- As the US warns of a potential power vacuum in Gaza, James O'Brien questions Benjamin Netanyahu's strategy amid escalating conflict between Hamas and the IDF.
Israeli troops have advanced for the first time towards the centre of Rafah and launched operations in several areas where there has previously been fighting.
Thousands of Israelis joined protests over the weekend calling for a deal to bring home hostages still held in Gaza by Hamas and the resignation of Netanyahu.
However, James argues that Netanyahu is 'not committed' to these demands and has a different motive entirely.

And some of the people punished for collaborating with the enemy weren't collaborators at all but were the victims of false accusations by their enemies. Just as some individual German soldiers might have been relatively innocent but the German occupation as a whole was brutal and illegitimate and entirely deserving of resistance and overthrow.

I'm not sure how you could say he doesn't subscribe to the concept of Greater Israel when you can literally just google "Bibi Greater Israel" and see him making headlines by using maps of a hypothetical Greater Israel in places where maps of real-life Israel should be.

Hamas never left. Israeli military does not have the know-how to deal with counter-insurgency.
If they gave equal rights to Palistinians and stop stealing their land and go back to living in peace, they wouldn't need to worry about insurgents. But they would have to worry about a growing population of Palistinians at the voting booths (something they want to avoid completely). So a 2 state solution is the only one possible (which Israel also will be against).
Where would they go? It's their home. Whatever you think of them and their actions, where realistically would they go?
