I think that when the English version of Imaginary Friend was released, Apple Music said that the song was about the parasocial relationship we as fans have with kpop idols. That’s why they keep repeating they are our “Imaginary Friends” and they will keep us safe and dreaming but in contrast the song and mv look cold almost sad, having an imagery of the girls running in circles, being hurt and trying to stop the bleeding without succeeding , being scared and harmed by shadows that can’t touch them but the itzy girls can feel them, the girls trying to cover lia’s eyes at the end, a butterfly pinned to a wall, so beautiful and still so we can see it carefully but so in pain at the same time. Actually Lia herself said that we as fans get to decide if imaginary friend is a good thing or not. Absolutely stunning, not many songs in kpop invite us to reflect about how we consume our favorite idols.

I think that this song hits the hardest emotionally for people that have something bottled up inside. Whether it's sadness, anxiety, stress, or anything, this song can bring it out. I like to think of the song itself as our imaginary friend that we can open up to, and release everything to it. We all are lucky that our imaginary friend here sounds like Lia. Everything about the song is relatively simple (just 3 chords, simple stripped back choreo and styling) but it's done in a complex and in a precise way. Definitely my favorite ITZY song, and one of my all time favorite songs regardless of genre.

I think of them as the little sisters to ITZY where NMIXX sings as well as ITZY dances, and dances as well as ITZY sings. Both are great performance groups. With this song, it feels like a new chapter has begun for them, and as a fan, I can clearly feel how much they care about their fans. In particular, the choreography in this song includes many swan-like movements in the music video. I think this might symbolize ITZY’s journey by comparing it to the movements of a swan. Swans appear graceful above the water, but beneath the surface, their feet are constantly moving. I knew they could deliver something that's closer to my taste since they're well trained and skilled, but this exceeded any expectations I ever had. They truly outdid themselves, not because the quality wasn't there before, but because it usually takes some gradual changes to reach high level product when changing concepts and styles. Props to both Itzy and everyone who worked on this project.
