You’re the first right-handed turner I have seen run the lathe clockwise. Nice. I like your videos. I learn a lot from you. Great control, nice design and proportions on your pieces, high quality all around. Please keep posting. Thanks.
very nice video, i appreciate the way that you present your projects. I like the way you use the reverse direction on lathe. I also would appreciate links to suck chuck and drill. thank you charles green

I love turning Ash. Here in the US, many of our Ash stands have been decimated by the Emeral Ash Borror. Such a tragedy. We still have two healthy Ash trees in our yard. The Ash that grows around here is called Green Ash. The wood is bit darker than what you are working with, but has the same straight parallel grain when quarter sawn. I also love ash crotch wood. Your instruction and demonstration on platter turning was very informative and helpful, thanks.
Hi Ronald, Lies. Congrats with your 1000+ subscribers! Well done. Again a nice video. Not only the making of the platters (with and without the SuckChuck) was very interesting, also the footage, Lies. Very nice camera work. Great tip to do the push cut for a nicer finish. Let me also give it a go. Btw, I’ve ran out of mother in laws but the last project, was very well received by other family mebers! Cheers, __Frank
Ash is such a lovely wood to turn , we here in northern Ontario, Canada have a dark ash called black ash , or swamp ash that is similar. One of my favourites to turn .
Platters is one thing I'm thinking of making to see if they sell. I having been woodworking in 3 years because I had no way to get the proper wood stock. This past winter I figured out how to get the right stock. Now, back to woodworking!
Hi Ronald. (I’ve made purchases from your shop. Nice to put a face to a name.) Nice to see the two different techniques. That center pin is a clever addition to a vacuum chuck. When I was taking a course in Maine last year, we a sort of guide stick to help center platters, but there was no real control - only patience and a steady hand. And Thanks for the tip on reversing direction for that climb cut. Clever. Cheers from Paris.
Mr. Kanne, haven’t seen anything new in a while. I hope everything is going well for my favourite RUclips wood turner. Greetings and best wishes from Canada 🇨🇦.
Hi Concreteland, everything is well on this side. Thanks for asking. We haven't done much videoing due to to loads of commisioned work. But soon there will be a new video... a winecooler...😊
Dank voor deze uitleg. Met name de uitleg over richting van de nerf. Ik ga morgen gelijk kijken bij de stukken walnoot die ik heb liggen of ze geschikt zijn . Frank.
Yet another inspirational vid and yet more questions. Read all the comments to see if the answer is there but no not this time. On your push cut you change direction on your lathe but if someone's lathe only goes one way does that mean the Turner needs to change sides to achieve a push cut or would you recommend not doing this as it could stop access to the stop button. PS love how you explain how to do if you don't have all the new or latest gizmos.
Great demo, I use a face plate with thick neoprene on it, which works well. You get a great finish off the tool, what grinds do you use? And what sharpening system? Keep up the great work, I'm sure it wont be long before you reach 10,000 subscribers, you come across as a honest, caring sort of guy.
The small gouge is a sort of 45/45 gouge with the bevel heel grinded away. I sharpen it on a Tormek with CBN. Settings i will tell later... Thank you for the compliment. The last 3 words are right. :-)
I just recently found your channel and found it to be very informative. When doing your platers, how do you determine the size of the rim on the front and the foot on the bottom?
Hi Peter, unless i am given a drawing i don't measure or determine anything... a platter needs a steay wide foot, and the rim i do by eye...just what i like...
It still surprises me that people have sliding headstock lathes and they don't use the slide so you are on a short bed lathe rather than on a long bed lathe. Maybe because that is the reason I bought my first sliding headstock lathe.....
Hoi Kees, dank. Waarom je de pomp niet hoort is denk ik omdat de pomp heel weinig geluid maakt... :-) Het is een vacuüm pomp van Gast. Ik zou 'm eens op de site moeten zetten eigenlijk... :-)
I enjoy your demos but get frustrated when you use tool you had made or had made for you. That means I cannot replicate what you make.. Your salt shaker gave me a great idea how to make my own version. Thank you. Why is the woman always interrupting you?
En....weer wat geleerd vandaag. Dank Ronald.
graag gedaan!
You make it look so easy. I feel like I am in school every time I watch one of your videos. Thanks for sharing
Haha! Thank you Garth. I wouldn't mind feeling like that. I had a great time at school! 🙂
Zoals we inmiddels gewend zijn van Lies en jou, leuke instructie film. Wacht al op de volgende.
Nice plates - and the disembodied voice in the background is cool too!

I like the 'suck chuck'! Very good video ... Thank you!
I love your suck-chuck - very useful! Finding quartersawn blanks is quite difficult, unless you have your own supplier.
Nice plates! Where can you get that suck chuck?
Really like some of the camera work getting views that help understand the tool positions …
Eet smakelijk 😋 leuke film
Dank je wel Henk!

Great video, thanks both of you, for sharing your skills and enthusiasm 👍
Oh, and where in the UK can we buy your crush grind drill?
I think axminster will have the same sort of drill made by Woodcut... search for mill drill.
@@ronaldkanne many thanks
do you have any info on the "suck chuck" ? looks like a cool thing
Very useful it is yes. We made it ourselves. I know Hager in Germany also makes one. But don't google suckchuck to find it...🙂
Great videos. Just found your channel. What make and model of sanding drill ate you using. Great job.
Hi Dave and Cubdy,
That is a Makita DA3011F. (Sorry for the slow answer...)
Hi Ronald
I am a woodturning instructor in Canada and really enjoy your entertaining videos.
where can I get a suckchuck ? keep turning
Ronald, What is the price of the pepper mill drill? Include shipment to Melbourne Australia please.

What vacuum (suck) chuck is that? Never saw one like it. Like it.
It is home made.....
@@ronaldkanne very nice. I need to redo my flat chuck. The spring pin is genius.

I like your videos, but please put links to the products you are showing, like the suckchuck and the pepper drill.
I put in a few now Erik. But this vacuum chuck was specially made for me, I don't think it is commercially available. But if somebody knows...
