I have to say that I’m tired of the *aesthetic* vibe of influencing. I’m glad to see people develop their personal style. You get to see people’s creativity.
Exactly! It's like a copy and paste of beige/white/grey and the same ol' stuff.
It’s tough when so many home inspo spaces were pushing for this aesthetic, which nothing is inherently wrong about the style itself, but recognizing that it strips so many of us from the joy of expressing ourselves was huge for me. I started to feel like everything in my home and closet was just there because someone else told me it was beautiful, but I wasn’t considering what genuinely brings me joy or what represents how I actually feel on the inside (far from beige btw). Anyhow, thanks for being here and for the love as I try to find my way and hopefully encourage others to do the same, at their own pace 🌷.
I totally agree but what's funny is that the eclectic colorful style is now what everyone is changing up to....it will swing back to simple and neutral at some point! LOL
What must be noted is that influencer or not, people are just trying to be accepted and what is accepted is what's trending. The other thing is the aesthetic of the past few years have actually matched the mental wellness of more than most. Even a year or two before covid, society, unbeknownst to it, was in a "meh", "anxious", and unknown depressive state. Covid exacerbated this notion and so the neutral tones were/are a feeble attempt at trying to keep the mind and space "at least" at neutral...thus accepting that while maybe not at the lowest place in mental instability, society, individually and collectively, we're not ready for bright colors and saturation

Yes. I love home décor and watch videos for inspiration, however, things started to turn for me when one influencer suggested decorating with family photos was tacky and "too personal". That was the wake up call i needed to stop giving in to the pressure of a "perfect" home aesthetic. While i love a clean and organized looking home, that doesn't mean I can't also embrace a cozy, warm and lived-in vibe for my family's space.
Normally I dont care for Thrift Haul content but you ACTUALLY found gems that fit your beautiful personality . A lot of people don't know how to and bring home garbage. I loved the turtle kiss. The perfect "Welcome Home". Lol I can tell you are putting up that middle finger to what's trending and opening that door to your spirit and things that really matter. When you get back home after dealing with Babylon you really wanna be in a comfortable space to be able to leave it outside. Excited to see what u do next!

I just want to say I love to see the more mature you come out. As a person born in 1972 I can’t even imagine the pressure that your generation is going through with. Everybody is giving their opinion so strongly on what you choose to do. Continue doing what you like finding what moves you and what inspires you in learning how to block out the noise. You will always find inner peace within your home because those people don’t live there with you. Your peace is most important and I’m glad to see that you’re fighting to keep it. I’ve never been interested in buying new items personally. At first it was because I was living as cheaply as possible and then I learned more about the industry of consumables and kept my habits for new reasons. I always watched your content for your heart and spirit, not for the fancy brand new items you featured. It is so interesting and feels full circle to see you are now arriving to a relationship with consumption that is more similar to my own. I try not to cast judgment on anyone because life is hard and we are always doing our best. It still feels good to hear you now putting so much emphasis on second hand items. Enough items (especially clothes) are already in existence that we could be set as a species for years without producing anything new. Thank you for just being you and for sharing that self with the world. Sending joy and peace to anyone who reads this ❤✌️
Love that you're finding your style and embracing it. Social media is the worst at making people have certain levels of FOMO when it comes to consumer goods and such. I think the idea of keeping up with what's hot and trendy sets us up for failure financially as well as environmentally, because we often end up spending more than we have and wasting more than we should.
Final note, do your thing with your incense! I make my own soy wax candles, and I also enjoy burning incense from to time. I use incense sometimes for the fragrance and sometimes as a cleansing in the same way I'd burn my sage the way my mom and other female elders in my family taught me.

Ugh I love a thrift haul. Ive never been a home decor influencer BUT I have fallen prey to the minimalist/Kinfolk-is-the-only-way Instagram aesthetic when in reality, I’ve always been drawn to images of dare I say “messier”, very lived in and colorful spaces.

I love the move of getting things secondhand. I am obsessed with Facebook marketplace and *most* of my living room is from Facebook marketplace. I think it makes for such interesting spaces and you can find such amazing things on there! I love that more people are getting into second hand, thrift shopping, fb marketplace shopping + estate sale buying because it’s just hard to find some of that character and style in new things being produced now. At least in my opinion

3:02 Yes! I feel like we are slowly starting to see a shift in consumer minds set (at least in some corners of the internet). I can’t yet kick my consumption habit but I’ve been trying to only shop second hand, sustainable, or small businesses! Of course the best thing would be to buy nothing at all, but I think this is a good start :)

Love to see this journey =) It's common for people to feel like the first step is getting rid of everything they have and replacing it all with things that fit their new standards, but as you say, only buying what you need is the goal!
Truly. That is the ultimate goal. Being that replacing everything is not practical and doesn’t work for my budget, it’s been fun spending time getting creative with what I already have that I don’t mind keeping/don’t hate entirely 🙃.

i think a big part of living a slow life is understanding how much consumerism pushes us to feel like we need more. im loving the trend of second-hand thrifting and finding eclectic pieces but at some point we will always come back to a place of feeling like our space is too cluttered due to over buying and spending. You see megan batoon go through this cycle as well. I struggle with it, i think to a degree everyone influenced by the aesthetic to chase an ideal life do. i wonder how others feel about it. love all the pieces you sourced, i cant wait to see how you style them!
