To those who have a problem with immigration. You better get out there and quickly find jobs. It's work that's going to put food on the table not rioting. It's work that's going to pay the bills not complaining. Sitting at home on handouts is not going to buy you a house. Unless you want to eat bread and water and live without heating in winter and a fan in the summer. You have to work , no matter where anyone lives in this world.
There are alternatives, David. We set up processing centres abroad in safe countries such as France, who have kindly offered to host such a centre, and use the money that has thus far been going to Rwanda to properly fund it all. Suddenly like magic, boat crossings would dry up and the few that do cross illegally would be deported with far more ease than at the moment as due to the safe routes established it can be argued in court that they are in fact not legitimate refugees.
17 million out of 68 million is not a majority. And that David does not KNOW that the Referendum Bill was ADVISORY ONLY. Not COMPULSORY. I am ashamed that the caller has the same name as myself. We are normally, unless Tories, sane, rational and nice people.

I think the caller doesn't know that to apply for asylum, you literally have to reach the UK mainland, this island. That is the legal requirement, the legal route to get here. That is the main problem. The caller really needs to realise this, otherwise we will not move forward.
Unfortunately, the English government just prefers to dodge the bullet and smear the current situation and paint this immigration as illegal. I would love to say the current immigration is illegal and the government has got the right approach, but it simply isn't the case.
No such thing as illegal immigration, if you do not have a right to be in the UK you are not an immigrant full stop. Asylum seekers always have a right to be in the UK, those who have failed in their application do not
So, you mean like literally ? OMG ! 🙀
...that's no excuse to illegally enter any country.
@@chatham43 This is the governments position but they've made it so that the ONLY way to claim asylum here in many cases is to get here and there's no legal way to do that. They stopped safe and legal routes and the numbers rose. I don't believe that's a coincidence but rather that it's a problem of the governments making.
If you are claiming asylum its not illegal, it doesn't matter how you get there. Any person can claim asylum in any country anywhere regardless of how they get there. It's really simple. Doesn't mean you will be granted it but you can claim it@@chatham43

David had to press multiple buttons to make this call. With each button-press he had time to consider the merits of continuing down his chosen path. Not only that, he had to wend his way past the call screener and wait to be connected to the studio whereupon he was aware that he would then be live on-air. So many opportunities to bail. So much time to formulate a cogent argument to proffer. And still David blundered on.
I hope, for his sake, he is not as incompetent in the rest of his life. How's it going with the Lady from Asia wife he didn't pay for?
There lies the problem. These people dont have a clue. So what he keeps changing what hes talking about
This is the fault of the murdoch press. They have created a universe where everything is linked: Brexit/immigration/housing/NHS issues/social issues+salaries, and the culprit is always Johnny Foreigner, be it as part of the EU, or as an immigrant, who will be illegal by default. Please tell us the positives about any of this David & why you will be voting Tory at the next election?

This was one of the most confusing conversations I have ever heard, well done David.
Just for the benefit of the person ringing in: “People must be physically present in the UK to claim asylum. It is not possible to apply for asylum via a UK embassy, or to apply for a visa for the purpose of coming to seek asylum in the UK”. House of Commons Briefing Paper. As James often says, do some research before going on national radio.
If they come from France then they are not refugees
There are millions of them.
And they live amongst us.
Sadly, they are no longer confined to boring their two friends (or any9ne willing to buy them a pint) in the corner of the saloon bar on a Wednesday afternonn. We now get to listen to them drone on and on, completely misinformed, on our media both broadcast and social.
One the few things I'd bring back from the past, is returning them to the saloon bar where they can be largely ignored.

I only wish that some callers had more time. Perhaps even a 10 minute timer counting down, so they knew how long they had to try and fight their corner. So many opinions, yet none based on fact as far as I could make out.
First rule of politics, when you have failed policies distract the citizens onto another subject to avoid being ripped apart and turfed out of office. The policy of shipping asylum seekers overseas is illegal, two wrongs dont make a right, genuine asylum seekers need to be trained and put into the workforce not placed on benefits programnes. Integrate them into the workforce allow them to contribute to society.

...but people have the right to vote for whoever they wish for at the time.
How embarrassing! This man has not got a clue.
