Jake said in one of his videos he wanted to leave the Hill better than it was before he moves. He’s trying to help get things in order. I think that’s great of Jake. I see him coming back to the Hill to help if he’s needed. We’ve certainly not seen the last of Jake in his old home place ❤

Good Morning, Pawpaw❗I just wanted to give you a some tips about knee surgery. I had a right total knee replacement myself in 2014 and will be having my left knee replaced within the next two years. I have also worked on a Skilled Nursing Unit for over 10 years. FIRST OFF...your participation in your post op physical therapy is of utmost importance. Yes. It is a PAINFUL surgery but it is a pain you can work through. The end result is well worth it. Follow your therapists instructions. SECOND.....take you pain medicine on a set schedule for at least the first week...possible two weeks. The goal that first week is to stay ahead of the pain. If you "tough it out" and don't keep the pain to a manageable level you will slow your recovery and hamper your ability to work with the therapists. Also adapt that schedule so that you take pain meds 30-45 minutes before your therapy. After two weeks start alternating your prescribed pain medicine with Extra Strength Tylenol. This gradually decreases the use of the heavy pain meds. THIRD....Be sure you take a stool softener the entire time you are on the prescription pain med & drink plenty of water. Between the general anesthesia, your decreased activity level & the medications they give you before, during & after surgery you will become constipated...which is miserable. Ask for a stool softener when you are hospitalized if it's not already ordered. It is a frequent complication of almost any surgery and avoidable most of the time. Not to mention...you most probably won't be discharged until after your bowels have moved. FOUR....ICE IS YOUR FRIEND❗When your in the hospital they will put a PolarCare unit on you. They may call it a CryoCuff or something else but what it is is a small gallon size cooler with a small pump built in that circulates ice water thru tubes to a cooling pad that wraps around your knee. This reduces the swelling from the initial trauma of the surgery itself as well as decreasing the swelling & pain from the healing process. Be sure you take this home with you when you are discharged. Your insurance will have been billed for it and it will be thrown away if you leave it behind. I always used mine after my therapy sessions and between pain meds. Be sure you lay a hand towel or old t-shirt between your skin & the cooling pad. FIVE....When you are in the recovery room immediately after surgery they will place the CryoCuff (or PolarCare) unit on your knee as well as place your leg in a Continuous Passive Motion (or CPM) machine. This device keeps your knee from stiffening up by slowly & continuously bending your knee & then straightening your leg. The more time you spend on this CPM machine the faster your recovery will be. My surgeon sent one home with me for the first 3-4 weeks. I slept with mine going at night. FIVE....Being as you are a MAN of a certain Age this might be the hardest of all....Alow your family to help you during your recovery. Not to baby you but to help you from over-exerting yourself and possibly damaging your new knee or the ligaments, tendons or muscles involved. The last thing you want is to fall and break another body part. You are lucky enough to be surrounded by a large, loving family...allow them to show their Love by helping you through your recovery. SIX....(and I'll stop after this) is Vitamin E oil. You can buy a bottle at Wal-Mart or Dollar General. After the staples are removed from your incision grub that Vitamin E oil into and around the incision. It will keep the incision soft & malleable while it's healing and help keep deltoid scar tissue from forming causing puckers from forming in the scar as it heals. I used the Vit E oil for about a year after surgery and today the scar is barely noticeable. As often as you wear shorts you will want to keep your scarring to a minimum so your legs will still look as sexy as ever. I'm sorry to run on so long but aftercare is SO VERY IMPORTANT and can make a world of difference in your recovery. Knee replacement surgery is daunting but having it done will greatly improve the quality of your life. Also, if they BOTH need to be replaced my advice would be to have them both done at the same time. Then it's One & Done (okay... make that Two & Done) and that second surgery isn't looming ahead in your future. I am not writing all this to be bossy or a know-it-all. It is the same advice I'd give to my own father if he still lived. Your not my father but I (and several thousand others) DO CARE about you deeply, Gene and want you to be around to tell us storys for as long as possible. Thank You for sharing your life & family with ALL of us. Every Day your videos reach into the solitude of my life and reassures me that GOOD people are still around. ❤❤❤
Norma here. All excellent advice. I think the hardest part for Paw Paw will be allowing others to tend to his babies even though everyone on that hill is more than capable. He’ll be more concerned about those animals than himself. He absolutely loves just visiting with them and taking his little boys on rides. I hope he decides to put himself first and comes to realize that a few weeks of therapy and recovery will go by quickly enough and he’ll feel so much better in the long run.
Lex is doing so good with his football. He’s a quick learner. Those joint replacements nowadays are so amazing, two people I know, this summer had their knees done and they were back up and doing their things within two weeks. One of them was my water aerobics teacher, she was teaching water aerobics, outside of the water in 10 days. She could not drive. I was driving her. It’s amazing what they can do. Although she did complain about the pain because they would not give her any pain medicine.🤷♀️ that’s a big deal here in California. Nobody gets pain medicine anymore. I think that’s so cruel.

Hello Pawpaw 👋🏾 😊. If you or Gigi put a small dab of mentholatum or vicks vapor rub just above or around Verdes incision, she should leave it alone. Most dogs don't like the smell & won't lick the area so it can heal. Jake's a great young man, he's doing alot of extra repairs & tidying up lately (probably in preparation for when they move).

My MIL had both of her knees done within 6 weeks. She was 76 and did wonderful. She lost some weight and her legs were straight again. You can do this with God’s help. Praying for you two.

Put a male diaper on Verdie to cover her incision and keep her from licking it. They also have cones that are actually soft lightweight pillow that are better than the irritating plastic cone.

❤❤ pawpaw I know, I don't send you a lot of things or tell you a lot of things on people tell you, but let me tell you something I was a CNA for 18 years and the more you put off on any kind of surgery, it's where sure, it's gonna be on you y'all are getting older now and the more you wait. The longer it's gonna take for you to heal. Yes, you're gonna have to have therapy afterwards. You will have to take it One Day at a Time. With that, don't get discouraged and just get it done because if you don't, you're not gonna have a normal life like you want so just keep that in mind? I just wanted to tell you that so you and your wife would be Understand with that. Yes, i've had hip surgery twice, so I know how things are, just take it one day at a time and god is going to help both of us❤❤

Yes, we finally got our power on yesterday, 9/30 @4.20. But we were ready to in set for the long haul. When Matthew came through in 16/17, our power was out for 7 days. We have our blackstone grill, charcoal grill, and a Coleman 2 burner gas grill. I had bought tons of the gas for the grill and stove at the beginning of September. A very kind gentleman from shellman Bluff loaned us a generator. So we kept our refrigerator and freezer going. Didn't lose any food. Our internet was spotty revised it when we could. I am very grateful that it wasn't any worse. We had a tree come down across our road that took our power lines out. My son went and cut up us a path to get in and out. We live on a road with one way in and out. I don't want to sound like I am complaining. I am so not that I am just very THANKFUL for everything ❤❤❤❤

Maybe you get less of them than the others, but you never really let them get to you. I think it’s because you have the ability to laugh at yourself. When my Flash was neutered, he hated that cone so much that he broke it right off. lol Poor Verdi. It takes a little longer for the females to recuperate after spaying. Mornin PawPaw. Please think of it this way about your knees. Anything you do besides knee replacement is just a Prolonging the inevitable if they are bone on bone. A few weeks of pain and therapy is better than not getting it done and being in pain every day for the rest of your life because it will only get worse as the muscles and ligaments change and deteriorate over time. Good luck at the doctors.

As often as you wear shorts you will want to keep your scarring to a minimum so your legs will still look as sexy as ever.
I'm sorry to run on so long but aftercare is SO VERY IMPORTANT and can make a world of difference in your recovery. Knee replacement surgery is daunting but having it done will greatly improve the quality of your life. Also, if they BOTH need to be replaced my advice would be to have them both done at the same time. Then it's One & Done (okay... make that Two & Done) and that second surgery isn't looming ahead in your future.
I am not writing all this to be bossy or a know-it-all. It is the same advice I'd give to my own father if he still lived. Your not my father but I (and several thousand others) DO CARE about you deeply, Gene and want you to be around to tell us storys for as long as possible. All excellent advice. I think the hardest part for Paw Paw will be allowing others to tend to his babies even though everyone on that hill is more than capable. He’ll be more concerned about those animals than himself. He absolutely loves just visiting with them and taking his little boys on rides. I hope he decides to put himself first and comes to realize that a few weeks of therapy and recovery will go by quickly enough and he’ll feel so much better in the long run.

Lex is doing so good with his football. He’s a quick learner. Those joint replacements nowadays are so amazing, two people I know, this summer had their knees done and they were back up and doing their things within two weeks. One of them was my water aerobics teacher, she was teaching water aerobics, outside of the water in 10 days. She could not drive. I was driving her. It’s amazing what they can do. Although she did complain about the pain because they would not give her any pain medicine.🤷♀️ that’s a big deal here in California. Nobody gets pain medicine anymore. I think that’s so cruel.

Hello Pawpaw 👋🏾 😊. If you or Gigi put a small dab of mentholatum or vicks vapor rub just above or around Verdes incision, she should leave it alone. Most dogs don't like the smell & won't lick the area so it can heal. Jake's a great young man, he's doing alot of extra repairs & tidying up lately (probably in preparation for when they move).

My MIL had both of her knees done within 6 weeks. She was 76 and did wonderful. She lost some weight and her legs were straight again. You can do this with God’s help. Praying for you two.

❤❤ pawpaw I know, I don't send you a lot of things or tell you a lot of things on people tell you, but let me tell you something I was a CNA for 18 years and the more you put off on any kind of surgery, it's where sure, it's gonna be on you y'all are getting older now and the more you wait. The longer it's gonna take for you to heal. Yes, you're gonna have to have therapy afterwards. You will have to take it One Day at a Time. With that, don't get discouraged and just get it done because if you don't, you're not gonna have a normal life like you want so just keep that in mind? I just wanted to tell you that so you and your wife would be Understand with that. Yes, i've had hip surgery twice, so I know how things are, just take it one day at a time and god is going to help both of us❤❤

Yes, we finally got our power on yesterday, 9/30 @4.20. But we were ready to in set for the long haul. When Matthew came through in 16/17, our power was out for 7 days. We have our blackstone grill, charcoal grill, and a Coleman 2 burner gas grill. I had bought tons of the gas for the grill and stove at the beginning of September. A very kind gentleman from shellman Bluff loaned us a generator. So we kept our refrigerator and freezer going. Didn't lose any food. Our internet was spotty revised it when we could. I am very grateful that it wasn't any worse. We had a tree come down across our road that took our power lines out. My son went and cut up us a path to get in and out. We live on a road with one way in and out. I don't want to sound like I am complaining. I am so not that I am just very THANKFUL for everything ❤❤❤❤

I was just sitting here thinking that you’re the only creator on the hill who doesn’t really ever complain about negative comments. Maybe you get less of them than the others, but you never really let them get to you. I think it’s because you have the ability to laugh at yourself. You also have enough confidence in yourself to not let what anyone thinks upset you. I admire you for that.
When my Flash was neutered, he hated that cone so much that he broke it right off. lol
Poor Verdi. It takes a little longer for the females to recuperate after spaying.
Jake will always try to help you out. He doesn’t even tell you what he’s doing. He just sees something that needs to be done and does it. He’s not looking for recognition and he never brags on himself. He wants to make sure he leaves Morrow Hill in great shape.
Lex is doing great for his first time playing football. I’m sure it helps knowing that his family is there cheering him on.

Mornin PawPaw. Please think of it this way about your knees. Anything you do besides knee replacement is just a Prolonging the inevitable if they are bone on bone. A few weeks of pain and therapy is better than not getting it done and being in pain every day for the rest of your life because it will only get worse as the muscles and ligaments change and deteriorate over time. Good luck at the doctors.

My boy got his ankle stomped bad in game this weekend… it’s so hard to just have to sit there in the bleachers when it’s your grandbaby writhing on the field. Ain’t nothing like watching them throw n run them touchdowns tho 😊 I love it!💗
My mom and dad both had knee replacements and it was the best thing they ever did. Sure the first 6 weeks were slow but now they walk so much better.
