matches, dip it into the honey and try to ignite it. if there is water you cannot ignite it .... cheers.

One test is to dip a match head into the honey then try to strike the match, if the match burns it is honey, if not it has water and the match got wet. In the Philippines i pay 80 pesos/$1.60 for a pint (Tanduay Rum bottle). The honey I get here has a few small speckes in it and if you bite it it is the bees wax and once an actual bee was in one of the bottles. I just got a match wet with water and it still burned so that test is bogus😁. Store bought honey is usually sugar added and filtered and processed so it is not good either.
When he asked 200 I would have counter-offered 20, and then started the negotiation. Maybe ending up at 1/3 his initial asking price. Which would have been 7 dollars AUS anyway which is about normal prices. The trick is to not pay more than you would at home for the same thing. Good video.

Even in Canada, even if it is a pure honey, it is still expensive for that amount.
Real honey is always expensive. The garbage you find in grocery stores isn’t raw pure honey. Raw honey is 50-90 dollars in Florida and 8-11 dollars for the processed crap in the grocery stores.
