I had never heard a note of Failure, but I went to a Tool show in 95 or 96 maybe, and Failure opened. After about 2 songs I was totally obsessed. Been a huge fan ever since.
I was here at this show with my Toy Subs guitar player, Alex, and Dug Pinnick of King's X. We were off to left of the camera in this vid, but enjoyed every minute of it. I met drummer, Kellii (who was relentless), at this show, and he came over to party at my apartment afterwards. Great guy, and one of the fantastic bands on this planet. Sgt Politeness was a staple in our set because it was right up my alley, and I pushed for them any chance I got. So happy this show was captured, and stoked for the new album coming out! Long live THE Failure!
So many bands play sped up live, I imagine just to "get it over with" and for time constraints, and I find that a nightmare. The very best bands, imo, keep it at the same pace or slower perhaps, so we can savor the flavor.
@@Wolfdragon92584 true, its also really all down the the drummer to keep the tempo. Which often times happens where the drummer plays faster live which speeds everything else up. Sometimes its accidental other times its intentional
I want to just live in this music. It's so interesting that Ken Andrews asked his younger brother to show him some chords and just went onto be a MONSter of a musician. Fucking lethal this man. Everyone in this band is fucking fantastic. I just have a huge man crush on Ken Andrews haha. ANYWAY Back to listening to this whole set again.
Seeing how amazing they are live breaks my heart that i never got to see them live for myself, theyre SPOT on. The fantastic planet cd literally has a vibe that no other band during this era could achieve. Even though music nowadays is total shit, this band will always be the legendary underdogs of 90's alt rock. fuck man, you did us all a service by uploading this. Thanks so much.
@@nothingnew765it’s really phenomenal, I shouldn’t have pigeon holed it to rock bands. I think musical performances ever. Ken’s vision is so clear and his execution with the digital racks and effects are beautiful in the live scenario. The band is extremely locked in and tight and Ken manages to really have phenomenal concepts with albums. Definitely a band I wish I could seen during this point in their career.
This is a real treasure right here. So glad they're back. Saw them live on this 2022 tour and they've lost nothing, if anything they've aged like fine wine.
Fantastic Planet- One of the best albums of all time. I remember hearing "stuck on you" real late on 120 minutes back in the day when mtv played videos and I fucking loved it so I bought the album and I fucking loved every song. Was bummed they broke up almost right after I found out about them but everything happens for a reason I suppose...thanks for posting! Failure are great live!
I saw them twice on this tour - Seattle and Boston. Seattle was in April and they were FIRE. Boston was around this time and they were ill and running out of puff. Being from Australia, I felt blessed all the same to see them twice.
Excellent vid! I saw them on this tour in May 05 '97 at the Bottleneck in Lawrence, KS. Poster Children and Summercamp opened (check out "Poster Children - Junior Citizen" and "Summercamp - Drawer" songs). Later that summer saw them on the second stage of Lollapalooza. The 90's was just a great time in music and I don't say that being nostalgic. I was fully aware that it was a period of revolution in music, a total reawakening, and was seeing as many bands as I could. Glad I did.
Saw this in Santa Barbara, with Summercamp and Ednaswap....unreal. I just went to the El Rey show with The drummer and bassist from Summercamp. I agree about the 90's
I lived in Lawrence, KS during this period and the music scene there was phenomenal! I'd wager to say it was nearly up there with Seattle! Wish I would've caught the Bottleneck show!
so much talent, out of this world, I listened to failure on an off again for 20 yrs now, and this is one of THE only things I never got tired of or it got played out... I have nothing else to camper it too
The very first video that got me into Failure. I can still remember the feeling in my chest the first time i heard Ken sing the first verse of Stuck on You. Also made me tear up a bit
@@Bowler6611 Such an expressive song. Another Space Song and some others from Fantastic Planet perfectly express loneliness, or as you said "lost romance". Though, I choose to interpret a lot of those in the love department. But, ON (Ken's fronted project afer Failure) is the flipside of that coin, with a lot of happier relationship-themed songs. Hey, ever heard "The 23rd Boy" on Secrets of The Lost Satellite, or "C'mon Collapse" from Shifting Skin? The duality of Ken Andrews can make me cry tears of happiness, and crushing depression.
@@billy2896 No but I'll check them out! I find that Will Wood hits just as hard. Also I recommend a band named An Unkindness if you're into lyricism and more piano driven music that still ROCKS!
