The ROK military uses K2 rifle-specific ammunition called "K100[PMC X-TAC M855(K100) 62gr. FMJ 5.56mm]" (this type of ammunition was developed in the 2010s to noticeably increase the K2's accuracy). I served from 2019 to 2021, and I thought it was a really good gun, but after watching this video, I found out that it was not the case when the Korean military used other bullets in the past. By 250m, the ballistic characteristics are not significantly different, but above that, the bullet overturns and has a considerable effect on the accuracy of the shot. He seems to be a fairly skilled shooter as he shoots up to 200 yards with ease. There is no need to be confused, it can be seen as a bullet problem.
My service rifle back in mid 90's. I bought a DR200 and should not have sold it. Too bad in my state, they are prohibited by the name, K1/2, AR100, Max 1/2. I can still get another DR200. Your video makes me want to search for another DR200. I hope someone will import again. That K2C1 certainly looks good. Great video as usual and even better shooting. Thanks!
Yes and no. Like V evergarden stated, rifleswere being imported in 90's. When assault weapon ban happened, they were banned by the name. No one really tried to import them ever since. It could still be imported if 922R requirements were met. No one is trying to invest $$ since importers feel that the return of investment is low. Another word, the market is not there.
These rifles are very dependable but the only reason I sold mine was because of the availability of parts. And it was 1x12 twist which limited me to 55gr bullets. Great shooting in those windy conditions.

I really like the K2. I feel if it became popular in the US and was updated over time like the AR was, it would be on par with the AR. Makes sense because it is similar to the AR-18 in design, metal stamped body excluded. I never considered it as a viable long range option though. Years ago when I fired one, I got about a 2.5MOA, which is not bad for such a rifle, but clearly never going to be a good DMR.
Another awesome video. I would like to see a table top review at the end where you give us your opinion on how the string of fire went, what went right, and what went wrong. You've shown that you are a good shot, I would like to hear what you feel are the biggest challenges between all these different rifles. Keep it up!!!!
Patrick Johnson thank you! We’ve been taking notes on these. We may consider even live events to answer these questions as we know it’s near impossible to what everyone is trying to find out. Josh and I have also been talking about how we can properly do “PA” videos on PCC’s and pistols, so that is also in development.
When I was in the service, our battalion had average hit rate of more than 75 percent. The combat squadron averaged more than 80 percent. If your average hit rate is over 80 percent, you need to hit at least two out of three 250 meters. And 250 meters is the easiest In the '90s, all reconnaissance battalions in ROK army all remember that much firing training was done.
I initially thought that the K2 assault rifle was developed from the Fn cal , Fn Fnc family of assault rifles, but the reality is that it is based on the AR-18
Up-Down selector in rear sight 1.2 : 0m-220m, 3 : 221m-320m, 4 : 321m-420m, 5 : more than 421m what I think. And military K2 is 2.5, 4, 5, 6 on Up-down selector in rear sight.
I'd love to find a range that was close to me to see how well my ar would preform at 500. I would have high expectations for it but would hope I could perform as well as I know the rifle can.
Looks like the k2 you used has not the same barrel twist compared with ROK mili-spec k2. Import version k2 got some adjustments that should considered as a undergrade. Even so, this video give us correct result. Based on my service experience, so many trainee(even not private yet) who has no shooting skills at all used to make impact shot easily without optical sight in 250m(about 280 yard). Aside accuracy, the thing I like the most was foldable stock. Always comes in handy. K2 is not so-called masterpiece, but well-made it is at least. Sorry for my english.
I agree with everything that you have said. I think this is a very good assault rifle and performs it's job for how it was designed. The 500yard course is excessive for this caliber, most 5.56 engagements are expected to be 350m and within.
I remember ordering one of these out of some gun rag for $110 and I thought that was expensive. I wish I never sold it and not sure why I did as I enjoyed it. I think my Mosin cost me $25
really nice video, youre obviously a good shooter henry, keep up the good work, id love to see more videos with iron sights too, not a lot of people appreciates them anymore
I've always gotten a kick out of the K2. The range time here was a bit of a disappointment. Knowing how good of a shot you are, Capt all I could use this rifle for is 300m. Still, this is perhaps all it was intended for. I would not turn my nose up at it and I would find a place to keep it in my collection.
If I have that rifle, I'll modify to use the M16A2 barrel to use the M855, with NATO rail (4649), and a short stock if my arms can't reach the handguard
We hear from a lot of Korean soldiers that they don't usually shoot the K2 past 300m. If we have a chance, maybe we'll take it back out with an optic. I don't think we were doing the rifle justice.
This is an excellent rifle, I've fired it out to 600. #1. the rifle has to be ZERO'd to the corresponding meter mark on the rear sight. #2. You have to use 5.56 ammunition. NOT 223 power 55 grain like in this video. Fiocchi .223 is very anemic ammo and around 500 fps less than full power M193. Also the K2s with 1-12 inch barrels don't have rear sights adjustable out to 600 meters. Only the 1-7 twist rifles do so you want to make sure you have one of those rifles!
I know why this experiment showed problems with long-range accuracy.K-2 Rifle is optimized for SS109 ammunition (Korean name K-100).For M193, the Rifling Ratio is optimized to 1:12, but SS109 is optimized for 1: 7.Generally, this difference makes a big difference in long-range accuracy. If possible, will you be able to experiment with SS109 Ammunition? I think this problem happens same at M-16. kor sub:저는 이 실험에서 장거리 명중률에 문제를 보인 이유를 알것 같습니다.K-2 소총은 SS109 탄 (한국 이름 K-100)에 최적화 되어있습니다.M193의 경우 강선회전률(Rifling Ratio)이 1:12에 최적화 되어있으나, SS109는 1:7에 최적화 되어있습니다.
In our experience 55 vs 62 grn projectiles have very little performance difference at range. We would have liked to test this with 77grn projectiles to improve our chances at longer ranges, but the barrel is a 1:12 and simply cannot stabilize the longer 77grn projectile.
When u have a lot of conscripted units and most of them leaving the camp in 2 years U don't need a service rifle to be that accurate Their service might already ended before they practice to shoot that far
To be candid, I think for a less than 50 cent modification to dramatically change the end results would be more of a scrupulous and sincere 9 review. Just my 2 cents to give a matter-of-fact reply. Therefore your end results are a bit inconclusive since we are seeing the true accuracy potential of THIS rifle and all...
Watching this and finding out that number of people with thumbs down are always roughly the same.. wondering if those people other shooting channels who lost us as a viewers due to their extremely long videos.
That's a significant amount of difference and we typically do not see that type of a difference between 223 and 556. We will, however re-shoot this one because we've recently gotten access to a K2 with the true Korean 1:7 twist military barrel AND the updated military sights.
@@9HoleReviews that's great to hear. I have the DR200 post ban version of the K2 w/thumbhole stock and fake flash hider. The manual says the sights are set for a 250m zero (0.9cm low at 25m) with the selector at 2.5. It also says with the selector at '4' it covers 250-450m
K2 was designed by military for military of military in mind. K2 is gas operated but also adjustable defending range. 1 rifle for short, medium, long range , bc s korea military couldn’t afford expensive sniper rifle. Have you all chrono'd that fiocci .223 out of the daewoo? In your accuracy review you seemed to do better with the 5.56 at 350ish yards than you did with the .223 at similar and longer ranges. I'd be interested to see how this rifle does with mil-spec m193.
Modern combat for the west has been dominated by optics, but there are many less-than-civilized parts of the world where a majority of the firearms used only have iron sights on them. In fact, when I was deployed to AFG in 2012, my unit ran out of M4’s, M9’s, and M16A4’s (they pulled me into a different unit 3-4 weeks before we stepped off). My jolly self deployed to an active war zone with an M16A2 from 1987, and I had to look around for an M4 to replace it in country. For the first months, my only sighting system were those classic A2 iron sights. Thanks Uncle Sam.
DCM88 if the optics are cheap as hell in the quality, but thats why you usually get something like an ACOG or ELCAN if youre going into such situations of abuse... Those examole of optics are things that are stupid in their durability. As for M16's with heavy barrels as possible use in Afghanistan we run into the problem 5.56 being very limited once you start going beyond that rounds threshold; a .308 rifle may better suited since it's a round designed to touch those distances pretty well. There really isn't one rifle to rule all aspect of combat environments, unless we do what the Masada/ACR was intended to do with caliber swapping...
@DCM88 even now in 2018 mid tier red dots and prisms can take some serious drops and retain zero. Akou drug a primary arms MD ADS red dot behind a truck and it retained zero which is incredible. They also dropped the PA 4x prism repeatedly on concrete while mounted and again it retained zero. 10 years ago you would have been right except for acogs, elcans, and perhaps eotech and aim points but not today.
Now, I don't know why but the firing sound seems muffled. It definitely is different from what I heard when I was doing my service. Maybe it's because of different ammunitions?
When South Koreans say the rifle doesn't hit very well at over 250, understand that marksmanship in South Korea as a civilian is non existant. Like close to zero. We aren't allowed gun ownership, you probably know. Marksmanship training in the army is also severly limited due to safety concerns. Why: We are mostly conscripts so until the 2000s we were up there with the Russian Army in the hazing department thanks to our "traditional culture" of "respecting the elders and despising the young", plus remnants of what series of military junta through the 1960s and 1980s left, which themselves were mixture of Imperial Japanese hazing culture and American army training doctrine bastardized to fit our needs to grow quicker. Everything is 빨리빨리. If you don't do 빨리빨리, expect your seniors to slap you across the face and punch you in the stomach after headcount this evening. That kind of stress encourages some soldiers to one day decide to shoot up his own barracks or take their own lives. So many unexplained deaths in our military are still left unsolved because the army covers things up all the time. Anyway, to stop conscripts from going crazy, we have brass collectors fixed to the ejection port so we can count the number of casings, to make sure a soldier can't smuggle unspent rounds, metal "gates" which we fix our rifle barrels so nobody can stand up and turn his weapon around. We don't use the gate thing when we practice shooting positions like prone-kneeling-sitting pos but practicality suffered very much and so did the individual marksmanship skills. Oh and I almost forgot. We are given PRIs (Preliminary Rifle Instructions) before shooting a lot of the time. It's basically assuming different positions for shooting when given range calls but with an unloaded and empty rifle, next to the range, on the dirt, being bullied by our drill sergeants or XOs or COs, until they are satisfied. We had this ridiculous pre firing position for PRIs that looks like we are at the start line of 100m dash but while we are holding the rifle. The idea was that from that position we can quickly transition to: dashing towards the enemy, assuming prone-kneeling-sitting position, while exposing less to our enemy because we are hunched towards them. It only works in a book and the person who invented this posture never experienced actual combat most likely. So, the soldiers are told to shoot at the targets after going through this torture of a training. In some way, this could count as a stress shooting thing but the soldiers are already fatigued, so accuracy could suffer. I served in mid 2010s and we were still doing this crazy impractical training. So actual practical shooting under stress kind of thing is unimaginable in this atmosphere, not counting the very specialized elite units like JSA Guards, Special Warfare Command, Special Assault, etc. Testament to this: I've seen a captain who was ex-Special Warfare Command officer, shoot his K1A submachine gun with that short barrel at popup targets from 50 to 250 meters and never miss a shot. So the rifles are fine mechanically at least from what i observed, but the conscripted soldiers are not expected to shoot over 250 meters at best, which is further sabotaged by oppressive culture within the military, lack of proper practical shooting regimen, and of course we study like mothertruckers from early age, so the eyesights of modern South Korean soldiers are pretty awful. More than half of them seem to wear glasses these days.
I am shocked at how bad that was. I know you can shoot. I don't know that rifle but I would have thought it was well made. Is 55 grain ammo the right choice for this rifle? Maybe get a bit more trigger time with it and have another go?
Unfortunately, with the barrel twist, we have to go with the lighter ammo. Makes it considerably more difficult than shooting 77grns. This is approximately indicative of what most Korean soldiers we've spoke to report on the rifle as well.
If you top it up with a high magnification scope(over 16X, up to you shooting skills), K2 is the rifle that you can achieve 0.7 MOA at 100 yd with O.K 55gr factory ammo and 0.5 MOA with custom load which is similar to M855. I am not kidding. My friend really tested out the gun and got these results with his brand new K2 he recently found.(lucky bastard!!) So Koreans did not even realize that they happened to produce one of the finest 5.56mm SPR platforms. Yes, it can be a shockingly accurate gun. Well, back then the concept of SPR did not even exist in US though... It was also my service rifle that made me become a marksman right away. It was a brand new K2 right out of the box. I was just O.K shooter with M16a1 which I used prior to K2. My M16a1 was also close to a brand new one. I think K2's ring type iron sight suited me better than the M16's open type iron sight. Also by aligning two circles evenly helped me a lot on quicker target acquisition than M16.

Development of the next generation '6.8mm Korean rifle' exceeding the US military M16 The development of the next-generation 6.8mm Korean rifle will be promoted, surpassing the 5.56mm K-2 rifle developed in Korea based on the M16 rifle of the US military. Then move to 500 y prone only. No scopes all iron sight aiming.
That was over 30 some years ago.
You should be getting one of the 1:7 twist barrels that i made pretty soon.
Josh and I have also been talking about how we can properly do “PA” videos on PCC’s and pistols, so that is also in development.
you guys shoot really well. with iron sights out to 500 yd? my goodness.
When I was in the service, our battalion had average hit rate of more than 75 percent.
The combat squadron averaged more than 80 percent. If your average hit rate is over 80 percent, you need to hit at least two out of three 250 meters.
And 250 meters is the easiest
In the '90s, all reconnaissance battalions in ROK army all remember that much firing training was done.
I initially thought that the K2 assault rifle was developed from the Fn cal , Fn Fnc family of assault rifles, but the reality is that it is based on the AR-18
Man he is a good shot,, I am always impressed
I remembered we trained with this gun 250m=273yd. 450yd??? We've never thought that rifle can even touch that far!
great video. Thanks! brings back my army life memory back in 2015.
Up-Down selector in rear sight 1.2 : 0m-220m, 3 : 221m-320m, 4 : 321m-420m, 5 : more than 421m what I think. And military K2 is 2.5, 4, 5, 6 on Up-down selector in rear sight.
ROKA Black Berets so perhaps that means the rear sights are in yards?
Yeah, must be select according to the range.
For K2 You can adjust gas pressure for long range target.
In South Korea, the army fires 250m. You're really good at shooting
I'd love to find a range that was close to me to see how well my ar would preform at 500. I would have high expectations for it but would hope I could perform as well as I know the rifle can.
Awesome rifle, great video!
K2 is designed for mountainous terrain of Korea. Mountains in Korea are not high. So they don't need high hit rate but good in 100 to 200 meters.
@@9HoleReviews u have good mind. thank you for review
한국말로도점여!
Rewatching this and yes, reshoot. Considering the K1A1 made it to 500 yards.
I remember ordering one of these out of some gun rag for $110 and I thought that was expensive. I wish I never sold it and not sure why I did as I enjoyed it. I think my Mosin cost me $25
That IMI 556 you shot in the last video is some great ammo.
really nice video, youre obviously a good shooter henry, keep up the good work, id love to see more videos with iron sights too, not a lot of people appreciates them anymore
Thanks! and your'e in luck, we have an M1 Garand video this week.
I have wanted a Daewoo rifle since we got a kickass Daewoo TV and i saw they had a K2 at the gun shop when I was a kid. Lol
I never shot K2 beyond 250m, so I think you are awsome.
Excellent as always
Carry on
thanks for the reviewing Korean army rifle.
i waiting 2 years for your new reault from k-2 with replaced barrel in 1:7.3 twist.
Daewoo K2, you are a no-go at this station
I think He did well with the weather conditions. Over 300m is not easy to get the target without a scope.
Excellent video as usual.
Don't get to see this rifle all that often in general, great stuff
I know why this experiment showed problems with long-range accuracy.K-2 Rifle is optimized for SS109 ammunition (Korean name K-100).For M193, the Rifling Ratio is optimized to 1:12, but SS109 is optimized for 1: 7.Generally, this difference makes a big difference in long-range accuracy. If possible, will you be able to experiment with SS109 Ammunition? I think this problem happens same at M-16.
In our experience 55 vs 62 grn projectiles have very little performance difference at range. We would have liked to test this with 77grn projectiles to improve our chances at longer ranges, but the barrel is a 1:12 and simply cannot stabilize the longer 77grn projectile.
When u have a lot of conscripted units and most of them leaving the camp in 2 years
U don't need a service rifle to be that accurate
Their service might already ended before they practice to shoot that far
Here's a PRO tip file down the front sight post to make the post slimmer. Next, make a part 2 vid.
Unfortunately this is a loaner rifle, so that would be very inappropriate for the sake of good care taking!
We would consider re-doing this if we had a chance to put a scope on it. I think that would be interesting.
Wow, a master sniper indeed.
Interesting that the sights are messed up from the factory. This rifle is prohibited in Canada but if it wasn't I would pay a premium to have one!
I saw k2 and clicked immediately.. was really disappointed that it wasnt a spice video
I know, we actually have access to another K2 with a true 1/7 military barrel that we plan on shooting again
Watching this and finding out that number of people with thumbs down are always roughly the same.. wondering if those people other shooting channels who lost us as a viewers due to their extremely long videos.
An Armalite basd rifle using AK's long stroke system bolt. AR+AK great gun
just rewatched and noticed that the ammo was .233 not 5.56 NATO. That would explain the sights being off at distance
@@9HoleReviews did you guys ever get access to that 1:7 twist K2 w/updated sights?
Has any rifle cleared the service rifle with 0 misses?
K2 was designed by military for military of military in mind.
K2 is gas operated but also adjustable defending range.
1 rifle for short, medium, long range , bc s korea military couldn’t afford expensive sniper rifle.
Once u understand k2 concept design by poor military brasses and leaders … it will shine ✨
well for me 100 m target was the most difficult one. 200 m and 250 m were so easy to hit.
The K2 is based on the FN rifle family, such as the Fn fal Fn fnc , right ?
no, the FNC uses a 2-lug rotating bolt like an AK. The K2 uses an AR15 type bolt.
I still wish these rifles were available in the US!
They are you just have to pay collector prices! 🤑
@@69deputy Bought mine new in the 90s. Can't believe the current prices.
Great rifle but definitely like your 556 AK better. Keep them coming
Madbagger me too!
Have you all chrono'd that fiocci .223 out of the daewoo? In your accuracy review you seemed to do better with the 5.56 at 350ish yards than you did with the .223 at similar and longer ranges. I'd be interested to see how this rifle does with mil-spec m193.
300+ yr with iron sight, its very very hard I can't hit 200yr without a scope or magnifier
Kim jung-un:" maintain 400 meters position"🤣
😂 you are a tactician sir 😂
Just shows me ironsights should be backup and optics is way to go. Lol
With good skill, of course. ;) Henry is a damn good shooter. \m/
@@backyardboosters9128 I hated aimpoints in the army they lose zero way to easy acog or irons are the way to go.
You guys should do a an accuracy test of a standard gi style ar (20 inch)
L1NG4N just filmed it recently. Still needs to be edited. It’s spanked the M4 carbine.
Now, I don't know why but the firing sound seems muffled. It definitely is different from what I heard when I was doing my service. Maybe it's because of different ammunitions?
Probably just the microphone and how it's picking up the top end decibels of the shot.
Excelent Video. Cant wait for the K31
us too! we are waiting for a new sight to come in from die Schweiz thought!
The k2 really is the best if both the ak and the ar.

The sights are zeroed for 1/7 but the barrel is 1/12, I think thats the issue.

Do it for korean k2c rifle series

Have you tried NATO 5.56?
I am shocked at how bad that was. I know you can shoot. I don't know that rifle but I would have thought it was well made. Is 55 grain ammo the right choice for this rifle? Maybe get a bit more trigger time with it and have another go?
Unfortunately, with the barrel twist, we have to go with the lighter ammo. Makes it considerably more difficult than shooting 77grns. This is approximately indicative of what most Korean soldiers we've spoke to report on the rifle as well.

Have you considered using something jazzy for your music? Seems like it would be more fitting for these videos
ineffective at 500 ?
It's OK, because North Korea and South Korea are very close 👍

Development of the next generation '6.8mm Korean rifle' exceeding the US military M16
The development of the next-generation 6.8mm Korean rifle will be promoted, surpassing the 5.56mm K-2 rifle developed in Korea based on the M16 rifle of the US military.
S&T Motive, the nation's largest small-caliber firearm manufacturer, which manufactures K-1 submachine guns and K-2 rifles, announced on Tuesday that it had a "kick-off" meeting with Poongsan, the nation's largest ammunition maker, for the development of the next generation 6.8mm Korean rifle.
