This performance was recorded live at Collegiate Chorale's Spring Tour Homecoming Concert on April 19, 2016 in the Center for Faith and Life at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa.

I've always found that the most powerful Zulu hymns are the most basic ones where very little is said. Just so beautiful.
This is an isiXhosa hymn, if I am not mistaken?

It's Zulu. Subtle differences.
Zulu = Indodana
Xhosa = Unyana
Zulu = kaNkulunkulu
Xhosa = kaThixo
Zulu = Baba
Xhosa = Bawo
Zulu = Bayibethelela
Xhosa = Bayixhomelela
Unfortunately the people who arrange African music are not Africans and therefore may write and supply incorrect information.
@@georgedebruin6111 This is Zulu, however many words are interchangeable bewtween these two languages. In urban settings it is normal for one to construct a sentence having used both Zulu and Xhosa words .
@@reetha_xmacholo8331 That is incorrect, this is Zulu which may sound the same as Xhosa to a non native speaker of either. @Sabelo Mthembu just provided concise explanation. In urban setting, it is normal for people to use the words of either language interchangeably while speaking either of the 2 languages. Urban Xhosa uses a lot of Zulu words as colloquial and vice versa.
I cannot stop listening to this piece. The vocals are amazing and touch my heart.
I simply cannot get enough of this beautiful performance, and the great song. I am split between Luther College and Stellenbosch University for the best choir!!!!😇
Also listen to this as done by Ndlovu Youth Choir and the MSU (Missouri State University) Chorale on their South African tour. Both are powerful and musically excellent, but different.
Excuse me, Stellenbosch Choir are vastly superior. Don't forget there are many of them singing in their Mother tongue. Not so in this choir.

I am inlove with the interpretation, fantastic conductor and a great chorus. I JUST LOVE THE MUSICALITY OF THIS CHOIR
Actual meaning: "The Lord God has taken his son who dwelt among us. The son of God was crucified." So it is both a lament and a reason for sober thankgiving to Father God.
The dancer spoils everything!
Ridiculous. A good expressive dancer with good interpretation to good choreography. If you don't like the dancer, close your eyes and listen. How does it spoil it? Only if she were a bad amateur who could do nothing.
That silence at the end shows how beautiful this was regardless of the conductors hands did not come down. Bravo.
Proud South African in the house. They killed it guys, the dancer is distracting though but gives the performances a nice expression of distress .

It is not about the skill of the dancer - she is skilled at interpreting the music, but it is about the appropriateness of the song in general - this is a hymn about Jesus being crucified on the cross and his father taking him to heaven - not exactly a dance moment, even if she is trying to portray loss.
Betty Ann German I understand and acknowledge your point Betty. I believe that the dancer is interpreting the loss of the people who followed Christ after he died on the cross. The song is talking about our Jesus dying on the cross as you stated. I don’t think she was interpreting Jesus or God, I think she was interpreting the people suffering from the loss of Jesus and how they felt. I think the dancer was a beautiful addition to this song making it that much better.

I'm Xhosa (the language of the song) and I can tell you now that there was no room for the contemporary dancing in this song.
The lady is a great dancer, just not for this song.

The dancer destracts from the overall feeling of the choir, I'm a competitive dancer and my choir makes superiors every year at state and I'm not saying she's bad I'm saying the two things don't fit together especially with the skill of the choir.

Wonderful, musical performance of this amazing piece. I'm sure the dancer is very good, but I personally found her addition to this particular piece to be very distracting, and the dance movements didn't seem to really sync with the piece.

The dancer is very out of place and kind of tacky im not saying she isnt good she faboulous and one of the best dancers ive seen but it dossnt go with this kind of music and she just kind of takes away from the over all look.. But she adds a lot of emotion which i dont really see in a lot of choir which i love seeing time to time but great work!!
I hear nothing in this that sounds remotely close to the distinct Xhosa sound. Makes me wonder if an actual Xhosa culture bearer was consulted.

The song is meant to be a lullaby to a child of the village... The dancer seems like she's trying to make it a song about loss or sadness... but it's not. And even if it was, she just looks kinda ridiculous; bad move by the director
