  • NVIDIA NERFS THE RTX 5090? Memory & SM Specs See HUGE Cut
    If the latest RTX 50 Blackwell rumours are true, Nvidia seems to have NERFED the RTX 5090, as the latest RTX 50 specs leaks point towards the memory and SM seeing a HUGE cut. Join us as we examine the latest leaked RTX 50 specifications, how they line up with previous reports, and how likely it is that the RTX 5090 flagship GPU has been nerfed in both memory and SMs. RTX 50 Blackwell graphics cards are highly anticipated, especially as RDNA 4 will not be entering a high end card into the race. Will they still manage to meet the expectations of specs and gameplay and ray tracing performance?
    We also have some updates on the as yet unannoucned RTX 50 SUPER / TITAN cards, with some very early specs, and what kind of improvements we could expect, and a small update on AMD RDNA 4.

    All the rumors have simply been exaggerated to generate clicks. There was never an incentive to have a fully configured 5090, for the same reason there was never a fully configured 4090. AMD doesn't compete on the very high end and the profit margin using the silicone on their professional data center and AI solutions instead is infinitely higher.

    • @evers6214
      @evers6214 Месяц назад +1

      I agree. This generation I think nvidia will just be releasing poor quality silicon to gamers. The only reason to “cut down” these things is to chop off the defective bits. They are going to target a performance level just about 20-30% better than a 4090 to start with. Every 202 chip that mostly works is being shuffled up to AI workstations.
      What happens if they don’t have enough defective chips to make 5090s? Thats easy, raise prices.

The new memory management diminishes the importance of an extra 4 GB significantly especially if you have more then one gpu. Memory band with is the real selling point of Blackwell for local ai inference and ffine tuning in my opinion.

    Tbh, Nvidia cutting down the memory bus from 512-bit to 448-bit isn't a big problem, in my opinion, as a 448-bit bus would give the 5090 a massive 28GB VRAM capacity along with a considerable boost to bandwidth as 448-bit is still a big increase over a 384 bit bus. 448-bit bus alongside GDDR7 should provide plenty of bandwidth and would be a big bandwidth increase over the 4090. What I am concerned about, though, is that Nvidia will cut the number of SMs by a large margin. I really hope they don't disable something like 30+ SMs, as that would be a massively cut down chip for the 5090.

    the 448-bit bus is just 2 less VRAM chips. Now with that said they also can go from 2GB to 3GB or 4GB GDDR Chips which can make up for the less amount of chips but get more VRAM. So up to 56GB on that card with a 448-bit bus. As the highest end GPU business line has 48GB having 56GB on it will make sense for a decent generational bump. Unsure GDDR7 work internally but if the controller in the GPU chip doesn't have to change from 2GB to 3GB to 4GB having the same GPU chip with 3 different VRAM Chip sizes would make sense for this generation.
    The 2GB size for consumers the 3GB size for the business line and the 4GB size for the data center line all with the same GPU. Meaning alot more VRAM with no physical change needed by nVidia. Now with that said that is assuming the memory controller can be the same for all 3 sizes which is true for a CPU with DDR but unsure with a GPU with GDDR.

    Why would nvidia raise the price of the 5080? The 4080 sold poorly and was basically laughed out the door, the super being $1,000 probably didn't well well either since it's been readily available and can be found for hundreds below msrp (at least Is here in australia) I can't see nvidia being dumb enough to price it wrong twice in a row, especially if its only 16gb lol. $999 or bust. As for the 5099 that's a different story .if it actually stays the same price and is ober 50% ahead of the 4090 I might consider it. But I have a feeling that's the card they'll try to push further. The 5080 though...only an idiot would pay over $1,000 for an 80 class card imo. No offence to the crazy people that bought a 4080 (terrible choice 😂)

    Hamstringing memory is a typical Nvidia thing to do, so theyll quite possibly release the 5090 with 448bit bus AND the slowest gddr7 ram possible, with the super having a few more cores enabled and slightly faster gddr to increase the memory bandwidth, then the Ti will have more cores again and fastest gddr7, so that finally the titan can have the full cores on die enabled as well as the full memory bus and fast gddr7... Titan at $3500 anyone?

    The 4080 launch price was $1200, not $1000. If Nvidia goes over $1200, which made the 4080 the worst selling 80 class they had ever released, somehow managing to undercut Turing, then the card simply won't sell again. People with a bunch of disposable income will buy the 5090. People who maybe saved a little bit and couldn't quite justify $2200 for a 5090 will look at $1200 for an 80 class card and either stick with what they have, or buy a 4080 Super used for $650 or so, then in a year Nvidia will have to cut the price $200 bucks and release a slightly card while the old 5080's sit on shelves with retailers and AIB's screaming at Nvidia to offer some rebates on cards that are literally impossible to sell. I mena come on, they are $200 more than the Super models while performing 2-5% worse.
    Jensen is too intelligent to price them at $1200 again, never mind over that unless something insane happens, they beat the 4090 buy 30% and have more than 16GB of VRAM as again, that is going to start turning into an issue at 1440P native/4K upscaled in single player games within a year of the damn card's release. Frankly I was astonished that they were going with 16GB to begin with, then I remembered the 3080FE I have in my PC and shook my head in utter contempt.
