Kevin Durant: A Deal With The Devil

  • Kevin Durant has lost yet another playoff series in the first round. This time, the Phoenix Suns super team of KD, Devin Booker & Bradley Beal were swept by Anthony Edwards and the Minnesota Timberwolves. Once again, Durant falls short of winning a championship without Steph Curry, who has already won after KD left Golden State to form his own super team in Brooklyn.
KD's decision in 2016 is coming back to haunt him, as his legacy is being questioned time after time over the last couple of years since. He will regret making that move that drastically altered NBA history forever.

KD just has an incredibly fragile ego and should just stay off of social media, as well as just stop responding to the media entirely. Someone with insecurities as big has his would've been WAY better off staying in OKC with a brother in Westbrook and core team he put his first 8 seasons of his career into than leaving to go make a super team he HIMSELF knew he'd see no end to the criticism of. At this point, I could care less whether or not he's in the GOAT conversation. OKC with him, Westbrook and the rest of them was a DAMN FUN team to watch. Even if they never won a championship, you can NEVER take away what a team like that gives to the game of basketball. An absolute DOG of a PG in Westbrook, scoring machine in KD, a workhorse like Serge Ibaka, nose to the grindstone center in Kendrick Perkins, etc., as well as the brotherhood they forged through those first 8 season and he threw all of that in the garbage for a couple of rings. That's honestly what upsets me the most, personally. If the titles and finals MVPs and whatnot weren't enough for him than nothing will be outside of the bridges that HE burned to get there. He has no one to blame but himself.

That line of "I don't want to be second" is literally the embodiment of Kevin Durant's mentality. He is the No. 2 who wants to be No. 1 and thinks he needs a No. 3 and a No. 4 to overcome whoever is No. 1 whether that be Lebron James or Steph Curry. On the Thunder, he didn't think Serge Ibaka was good enough. On the Warriors, he didn't realize Steph wasn't his sidekick unlike Russell Westbrook. On Brooklyn, he had an opportunity but failed to lead as the No. 1 option. On the Suns, he again had an opportunity but failed to lead as the No. 1 option.
LeBron is what Kevin Durant wanted to be. The guy who was No. 1 and who got there with his two sidekicks.

@@Big_talks. I don't get what your point is. My argument is that KD is not the leader, not the No. 1 option, and not the GOAT he thinks he deserves to be and has never risen to that occasion when given that opportunity.
To give you an example, Michael Jordan had Dennis Rodman, who is like Kyrie if he was 10 times as rambunctious and way more into partying. Did Jordan throw his hands up and just go "Well, he ain't my issue"? No, he made Rodman respect him and listen to him and shape up when the Bulls needed Rodman to lock in. Jordan rose to the occasion as a leader. Kobe rose to the occasion as a leader. Isiah Thomas, Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, you name the all-time great and they made that mental switch when they had to.
KD ain't that type of player. People are questioning Steph's leadership right now as well because of the Draymong drama. This isn't a fault of Steph or KD, but it isn't necessarily a strength of theirs either.

I see it like this. When KD left OKC for the Warriors, he did that to get as many championships as quickly as possible and as guaranteed as possible. You know what people call that? Ring chasing. He started Ring chasing in his prime, because he was deathly afraid of never winning one and being treated like all the greats that never won a ring. When he left the Warriors he tried to do the same In Brooklyn. As quickly and as guaranteed as possible win as many championships. Ringchasing again. Same with the Suns. KD started Ring chasing in his fucking prime and doesnt undestand how fucking sad that is. All the members of the modern free agent super teams have kinda hurt their legacy in some way or other. Wade was on a trajectory to being up there comparable to Kobe but teaming up with Bron swiftly put an end to that. You rarely even hear people talking about Wade as one of the all time players at all. Bosh went from a top 10 in mvp voting franchise guy to a spot up shooter, one of the weakest resumes for hall of famer ever. Even Lebron despite getting his two championships his legacy would have absolutely been discredited if it wasn't for the Cleveland championship. The choke job against Dallas will forever be cited against him, and one of the two Miami championships required a pretty miraculous sequence of events in the last second ending in the iconic Ray Allen shot to save the entire stint from being a complete disaster. Steph-Klay-Draymond saved their legacy by winning the championships before and after KD, but KD will forever be questioned unless he leads a team to another championship but that seems incredibly unlikely at this stage. If he had stayed at OKC even without a ring I think people would rank his career higher than they do now.

I’d say is that what can be true for him in 2016 doesn’t have to be true for him in 2024. I think that the achilles injury is overlooked on how it may have effected him and how he views his legacy. That’s probably the first time he saw his basketball mortality. I think when something like that happens to an athlete at that level you can’t help but ask yourself new questions

I don't know if I'm the only one here, but Kevin Durant made me stop watching basketball in 2017. I had the best basketball year of my life in 2016 having been lucky enough to see the Cavs come back from a 3-1 deficit against the unbeatable Warriors, and at the end of the season learning that KD was going to join them after losing to them and choked against them and taking a 3-1 comeback literally sickened me. I reluctantly watched the 2017 finals, and I stopped watching basketball after this. I legit almost threw up watching him get the Larry O'brien trophy.
I was so happy to see Draymond Green ruin their chemistry and treat him the way he should be treated; A huge talent but a lousy human being who destroyed his career by joining a hyper-cheated team that didn't need him to reach the top. KD is and always will be a snake to me. Now I need to listen to some of Lil B's famous music about him.

KD has an ego problem, he’s always wanted to be the best guy in the room, the coolest guy around, he’s accomplished everything you could possibly imagine as a basketball player but it’s just not enough for him cuz he’s not #1, whether that’s in the goat debate, team hierarchy, or even when he got drafted he never has and maybe never will be #1 and from a competitive perspective I can respect him wanting to be the best but he needs to learn to accept who he is, he may not be #1 but he’s accomplished amazing things, he’s made it to the league and he’s one of the best players in the league, he has rings, he has an mvp, he has wealth beyond his wildest dreams but that’s not enough for him and it makes him miserable

I think he and Kyrie could have been rather successful in Brooklyn, especially af they added a Jrue Holiday and say a Deadndre Ayton... And filled out with defensive guys like Royce Oneal and Bruce Brown and some shooters like Grayson Allen. Many of these older stars, for some reason, lack patience building a team.
