As someone with a lot of childhood trauma, what Rupert says here is true.
Analysing the pain/trauma won’t dissolve it. One has to step away from their mind/ego/intellect and just be, feel. Feel your humanness and your emotions. From here the body/mind will start to finally process the pain. One may realise the egoic self built around such experiences was false. This is where trauma can be a profound vehicle for awakening.

It's the story we tell ourselves about who we THINK we are. These are ideas based on our physical form: how we look, how well we perform according to some standard. Our culture will judge whether our behavior is "good" or "bad," and we do what we do in order to be accepted by others. Then, hopefully, a day comes when you realize it is just a story. For me, it's easy to see spiritual practice as a mental journey of discovery, but I've come to learn that our bodies, and the emotions they store, are an essential component of spiritualism. We don't want to feel emotional pain so we set our minds to try to "figure it out", but that resistance just delays the issue and causes lingering pain. The thing I find especially helpful is just accepting that something happened without judging/justifying/analyzing - just accepting the reality that something happened and letting the pain that comes with resistance to it swell up in my chest and just fully experience it. I then direct those physical feelings to my heart where I just sit with them until they slowly pass through me - I imagine them passing through my heart and out of my left shoulder blade where they are released forever.
Once I complete that process, I'm no longer triggered by it and I don't ruminate on it any longer. I see this as a mostly physical practice. Our bodies store resistance and we need to to get out of our heads and finally feel the emotional pain stored in our bodies. Out of our heads and into our bodies to fully experience all of the emotional pain that comes from resistance to the reality of an event. It's not an easy process at first, which is why we resist it so fully, but it is the key to putting the pain behind us forever.
For me, radically accepting reality in this way is the most powerful spiritual practice there is. It allows me to be present and more easily accept reality as it is without wanting/needing to change it. After some time this process hollows you out, freeing you from stored issues, allowing me to be present as the quiet observer.
My greatest wish is that everyone will find the peace and joy I've found through this practice.

Well said. I totally agree with that all our emotions being stored / manifesting in the body, and that we need get in touch with our bodies, in order to truly process and let go of all the emotional pain, wounds that we carry around in our subconsciousness. I believe mind body connection is crucial, in order to identify where exactly the emotions are located in the body.
Btw I think I experience something similar to you, when practicing letting go/ releasing emotions, pain, tension etc. Thanks to a lot of mindfulness / meditation practice I’m able to get into like a very warm and peaceful state of consciousness, where it’s like something opens up and the emotions can just wander through by themselves. I think when you’re doing it right, you’re not forcing anything, and the emotions sort of let go and release by themselves, while you just observe in a state of warmness, love and acceptance in the background. After the practice, you feel a sense of liberation, warmth and hollowness like you said yourself.

The key principle seems to be the loving open space of awareness. Being the open loving space of awareness first and then inviting the implicit felt senses into that open loving being. This is repeated many times throughout the answer and the questioner emphasised on “feeling” and “sensing” and “ investigating” instead of “loving”.
Psychological treatments of childhood attachment trauma employ similar principle - building and strengthening the provision of safety, security, soothing, comfort, encouragement, joy, play, delight, and unconditional support, before inviting deep seeded maladaptive felt senses to be reprocessed in an open space of loving awareness ❤

Rupert may have an answer to your question. What I am doing is moving my attention from the content of awareness to the allowing of awareness. It is a peaceful, allowing, unconditional love. The mind wants a “how”. Wants to figure it out. The excellent answer above refers to the allowing or being love. I feel it in the heart chakra area in the center of my chest.

I have great respect for Rupert and enjoy his teachings very much, however, in my experience approaching core wounds and traumas in such a non-dualistic way had only limited effect. 'Becoming aware of being aware' is essential to decouple oneself from thoughts and emotions and allows for deeper inner work and introspection - otherwise it can be too scary and intense - but to actually do the inner work I would suggest some type of somatic body work therapy. I had much success with Eugene Gendlin's Focusing to connect with core wounds and give them attention they need.

So these things are our own creations. No matter what experience we have, it is us that gives it a meaning in mind. We have to name a thing to bring it forth into existence. We create the thought. We then choose whether we like that thought or not. This is choosing whether or not to love our own creation. If we choose not to love it, and if we have not resolved it as yet, often we just sweep it under the carpet because it is too painful to experience any longer. Now, maybe compare this to your own child. Imagine how they would feel if you loved them not. Is this any different? Go to that place of love within yourself and draw that creation back to yourself. It is an expression of you. All anything ever wants is to be loved. Thank you Rupert and the Spirit within for being there for us all...

But if I feel anxiety it fells like there is only anxiety and just little space for a loving attitude. Maybe I get an idea if I imagine I am soil and the feelings are seeds that can fall on me an flourish. Or I am a mother and the feelings look like me as a child and I welcome them and hug them. But I think it is not meant by Rupert to imagine a picture like that.

In Internal Family Systems there is a process to 'unblend' from the emotions - so in general, when the deepest layers of our experience rise up they kind of 'take over' our awareness and that leads to the experience of there being 'just a little space' for a loving attitude. The feeling becomes central due to its intensity, and the open, loving space is experienced as being 'eclipsed' by the feelings. Learning how to remain as the spacious loving presence and from there meet and be with (without any agenda) the feelings, deeper content etc then the love and the 'unconscious material' can begin to be in connection with each other, and eventually over time the strong feelings can be resolved and 'healed' by that loving spacious presence.

Once you become aware of the loving open awareness that is consciousness, and you begin to benefit from it by experiencing greater awareness, more happiness and wonderful dreams, what could be better than using our ability to "visit / experience" consciousness as often as possible? Nothing in the finite world seems to be more relevant, more true and meaningful when compared to the experience of consciousness. Which then raises the question, what are we meant to do with our finite existence in a highly conflicted material world that is not in harmony with consciousness. Are we meant to spend our lives dancing between what seems like dual realities, or should we somehow bring the 2 realities closer together and thereby strive for a non dual existence in our lives, even though we must accept the conflict of our finite existence? How can we ever resolve 2 realities that seem real, into a non-dual realty, with a finite mind? Does anyone know?

As I am listening. It seems as though this consciousness, as I see, as I feel as the intuition flows. I see these energies, such as memory, and within that the frequencies of aura. Somehow the consciousness neural networks with these frequencies, and the frequency is the somehow Become muted out from the more active. I am conscious activities of the mind, subvert the intuitive attention of that, and until the consciousness gets the signs and the signals to somehow take a deeper look at these energies. And yes, it is true it is if you are a warm blanket. And you invite this Young child who is feeling unwell and you are in the position of holding space if you will. Or you are as the space. But somehow this vibratory frequency of trauma, and suffering, somehow needs to feel recognized and welcome through the frequencies of the intuition. And somehow, once these frequencies are welcomed and invited, it will be the marinating and digesting and discerning of offering freedom to the energies that somehow seem blocked. Something as your self loves yourself as yourself. And here, seemingly it’s a process of this consciousness. A cycle. A spiral.

    1. There is no "one" to invite these feelings. There is no "one" to let these feelings into an open space
    2. There is no "one" to make friends with feelings
    3. There is no such thing as "subconscious" - even the word "subconscious" is rising in the background of consciousness!!!
Feelings, thoughts and perceptions rise on their own accord from the SELF - that IMPERSONAL REALITY.

@@evelinel.9827 With all due respects, is it not true that people are coming to Rupert in search of spiritual truth? If so, Rupert should be providing answers in consonance with helping "one" (an individual) to cognize the ULTIMATE TRUTH of IMPERSONAL REALITY; but here, I see that answers by Rupert are only strengthening the idea of "individual" and "individuality". I do know that Rupert knows that very well but his answers here do not seem to conform to what he has presented beautifully elsewhere. Truth of Nonduality distinguishes itself from all branches of science/religion including modern psychology in showing an "individual", that he/she is not an "individual confined to a set of psychosomatic appartus" but is the IMPERSONAL, INFINITE, ETERNAL, ABSOLUTE REALITY OF EXISTENCE/CONSCIOUSNESS. I hope you see the spirit of what I am trying to convey.

Honestly wondering-- Rupert advises inviting difficult emotions out of the subconscious and into the loving space of awareness. That seems to suggest that there are things (subconscious emotions) that exist outside of "the conscious space of awareness" (his phrase, just after 8:30). Yes? Doesn't that contradict his basic premise that all we are is is awareness?

74744 To much big words for something soo simple. You bring them up by not trying to bring them up, as the young man himself says they come up in his dreams, so the reason he can't bring them up is he wants to control something which happens naturally and at it's own time. Never. Being to open loving space of awareness as the master is saying and when the come you befriend them from that loving empty space of awareness and hold their hand and walk with them instead of wishing to devow them and destroy them and get rid of them. You can't win the fight.❤🎉😊

How about just doing some trauma work & therapy mate? People tend to become to one sided in their approach…
There are some levels of unresolved emotional issues that regular spiritual practice just won’t get to the root cause of it.
That’s where the east can actually learn quite a lot from pioneers of the west, such as Gabor Mate, Peter Levine, Bessel van der Kolk etc.

Your explanation is a bit frustrating in that the questioner clearly does not understand, and instead of trying to explain your point in different terms, you say the exact same thing over and over again. They seem to be missing the bigger picture as you had put it, that they need to breathe and relax into a space of loving openness, which would create an opportunity for the subconscious mind to feel safe enough to bring to the surface some of this hidden material.
So maybe there is a step in this questioners process where they think they’re creating this open space, but maybe lack the awareness of a certain factor of whatever space they’re stepping into.. and thus might actually be in a space that isn’t open or loving enough.
Basically they likely need to try further to have that open space, and let go of the beginning layers of fear of what may come up, etc.

    BEAUTIFUL CREATURE” BY HAFIZ
    MARCH 9, 2017 2OR3LITTLEBIRDS 2 COMMENTS
There is a beautiful creature living in a hole you have dug, so at night I set fruit and grains and little pots of wine and milk beside your soft earthen mounds, and I often sing to you, but still, my dear, you do not come out. I have fallen in love with someone who is hiding inside of you. We should talk about this problem, otherwise I will never leave you alone! from Love Poems from God. Published by Penguin Compass.
