As someone who really only discovered the Mega Drive as an adult, it has been such a source of joy playing all the great games for the first time that I missed while younger. Looking forward to watching this epic video!
Found your channel via your excellent Strike series doc. Checked out your channel and find a near 12 hour doc all about the megadrive. Automatic subscription! 😆
Wow...okay I'll try and do it over 3 days this is next level content.....you are delivering bangers with every single doc style upload the last 3-5 years You are am absolute legend it's only fair I show the correct level of respect and watch every single minute. Just an idea going forward I'd love to see you apply your magic to a documentary on Classic Doom games and the crazy amazing mods that evolved like brutal doom. No doubt you can do a video about anything in video games and make something amazing. Thank you Bash.b
I loved the Mrga Drive when I was a kid, I was never a fan of the Super Nintendo as their games were more kid friendly as for the Mega Drive their games were more adult based and pushed the boundaires by adding more graphic violence.
Me too , supernes had no real appeal for me either ...US RUclips gaming history is so lopsided in this respect they make it sound like literally nothing was released in the 90s besides Nintendo products 😵😵
Super Nintendo was the console for RPGs, just not in Europe! Without those, its library was severely lacking to the Mega Drive’s which is why it’s so loved over here. If Nintendo had bothered to release more here I would have got one but it just didn’t have the ‘killer apps’ the US enjoyed.
These long-form videos (like your Arcade Director's Cut) are quickly making you one of my favorite channels on RUclips. They're endlessly re-watchable and so well done! You put in amazing work. I can't fathom how you don't have more subscribers! 🕹
Cheers i appreciate that 😎👍 ...well as you can see this video has bombed already ...almost no views I guess by not putting fake clickbait titles and BS like that RUclips just ignores it ....oh well as long as somebody enjoys it ✅
I started gaming back in 1986 with the Nes and Master System. At that time, I was a very casual player. One of the things that really bothered me was I didn't understand why the arcades were always so much better. Just like the arcades became the bane of my young existence. When would we ever get the spectacle of the arcades at home? One day I was at the grocery store with my mother looking at video game magazines when I saw EGM- Sega Genesis vs TG-16 coverage, and I had to have it. From that point forward, I knew I had to get one, but which one? For months I went back and forth. I was about to tell my mother/father that I wanted a TG-16 when fate took over. My best friend got his Sega Genesis early with Ghouls n' Ghosts. When I saw Altered Beast and Ghouls n' Ghosts running my mind was gone. The graphics, gameplay, sound, music, sound effects were all ripped right from the arcade with minimal loss. We played his Genesis all weekend long and I finally knew what I wanted. That Christmas of 1989 I got my Sega Genesis w/ Altered Beast, Ghouls n' Ghosts, and Space Harrier II. My parents also promised to pick up Phantasy Star 2 when they found it which they did a couple of months later.
omg it is going to take an ungodly amount of ☕ that one ! Only rivaled by the amount of coffee needed to create that virtual pyramid of retrogaming i'll bet.
Here in argentina, where most if not all our mega drive cartridges were bootlegs, tetris was very common to find, as well you could easily find other games that years later I learned were canceled, such as itchy and scratchy.
I had a SEGA Master System first and there are some great games, I occasionally play Power Strike (Aleste), which is probably the best shmup for the 8 Bit era. Secret Command is also insanely good and it's a two player coop game. On Switch I played Phantasy Star for the Master System, fascinating, I missed the Phantasy Star franchise when I was a kid. Never forget the three Wonder Boy titles for the Master System, Wonder Boy III is so good, probably the best game for the Master System. I really enjoyed the awesome remake for Switch and it's spiritual successor Monster Boy on Switch. ❤
I know I already posted but did you happen to notice the software scaling in Burning Force? It looked incredible and what Sega should have done with Space Harrier II. Not to mention that's what should have been done for Space Harrier II *scaling edition for the Genesis Mini 2.
Space Harrier 2 was a launch game so techniques constantly get better with time and changing Space Harrier 2 for the mini 2 would be weird ... It's not a remix system but the games as they were back then .But i totally get what you saying the burning force engine would be amazing with the game no doubt 👍👍👍
@BastichB64K No, they did change Space Harrier 2 for the Sega Genesis Mini 2, I own it. When you select Space Harrier II from the menu, it opens a second menu. This menu contains Space Harrier and Space Harrier II with scaling, no joke. Unfortunately, M2 did not implement the scaling properly. They essentially brute forced the scaling effect, which causes both games to flicker like crazy. I mean, it gets bad, really bad. I have seen enemy shots just disappear and then reappear, killing me in the process. Had they simply used software scaling like in Burning Force, it could have been damn near flawless. Addendum - If you don't have a Genesis Mini 2, you should look into getting one. Not many were made, making them a bit expensive, but it comes with some really neat, unreleased games. I'm glad I got mine when I did. Unreleased games- 1. Devi & Pii 2. Fantasy Zone 3. Spatter 4. Space Harrier (original) 5. Space Harrier 2 *scaling 6. Star Mobile 7. Super Locomotive 8. vs. Puyo Puyo SUN
@Sinn0100 apologies I didnt know they altered games on the mini 2 , I really wanted one but it was impossible to get here in Canada and I just dont have the money for importing and such . The unreleased stuff sounds cool 👍👍
@BastichB64K No worries, man. I wish I had a second one that I could send you. The biggest problem is how much the price has increased on them since getting mine a few years ago. I paid... I think 80 bucks+14 dollars for shipping. Now, they want $250 USD for them, and that's crazy. The Genesis didn't cost that much brand new.
@Sinn0100 yeah i knew the prices would go insane , I just didn't have the funds at the time ...oh well glad you managed to get one any way thats awesome 👍
CAPCOM could not do the Megadrive games until Street Fighter 2, Any made before this was made by SEGA using a license from Capcom due to Nintendo forcing companies to only make games for them. I do wonder how close these games vould be to the Arcade version now with better development tools for the Megadrive, I would love a better version of The Punisher.
Yeah i mentioned Nintendo's licencing deal in the Beginning, i thinkost of those games could be made better now but they did good with what they had and more importantly the insane time pressure of making a game in literally a few months
11:39:26 are you fucking kidding me ... :D ... ... ... hey Bastich, remember when I've commented on your top100 c64 video every time I've continued watching it? .... :D
@BastichB64K I didn't mean any disrespect either, haha. I do prefer Genesis, though, it's unique and doesn't sound like a souped up hard disk drive which is, in my opinion, super dull sounding lol
Thunderforce 3 is way better than 4, better level design and doesn't slow down like 4. 4 was trying to do too much with distracting colours making it difficult to see enemy fire. 3 was perfect in every way and more refined, graphics and music were perfect.
Well .. strap yourselves in. We are in for the long haul of awesomeness !

Yeah our bootleg scene in South Africa was big too , i play at least 50% of these games as bootlegs 🤣🤣🤣
Just a side note regarding the SG1000 and SC3000, both models were available in Australia and the SC3000 was branded under the John Sands Sega name.
Interesting, i never knew that , thx for the info 👍👍👍

I don't know what you've watched ? , the second half is from 1993-1997 , there are chapter selects.
