In my 40's, As a teenager started with a pager maker to make pamphlets for a local print shop. Later studied Mechanical engineering but focused on ergonomics, eng drawing, engine design. I did a master in design from where I have changed cities every 2 years. Started my design career as a researcher and now doing UX. Now practising motion graphics and planing for game development in future. Design is a variable field where you can experiment at large in life so don't settle for one aspect of it.

It depends on the situation. Generally, you SHOULD try to find something you want to specialize in, because employers in companies are usually looking for people with specific job titles and specific roles, especially in junior and mid roles (e.g.: Graphic Designer, UI/UX Designer, Web Designer, Packaging Designer). So, unless you're looking for work at an early-stage startup, you won't typically see job posts requiring a Product-UI/UX-Graphic-Illustrator-3D Designer & Front-end Developer.
In my opinion, being a jack-of-all-trades is mostly useful in two situations: 1) at the beginning of your career, when you want to experiment with different things and decide what niche you will focus on, and 2) when you are at a Senior-level position, like Design Lead, Creative Director, Fullstack Designer, Brand Consultant, etc., because these positions require you to understand and facilitate different design and development practices.

I just passed halfway through my 20s and am trying to switch my career as a web designer from a clerical worker (before that I was an English instructor😅) now is the time that I’ve been finally focusing on what I really wanted to study and somehow contribute to the society since I was a college student. I should’ve started earlier but I hope it’s still not too late to start learning and become a web designer!

Being in the 20's sucks because we think reality will come to us sooner and for that, we overthink a lot on what and where we needed to be. Like time is my enemy, rushing to learn this and that. And that's what I'm struggling with now. It's sad.

"meet and work with many as possible" that's why I'm freelancing right now. Than being stuck as a in-house designer. It opens a lot of doors. When I work for others as an in-house. It felt like I don't have any ownership or I'm just there to help them finish the work but not solve a problem. But hey, that's just me.

Effective website design requires producing a bespoke site that can be developed and updated to meet new market demands or business growth. Creating the initial design features and functionality involves knowing the client’s audience focus, and researching the best way to reach and engage with this specific market. It takes time to get this just right.

I'd love a video explaining your experience with transitioning from a full time job to freelancing. Things you learned and what you would have done differently if you could go back in time. I don't currently work in design but have been freelancing for over a year. I have a wife and daughter and am trying to know when the time is right to fully shift gears. Working two "full time" jobs is very stressful on my family and relationships and I'm wondering what the best approach would be to ease into design while maintaining a reliable income and benefits to support my family.

Well, how many things do I have to do at the same time to be a designer ? Yes ! Hardcore Multitasker hahahaha
I can say I tried a lot of different things, like photography, video, print, oil painting, wathercolor, illustration, digital illustration, sculpture, weld, apps, some coding... I like to know a lot of things, but I can't go in deep in all those things for different reasons (like time is limited, and they cost money)
Definitively I have to work on Networking...

first off thanks.i got one for ya.my issue is how to show all these skills and still remain appealing to customers? I am building a portfolio site and I have been doing 2d digital paintings (quite good) and book covers. That has expanded me into designing logos , typography and have taken a web design course and doing 3d sculptures.
How do I integrate it into being able to show these different interests in my portfolio where all the suggestions I've gotten is to be specific in a niche so that I can get commissioned work. Essentially you seem too scattered and all over the place.
Ps still in my 20s 😇
    Hope you respond
    Thanks again
