  • This Washington State nature walk starts at the end of Ringold River Road, Mesa, WA 99343 in Hanford Reach, GPS coordinates 46.594087, -119.374824. It is known at Hanford Reach South in my hiking book, but on Google maps it is called White Bluffs Trailhead. I hike north on the old abandoned road during the hot summer with some amazing views. It is a dog friendly hike along the Columbia River with lots of habitat for birds, lizards, and rattlesnakes, so be careful.
Across the river you get views of the Hanford Site established during World War 2 as a key component in the Manhattan Project, and later on Cold War nuclear weapons development. It is home to the first large scale nuclear reactors and is currently running one nuclear reactor called the Columbia Generating Station creating 1230 megawatts of electricity. This part of the river is also one of the last stretches of free-flowing Columbia River and makes for good spawning grounds for salmon and shoreline habitat for birds.
The video is filmed at 4K 60FPS (UHD) with a GoPro HERO11 Black in July of 2023 (summer).
