Same! I also laughed out loud when he brought out his old charging cable; the timing of that edit was perfect! It was fun to see his experience discovering Mac design .
Recent Mac convert here. I was surprised at how strong the magnet is on the MagSafe cable, it is VERY secure. Pulling up to get it loose was so easy though, and I think snagging the cable is better as it would just fall away at an angle. I love it.
I recently got the M4 MacBook Pro (16GB RAM, 1TB SSD, Space Black, 14 inch) and I've been loving it for almost a month now. This is my first exposure to owning a Mac, and I swear this is the best laptop I've ever had, probably the best computer overall I've ever used. I've shown all my iPhone footage at DaVinci Resolve (free version) and it's just seamless. I don't think I've ever heard the fans power up, and the battery easily lasts all day no matter what I do. I could not be happier with it.
@@jayabohara8358 What do you mean by "Download RUclips"? If it has a MacOS App, you'd find it on the App Store. Beyond that, not sure what "website block" means. You're replying, so YT isn't blocked in general. You make no sense.
Don’t let the Apple haters convince you to return it, you will eventually get used to it and find it easier to use than any windows computer you have ever had.
I’ve used a Mac for a year now and still think it's very cumbersome to use. The file Explorer is pretty terrible. We just got proper windows management features but they aren't as good as on windows still. The doc isn't very intuitive. I definitely prefer windows for it's ease of use. Mac is more advanced and has better support for homebrew and customization but that also adds bloat and difficulty. So it's a tradeoff.
It’s worth learning. Our school purchased MacBooks for all the teachers and it was a trauma for many, but now, a little bit over a year later we all love it! It’s truly an amazing machine! Enjoy!!!🎉
Logitech MX Master 3S for Mac is a scum. It cost the same as a non-mac version and the only difference between mac and non-mac versions is that non-mac has an additional "Bolt" adapter in the box. That's it. The mice are identical. By getting "for Mac" mouse version you only lose an adapter and get the same mouse.
This is exactly my own first experience with Macbook at all. Two days ago it was delivered to me (16” M4Pro 1TB) and after first hard encounter with MacOS I am getting use to it now. It seems to be very fast and comfortable to edit on (DaVinci Studio 19). Battery is more than sufficient to work and render on it with full speed (HUGE WIN over Windows laptops!) and the nanotexture screen seems to be just doing its job (I was never happy with glossy screens). After changing from Windows laptop do this one - well, this is something different and I definitely like it. What I don’t really like are the prices and Magic Mouse. It is more comfortable to operate and edit on touchpad (which is also very impressive). When I got the package I was informed by a friend that MAX versions are the best choice for rendering videos as it has two encoding engines over one in Pro versions (even older iterations of MAX processors). I never found such informations before my purchase. Anyway, rendering is much faster on that laptop so for me it’s a big change. After having iPhone and iPAD now it was time for laptop. Maybe with time I will also switch to Mac Studio as well. Time will show.
Good afternoon Jordan! Love the Macbook! Something that I found with Mac's is that you can enable the right click function in the settings which makes it feel more like a windows based computer. If you go to settings/trackpad/secondary click/ select bottom right corner. You talked about having to go up to the top right to minimize or exit out of an application. Now, you can just go to the application in the bottom tray and right click and a dialog box will come up and you can make a selection from there without having to go to the top of the application. Hope this helps and makes it more user friendly for you. Take care and go Bruins!
I’m sure you will love it. Only advice I can give from Mac to PC is that you have to trust the Mac to take care of everything. Easy to install apps. Where my past PC experience I had to be more involved. As with any lap top they can get hot, esp on the bottom. So try to find ways to keep it cool. I suggest also downloading another web browser like safari just in case chrome gives you issues.
Welcome to the Mac ecosystem! Trust me when I say that mouse will be amazing. The side-scrolling is a huge help when editing video or audio and play around with the customization on the buttons. I've found that I can do all my basic edits just using the mouse and not needing to touch the keyboard.
What you may want to buy: A thunderbolt 4 docking station for both your basement office and your studio. Plug your monitors speakers, Ethernet, and external storage to the docking station. Then all you need to do is bring your MacBook and plug in one thunderbolt cable. I use the Anker 777 thunderbolt 4 docking station. It’s not the best, but it works well. You should be able to get something with even better throughput for around $200 or so.
I came here to say this... also because Macbooks can charge from any of the Thunderbolt ports (as well as the charging port), plugging in that docking station will charge the Macbook itself... so a SINGLE WIRE will do everything. This is what amazed me the most as a former-Windows user.
Epic laptop and don't let the haters convince you otherwise. It will take some time tho to get used to it. But with motivation you will get there. Mouse is great too. Wish there was a version of it for left handed users.
I'm not sure you actually *need* an ethernet cable with speed of the new Wifi protocol. It's faster than a lot of home internet so your bottleneck becomes your modem. Worth comparing those speeds. I'd suggest sticking the Dock on the left side and auto-hiding it. You can launch most programs from spotlight by typing. Those "extra" buttons on the mouse are awesome to duplicate some of the window management commands that are on the trackpad. It's really nice to be able to explode everything and swap between programs and windows.
Ethernet is always a good idea, Wifi is never as stable as a wired connection. Anything can interfere with Wifi, and even if its just 10% less speed, you will notice it with large video file uploads.
Recommendation, You should get a dock. One cable set up charging and peripherals and are not sticking out of your set up. Leaving your charger in your bag
Welcome to the family! I have a 14” M1 Pro 1TB 16GB. I use it for work and producing music and absolutely love it! I will never go back to Windows! Also, it’s awesome for Bricklink’s Studio program! Edit: a couple of notes about owning a MacBook Pro: 1) you can use any high-wattage rate USB ca or to charge it from any of the Thunderbolt ports. 2) because of this, you can use a single adapter that takes HDMI, USB, USB-C, and ethernet into one port. However, be mindful of your monitor’s refresh rate. Most of these adapters cap at 60hz. 3) commit to learning the trackpad. Honestly, you probably don’t need that mouse with the ability to scroll sideways with the trackpad. I use the trackpad when I’m using my Macbook Pro on my lap and use a track ball mouse at my desk. 4) definitely do some research into adapters. A lot of of them are good, but some are better! And there are a ton of options!
man you are going to love the M4 Pro! Ive had the M3 Pro for 1 year and it still feels like I just bought it. I legit love turning this bad boy on man! Blessings brother
Hi Bricksie. So glad you have finally received your Mac laptop. I'm sure you will be able to figure out all of your editing functions, and things will be much easier for you. Have fun and give yourself time to learn.
You can get make the dock on the left or right side of the screen, you can also have the dock disappear until you put your mouse cursor over the area. You can also get apps to make it more windows like, with windows snapping to each side, clip boards ect. I came from windows too, still use a PC for some gaming, but Mac’s starting to even get into that space too.
There are a lot customization you can do via third party apps you might want to look into if there is anything about macOS that frustrates you. macOS can actually be quite heavily customized, I know some windows user gets frustrated with some limitations, but most of them have a solution, but many don’t know what apps or tools to find or even don’t know they exist.
I changed my regular screen for an nano texture after a week, and man am I glad I did, the nano texture is awesome, and helps with eye strain I was having with the reg screen… and I downloaded Topnotch. And the notch is almost always hidden as it bugged me 😂
Man I got the M3 pro like 6 months ago but never checked out the paperwork box. I straight up RAN to the box when I saw you take out that microfiber cloth. Only to find out they definitely didn’t include those with mine. Bummer. Also. Love the comments about the charger. I had a standard MacBook like 15 years ago which had a really similar charger to today’s models and have always found it crazy that Win laptops are still using those bricks.
Enjoy your new computer! I liked that you chose to get the 16 inch. I’m saving up to get the same M4 16 inch in silver with a little bit lower specs. I can’t afford $4k+ but at least I will get the 16 inch M4.
Here's a tip, if you want to use windows you can use parallel it's a subscription but it's worth it. You can also make the mac more smooth by turning on promotion on display settings. The defualt hz is 60, but can be put to 120.
CMD+H is to hide apps. I use CMD+M to minimize them instead. Apps will minimize to the dock instead of hiding them, which I also hide the dock as well to give more space. Definitely learn macOS. It’s better than any windows system. I bought my first Mac back around 2012. I eventually switched to being a console gamer again due to how extremely bad windows has gotten. I even use to be an Apple hater but when I finally stopped the brain washing and tried a Mac, I came to love them and I even started well before Apple silicon chips. Now they are far superior than any windows systems.
Great choice with the mouse. I’m a big apple user, but not a fan of the Apple Mouse. Having said that when editing on Final Cut Pro I use as lot of keyboard commands for jog forward and backward, clip selection and tagging clips. Also the speed of the built in card reader on the new Macbook Pros is excellent.
I am windows and started using Mac a few months ago and the way the os works is different compared to windows! I think windows is much easier to use! However, good for work you do as that what Mac was designed for since 1990s
look up how to use the track pad and all the gestures. you won't use that mouse anymore. I bought the same one recently and the trackpad is just so much more convenient at least for me. took me a minute but I love it!!!!!!!
I love Mac for editing and transferring between my iPhone, iPad and MacBook Pro! I’ll never switch as it’s super fast and transferring things. Even my 2017 MacBook Pro is still good!
Hey Jordan, do not edit straight from the SD card, those exports and even the playback will suffer because the SD card and reader have muuuch slower reading speeds than your SSD. Plus, you seem to have not realized that USB-C is not a "problem" like you said nor it's an Apple thing, it's a blessing! one cable and you're good to go with every device (and now thanks to the EU, even the iphone). For older devices like hard drives with USB Micro-B, just buy the Micro-B to USB-C cable and you won't need the dongle. The Minimize problem, you can just leave Chrome and DaVinci in full screen and swipe through them with 3 fingers, it's actually much faster than minimizing. 4 finger swipe up will show you all windows you have open and you can select which one you want. Cheers!
The space black looks nice when you first buy it but over time it collects grease and finger prints like crazy. Hard to clean as well. Which is why I brought the silver color.
Nice vid! Would love to see a follow up with some Davinci Fusion graphic/text animation and tracking, if that is something you do. Have been doubting between the pro and the max, reckon the max should cut down on the render times quite a bit as well.
Great video; thank you. Congrats on the purchase! My only nervousness about the nano texture display is that it appears to reduce the brightness of text. One can see that in the store when one looks at both ones with and without the display. Any thoughts about that? best!
I hope this time it works out better for you and you give yourself more time to get used to it. I'm a mac user for many years now and I never looked back but I totally understand that a mac isn't for everyone just like windows isn't for everyone either. Make sure you carefully read how to clean your nano display, I heard so many stories of people who ruined that coating because they thought they could clean the screen with their usual screen cleaning products which isn't a good idea.
I have exact mouse. Black one is better, because after some time, it will get yellowish from your skin. Black will be better. But mouse itself is perfect.
Just remember that little Mac charger is smaller because it outputs way less actual power. Love the vids man, hope you can get comfy with the mac, they are great for editing!
Hi Bricksie , Great unboxing !! ( Shift + Option + K = ) . My first Apple was 25 years ago when I bought the second gen. iMac ( the gumball ) mine was Lime !! I have not regretted it one bit ( or byte !! ) Before that I was into MS-Dos and the latest Op-Sys that I had was 3.2 ( a few years before Windows ) . I got back into computing in 1999 and have had a Mac ever since . As I write this I am using a MacBook Pro 1st gen Retina 15" and it is over 12 years old !! My other Mac is a Mini hooked up to a TV . You will learn as you go , in a couple of months you will be looking to upgrade all your computers to Mac - OS . Logitech makes some of the best mice out there , good choice . I am 'ole school ' and use a trackball !! . Good luck , I can already tell this will be great for you . Take care , Dreamer
Love the MX 3s, I have a 2s, and a 3s, been using them for Years, It also allows you to switch between computers with the 3 presets, and as an IT guy, I use all 3 presets, Work computer, Home computer, 1 monitor, I know tons of coders switched to mac for coding, but looking forward to what your experience, I've been linux/windows for years as well.
I use all you have mentioned, in fact the master mx with gold was the original. There is hardly no difference. The original is made of better quality materials and actually feels more solid. More so, in the sales, I bought it for on the uk £35. However, this top spec one sells for £70+ during a sales. Twice as much and with minimal improvement.
I am windows user at work and mac+windows user at home. There are pros and cons for both. But I cannot function without either. I must have both to do all tasks. Mac has awesome build quality, reliability and performance, far exceeding Intel processors. I used to have ipads but they are useless outside of basic stuff.
Can you do a video on settings you've done to make it work for you please?. I think it will be useful for others, especially for those Windows users coming to the Mac OS.
I have a ge76 raider gaming computer screen I’d 17.6 inches lol: I thought that was small lol . But I just the m4 as well excited to see what it’s about
Tip: command key and tab to switch between programs. Tip: command key and Q to shut down program. Sometimes file extensions may have to be converted. Finder is your friend get to know it. Apple are very low maintenance more of appliance than computer.
Congrats!! I bought my 14" 14core M4 pro last week and now Im thinking of upgrading my ram and storage and dare I say the screen size to 16". How long did it take from the time you ordered to the time it arrived at the Apple store?? Thanks and Cheers from Ontario!
Hope it’s going well man - I bought a external dock for my MacBook so it has both Ethernet and regular USB connections, pretty handy! Yooo from Scotland 🏴
Hi, could you make a video about how the battery health of the MacBook Pro ages? I'm thinking about buying one and I'm wondering if it's worth paying so much, if the battery loses health in a year by using the laptop with two external monitors, plugged in most of the time...etc. That is, what is done with a laptop with Windows and we know that the battery degrades a lot
Be careful of using those cheap hubs in lieu of decent thunderbolt dock as they have. Reputation of frying the power components inside your Mac! A decent dock also has an Ethernet connection plus loads of ports , I’ve got the Caldigit plus ta4 not cheap but brilliant good luck with the new toy
Welcome to MAC. As far as laptops go, none better. My last one lasted me from 2014-2024 lol. I'm not editing or doing anything wild, just R for my data projects. Every 5 years upgrade is better than what I did, but you don't need much for my workload tbh these days (most compute is done server-side).
😅 Sounds like Ethernet is not that big of a deal, uploading depends on RUclips’s servers’ bandwidth, as long as your wifi isn’t a bottleneck, I doubt Ethernet will make a difference, but having the adapter can be handy for some random tasks. Maybe you add a NAS or use other latency sensitive services. ⚡️Also the thunderbolt/usb c ports on Mac can be used for charging as well, so no need to use the MagSafe cable, just usb c cables for traveling is nice.
Saw the clip of you rendering and it looks like you’re using the H.264 Codec, and you thought it was quick. Tip: If you switch to the Apple ProRes Codec, it’ll be even quicker. It’s optimized for your machine more than H.264. Not an expert, but I’d give it a try and see what you think. Cheers!
Nice MacBook dude! I wonder how fast the 4K rendering in DaVinci is vs Mac’s own Final Cut Pro on Apple Silicon. (Final Cut Pro was great on the old days (2009-2012 for me. lol). Would be cool to see if DaVinci is optimized as good for Mac. Hope it works great for you man, I’m sure once you master it you’ll enjoy it!

Okay. But my 2011 Macbook Pro has magnetic charging.
It is nice to see an honest unboxing where someone else struggled with the changeover from Windows to MAC, but once you get it down it is really easy.

Good choice. I have the 16inch M2 Pro MacBook. I was gonna buy a M4 but I'll wait until M5 comes with the OLED screens before I upgrade.
You can record your screen - Cmd+Shift+5 ;)
Love the MX 3s, I have a 2s, and a 3s, been using them for Years, It also allows you to switch between computers with the 3 presets, and as an IT guy, I use all 3 presets, Work computer, Home computer, 1 monitor,
I know tons of coders switched to mac for coding, but looking forward to what your experience, I've been linux/windows for years as well.
Just to add the mac book air is probably more for value of money and considering it's going to have M4 in like 2 to 3 months time.
Can you do a video on settings you've done to make it work for you please?. I think it will be useful for others, especially for those Windows users coming to the Mac OS.
I have a ge76 raider gaming computer screen I’d 17.6 inches lol: I thought that was small lol . But I just the m4 as well excited to see what it’s about
I have that MX Master mouse that you purchased as well. The one for Mac also works on Windows as well.
I would order the mouse in black and return the white one.
To do a right click press the track pad with two fingers. Doing a right click on the app in the dock will allow you to hide the app. 😊
Yeah you bet, thanks 😃
Good luck !. 🙏🤞 !.
Tip: command key and tab to switch between programs. Tip: command key and Q to shut down program. Sometimes file extensions may have to be converted. Finder is your friend get to know it. Apple are very low maintenance more of appliance than computer.
Cool video!
you dont have to minimize windows. Just swipe with 4 finger gesture between the desktops. I use windows also this way
Congrats!! I bought my 14" 14core M4 pro last week and now Im thinking of upgrading my ram and storage and dare I say the screen size to 16".
How long did it take from the time you ordered to the time it arrived at the Apple store??
Thanks and Cheers from Ontario!
20:33 What does it matter that there's no usb-C? I though thunderbolt can connect that?
Hope it’s going well man - I bought a external dock for my MacBook so it has both Ethernet and regular USB connections, pretty handy! Yooo from Scotland 🏴
Congrats with your new MacBook😃👍 When the charger is green, it is fully charged. There are also 1 red update icon on the right side😜😇
Damn they charge you for bags in Canada? At my store they’re free even though other places charge for bags we don’t
i wonder if only the nano texture screen comes with this screen protector cloth, or if all of the M4 MacBook's come with them?
I'm a window user as well and planning to buy MacBook pro, even its expensive, I will try to save money and buy pro version.
Same experience with me in Calgary bought a 3.5k laptop and lady asked me if I need a bag, like really 😑
It's not "standard USB"...its old USB, that's why they don't have it.
They're all standard. They don't have A because it doesn't support thunderbolt and takes up too much space. A,B and C are all standard.
You need a dock. About £300 quid in the uk.
good option the transition will be easy
Welcome to MAC. As far as laptops go, none better. My last one lasted me from 2014-2024 lol. I'm not editing or doing anything wild, just R for my data projects. Every 5 years upgrade is better than what I did, but you don't need much for my workload tbh these days (most compute is done server-side).
So that's what you purchased. Nice
⚡️Also the thunderbolt/usb c ports on Mac can be used for charging as well, so no need to use the MagSafe cable, just usb c cables for traveling is nice.
just so you know, there's plenty non mac laptops that has simple and light weight chargers, just not magnetic
Cheers!
Nice, thank you, I'll try that!
What happened to your Canadian Post strike video? Get attacked for being a class traitor - again - perhaps? 😂
I'll stick to making videos on lego lol
How do you plan to work between both ecosystems now?
Hey , what's editing software you use for your youtube videos?
Nice MacBook dude! I wonder how fast the 4K rendering in DaVinci is vs Mac’s own Final Cut Pro on Apple Silicon. (Final Cut Pro was great on the old days (2009-2012 for me. lol). Would be cool to see if DaVinci is optimized as good for Mac.
Hope it works great for you man, I’m sure once you master it you’ll enjoy it!
Based on the research i did, the Davinci render times were actually faster. I'm pretty good on Davinci now... I am thinking about switching again haha
@ Bricksie Returns Channel is a go!
@@pietermonnier Haha no, no I am thinking of switching to Final Cut, I won't be returning this laptop, I have given it a lot of thought haha
How do you make it where the apps don’t jump. I would like to do that but don’t know how😂
You don't need to minimize once you learn how to utilize "Spaces".
Lots of uTube instruction videos on Macs. You can find an answer to practically any question you might have.
