I remember bringing my GBA to school and having tons of people sitting behind me in the stairs watching me play Pokemon Emerald, Sonic Advance 3 and Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Red Rescue Team, great times.
GBA has some of my favorite games of all time, and I'm so happy that you included all of them (sans Zero Mission, but I totally get it lol). You're so based, and so is this medley, I'm really happy that you're keeping up the good work!
One of my favorite GBA games that didn't make it, though I entirely undstand not making it, is actually Star Wars: Episode III on GBA. It's a very nice beat em up style game.
Man, for a song I entered into the raffle last minute, not wanting to let my entry go to waste, you incorporated Wario's Adventure in a really cool way! Having it appear four times throughout the medley (which i was NOT expecting at all lmao) to neatly tie songs together is quite a clever solution to all the songs having significantly different BPMs from each other. The added escape sequence bit is a really nice touch too! Fantastic medley Jonny.
My first-ever GBA game was Wario Land 4. That was the only game I had, so I didn't have much of a choice but to play that one game. Even better was the fact I played it on a GBA Platinum. Those were the days...
My first successful run of final fantasy 1 in the dawn of souls port. 2nd place will always be my first run of metroid fusion that game has ya at the edge of seat most of it XD 3rd will be all cool memories in mmbn series.
Sadly never owned a GBA growing up (didn't get my first game system until the DS back in 2009 for Christmas when I was 7) but I did play a few GBA games via the Wii U VC like Superstar Saga and of all things: Mario Party Advance. I guess if you wanna count it, I played Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire (which are underrated as heck) and last year I got Pokemon Mystery Dungeon:Blue Rescue Team which is pretty much like it's GBA counterpart. Also I started watching the Pokemon Anime around Advanced Battle (around the Hoenn League) so there's that. So yeah, my time with the GBA was a weird one. I guess my fondest GBA memory was finally beating Cackletta's Soul in Superstar Saga. Then I did it 3 years later in the 3DS remake. I would cry tears of joy if we get a DS Medley.
Dr. Weil: "This is the original Zero body!" Me: *jaw drops, X vs. Zero flashback* Also, Mega Man Battle Network is an AMAZING series, especially 2/3/6. Even 1, as the setup.
I friggin legit teared up when I've heard Rainbow Route. It is one of the tracks that induces me the most nostalgia in the entire earth. Kirby and the Amazing Mirror was my first GBA game ever.
Frontier brain battle theme is my favorite since... I think ever, it makes me think every move I do, the next one The pressure whenever I stand in that 'arena' in front of those Bosses, hahahaha Now I have a strong reason to go back and finally beat them, HERE I GO!!!!!!!!! Thanks man
Oh god, Final Transmission. This brings back so many memories of slamming my head against the final boss of MMBN3 and all the feelings from the ending... MMBN was my favorite series growing up, and Final Transmission is one of my favorite tracks from the series. Thank you, Jonny, for including it and thank you, Steve, for requesting it.
Gotta say Jonny. It's been a pleasure listening to you over the years. You have been one of the few musicians on youtube thats been able to improve the kind of sound you make consistently. This year compared to last is no exception (even though 2019 had complete bangers). Looking forward to your ADVANCE next year. ;)
Ngl Frontier Brain cover was absolutely incredible and stole the whole spot for me! But Sami's Theme and Cheese Land were also great, thank you patrons for voting for those!
I can’t believe it! So many good games, so many good tunes! My favorite tactical game (Advance Wars), my favorite racing game (F-Zero GP Legend), and my favorite JRPG (Mother 3), all in one medley. Big thanks to Jonny, and big respect for Patreon guys. Very good submissions!
The GBA game I have the fondest memories of, outside of the incomparable 3rd gen Pokemon games is being exposed to the Fire Emblem series through the 1st internationally-released title (in Japan, it's the 7th game, titled "The Blazing Blade"). Immediately fell in love with the series. Does my heart good to see that you added Sami's theme from Advance Wars, IntSys's other most well-known series. I didn't get into it as much as I did FE, but I have fond memories of AW. As a matter of fact, I plan on getting the Advance Wars bundle port when it comes out.
This medley is my childhood. Long nights spent under my sheets with a GBA worm light on, playing Pokemon or Zelda. You know what else is my childhood? Kingdom Hearts! For a franchise universally recognized for it's amazing music, it's almost criminal that you haven't covered anything from it yet. I'd love to hear your take on Rage Awakened or Wave of Darkness!
Ngl when it started I was like "I hope there's some Golden Sun in this" and lo and behold, the very first song covered was the Title Theme. Insta-liked.
Wow. So glad you put MMBN3 Final Transmission in your medley. I almost droped tears when I saw it. Thanks for que request, Steve, and thanks Jonny for cover it :)
Starting this medley off with Golden Sun's main theme made me instantly fall in love with it. The memories of playing through these games as a child just came flowing back to me, I honestly could have cried. Both GBA Golden Sun titles are up under my personal top three GBA games. They are amazing and beautiful games, and I really do wish we'd see the series again someday.
I waited so much for a battle network song... and it was nothing more than FINAL TRANSMISSION from BN3 thank you johnny, hope you do the Cybeast Theme soon... or other themes, battle networks music is amazing
Ugh, what a great way to honor so many fantastic classics. Golden Sun, Minish Cap, Advance Wars, Mother 3, Amazing Mirror, Metroid Fusion... phew. Impossible to pick a favorite!
The Gameboy Advance, last of the era where videogame music had to be creative more than theatrical. Some of the most memorable tunes and soundtracks in all of gaming came from those early systems, and the GBA took it to the limit. From the GAX sound engine of Shin'en, to the tropical sound of Yoshi's Island's Gameboy entry, the sound of the GBA remains iconic and memorable for me. Thanks for covering so many great songs here in this medley, and perhaps you've given some of us some more ideas to tickle your fancy with next year. Happy Holidays, GaMetal fans, and merry Christmas Mr. Atma!
Super glad you had True Area 53 in this medley - music from the first GBA game I ever played and beat! That, the Frontier Brain cover, and the M&L acoustic at the end had me in a full-on nostalgia kick when I heard 'em. Just digging up all those wonderful teenage memories I'd all but forgotten about over the years.
SO MUCH YES IN THIS MEDLEY!! Golden Sun Title! Cheese Land! Rainbow Route?!?! And you made it work too! Final Transmission..just omg. True Area 53, holy moly Metroid Fusion representation! Yoshi Island's Overworld from the GBA port and the Frontier Brain Battle from Pokemon Emerald..that hits pretty deep, that's my childhood! I love the superstar saga menu acoustic too!
Rainbow route is my CHILDHOOD,i always played kirby and the amazing mirrors and spent most of my time being there because i did not know where to go to continue, thx man!
You absolutely caught me off guard with the Megaman Battle Network 3 song. My goodness the memories came rushing back as I headed to the final boss for the first time.
You have no idea how happy I (Danny) am to see the Dept. Heaven games get some love. Both Riviera and Yggdra are fairly underrated RPGs on the GBA. I was stuck between Riviera's Final Battle or Battle Against Demon Family songs for the request list last year. Another killer medley that I can just listen on a loop.
My dad had the shareware version of Doom, so that was the first game I got for the GBA. Chu Chu Rocket was really fun, and it was surreal seeing the Sonic Team logo on a Nintendo machine - to say nothing of receiving and playing Sonic Advance for the first time. Mario Kart Super Circuit was a thrill, Advance Wars was a presentational marvel, Mario & Luigi broadened my (admittedly limited) frame of reference on RPGs and turn-based combat, and Battle Network turned the idea on its head entirely. Having all the Genesis/SNES ports on the system also offered a way to play classics on the go that wasn't really a reasonable option beforehand, though even the GBA's native lack of backlight and screen resolution resulted in compromises. To me what's most interesting about the system wasn't the library I was able to play on the system itself, but on PC - when I caught a fateful glimpse of a classmate playing Pokemon Ruby on school computers, that was my introduction to the world of games I never had the chance to try as a kid (Rocket Knight Adventures, Gunstar Heroes, Dynamite Headdy, most everything SNES) but also the chance to try relatively-modern games that weren't available in the shops where I lived (Astro Boy Omega Factor) or games that hadn't even come out here yet (playing Gunstar Future Heroes on one computer while a friend watched the sub of Advent Children on his laptop was a surreal experience that still resonates with me). Down the road I would test new machines like the PSP, Wii U or 3DS with Aria of Sorrow, Ninja Cop, Boktai, Mario VS Donkey Kong, Battle Network 6 etc, and later I would learn through minimme's channel about the absolute wealth of boundary-pushing games and tech demos on the humble 32-bit handheld. It goes without saying that the 3DS or Wii or even DS would trounch even the GBA's attempts at 3D, but seeing Asterix and Obelix or Driver 3 on the system was almost as eye-opening as seeing F-Zero Maximum Velocity for the first time. "This is what the GBA can do?!" You see ports and collections of GBA titles on more recent Nintendo hardware, and I get the mindset behind it - the system is nearly 20 years old and there's a lot of nostalgia there, and opportunities to financially capitalise on that. It's easier to wrap those ROMs in an emulator shell than recreate them from scratch with new graphics and content, or widescreen/difficulty/save mods. And there's a lot of games I don't mind rebuying or pirating and playing in their original state, though on a much bigger monitor. I won't pretend however, that the 240x160 native resolution and limited palette are easy pills to swallow - there's some give-and-take if you're playing these titles for the first time nowadays, whether you're doing it in 4K or on the original purple brick. But if you can accept the small screen (regular or blown-up) and general reliance on sprites over smooth polygonal models, and accept that the context of the GBA's release led to a lot of retro rereleases, you'll still find a broad library of original, no-nonsense classics of all genres. Just don't play Sonic the Hedgehog Genesis.
Your medleys are always such a delight to listen to. You have to love those ambitious crossovers. ; ) My fondest GBA SP memory was Final Fantasy I & II, as both the system and game were a gift to me from someone very important.
Beautiful, absolutely beautiful! GBA Games make up the majority of my channel's gameplay videos... Glad this handheald treasure got the recognition it deserved
I was NOT expecting that bit from Bomberman Tournament. Beach World is my favorite location theme(besides the sick dungeon music). And then that Final Transmission from BN3. And do I even need to talk on the Frontier Brain theme? Good on you, requesters. And great playing man.
You nailed everything! Zelda: Minish Cap, Kirby & Amazing Mirror, Sonic Advance 2, Metroid Fusion, Yoshi's Island, and ending with Pokemon Emerald's Frontier Brain theme?! You madman!! Super well done, as always!!
Growing up with the GBC and GBA, my best memories of it were with Pokemon Crystal, the two Golden Sun games on the system, and Metroid Fusion. Loved those games and the system as well. There were alot of great games for the handheld market in the late 90s and early 2000s that many people like myself developed great memories with.
Thank you Gametal Sempai, for fulfilling my request from Megaman Battle Network, I am really pleased ... May you have success with your future projects, I will always be encouraging.
The game boy advance was incredible, because he could play one of warios greatest achievements on it
But look guys,look look.
It's one of my greatest achievements
And Mother 3
More like all of wario’s greatest achievements
And thinking about it, how come there's no wario ware/wario land on switch?
@@MrOz1705 Sad wah noises
Okay, this medley was ADVANCED
WARS
BOOOO!! XD
I remember bringing my GBA to school and having tons of people sitting behind me in the stairs watching me play Pokemon Emerald, Sonic Advance 3 and Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Red Rescue Team, great times.
pokemon MDRRT is my favorite pokemon spin-off
I was always more for the Pokémon games and Crash Nitro Kart with the occasional pop-in of Mario Kart: Super Circuit and Mario Advance 1 and 2.
Starting off with Golden Sun! Nice.
I spontaniously teared up when he started with Golden sun. Sooo many memories.
Leading with the best.

Woah, nice to see PKBeats here!
BRUH EVEN A COVER OF THE START UP SOUND
This channel is the best
Could you imagine what a Regi Trio cover would sound like from this guy?
Gotta love that Final Transmission bit, super hoping for a full cover someday. Battle Network is a treasure trove of music
A person after my heart
Let's start asking for them, I wanted the Cybeast Cover for a looooong time
12:36 That single glimpse of Bowser got a good laugh out of me.
Man, for a song I entered into the raffle last minute, not wanting to let my entry go to waste, you incorporated Wario's Adventure in a really cool way!

Fantastic medley Jonny.
💜
Nice touch making the Wario Ware songs short and scattered throughout. Just like the microgames themselves!
Wasn't expecting Riviera... So damn good!
...
And Yggdra Union as well. Oh crap! :D
Shout out to the patron(s) who suggested Riviera and Yggdra Union. Was not expecting such a pleasant surprise!
Yeah. I am glad people still love the Dept. Heaven Series
Share with me your favorite GBA memories! I mentioned mine in the description. :)
Mine's got to be going through Final Fantasy 5 officially in English for the first time ever. Then I got to the bonus content and my brain exploded.
My first-ever GBA game was Wario Land 4. That was the only game I had, so I didn't have much of a choice but to play that one game. Even better was the fact I played it on a GBA Platinum. Those were the days...

Thinking of BN4's fight with duo, that series really did go hard with absolutely ridiculous climaxes
Nebula Gray and the Cybeasts were INCREDIBLY good final bosses as well. Megaman Battle Network is amazing

F-F-Fire! Was the last song I expected to see here, but I’m so happy it made it in
Is there a song from this medley you'd like to hear a full version of?
Frontier Brain ! Definitely !! Incredible
F-f-fire was great. Just another Mother cover would be awesome tbh since there’s a lot of good music to choose from
Easily Fronteir Brain from Pokemon. I'm a sucker for Pokemon content. F-F-Fire from Mother 3 would be cool as well.
I need a full version of Max Heat god damn that song is a banger
Frontier Brain, Sami and Cheese Land are the main ones I'd like to see get the full treatment some day.

CASTLEVANIA: CIRCLE OF THE MOON
heck yea!
Thankyou so much for having Golden Sun first. If there is one game or mascot I think of / represent the GBA for me it's definitely Golden Sun
I cant believe someone remembered Riviera, that ost is fire
Max Heat, Arachnus X, Comrades and an epic Frontier Brain on the end.
Thanks a lot and merry Christmas, man!
FROGGER'S ADVENTURES FANS RISE TF UP

My first game system to call my own as a kid. I can't wait to see what classics could be in the mix.
GaMetal is the only covers channel that would cover something as obscure as Yggdra Union and goddamn do we appreciate it
This remix hits so many checkmarks for me. YOU EVEN INCLUDED A BATTLE NETWORK SONG.
I love how metalizing Kirby doesn’t change the mood.
Hearing Golden Sun at the start out a huge smile on my face. I need to replay the series again
Two Dept. Heaven songs in a single video? Man, this is the most exposure the series have received in the last 10 years.
Circle of the Moon and Riviera in the same medley? BRUH, that gave me goosebumps
Wow. Someone actually acknowledges Riviera: The Promised Land and Yggdra Union.

Really happy you put Fire Emblem in there, my heart.
I love how the medley ended with the Battle Frontier Brain theme, probably the pinnacle of Advance with Emerald.
That was awesome! Tune in next time for some Diddy Kong Racing!(?)
It sure is! I was wondering what it was. It's the boxart on the back. Thank you!
Thanks for playing my favorite music of my favorite pokemon generation ! 🤗
Rainbow Route almost made me tear up. What a beautiful nostalgia bomb.
I love Riviera The Promised Land so much back when I was a teenager. Thanks for the fantastic remix
Instant like for Golden Sun title theme and a just this medley in general, will have this on repeat for a while.
I'm glad to hear Sami's theme
Max Heat right after Final Transmission? Hell yeah
i love that you added the final battle to Riviera. its such an underrated game and the final boss is super intense. Keep up the excellent work Jonny!
Starting this medley off with Golden Sun's main theme made me instantly fall in love with it.

*Or both*
