    I have to say it's a lot more fun for me to watch you deal with your snow than dealing with ours, when it snows here.

    When I set up our off grid cabin, I set it up with a water tank above the kitchen so that if our pump ever goes out, we still have gravity fed water in the cabin.

    Country livin! I had to break out the candles and water jugs a couple times this past season. The sights of spring are right around the corner.

    You are well set up for the outage. I'd love to see a video tour of your rain collection, cistern, and filtration/treatment to get the bird poop out of your drinking water. Perhaps a 12v immersion pump running on one of those power stations would be enough for drinking water during one of the brief power outages.

    Fabulous snow. Very rarely does it fall so deep in the UK & most people here hate snow, but it is so pretty, pure & sledge ready that I love it. Several years ago we got an electric splitter to save my back but it is rare we lose power. I still enjoy seeing flames in the wood burner & it’s a nice heat to have. Thanks for sharing!

    Been 3 weeks without power here once in West Virginia and after that I'm taking a lot of precautions to last the least a month and a half without power this year I'm going to install a propane toilet go to wood burning stove we got to finish up, and portable cook stoves.

    I live in the south side of the Denver metro area and we got a little over 24 inches of snow with this storm (and yes, the power went out for a few hours one day). I was glad that you brought up Nichole, the wood chopper (she's great), but I don't think she would come down from BC to help out. Okey Dokey!

    We invested in a home generator, it's great power's the whole house we have outages a lot in the wintertime. When I got older I bought a log spliter, saves on my back. I know what your going through John be careful. Stay safe.

      I agree, propane whole house generator was the hardests $14,000 I've ever spent but, after the 2nd 10hr outage in the first year, money well spent.

    Something like Ecoflow has somereally great options for backup power supplies, they even offer units that can cover your whole home, recharge on a gas generator, or solar or wind. I use one of their units in our van we live in it full-time, haven't needed to plug into a power source for 5 years.
    Anyway...
    Good seeing you, RUclips keeps changing the algorithm, and I miss your notifications, glad I got ya back...
    God bless...

    You had mentioned in the past that you had a welder/generator at the blacksmith shop . Could you set that up at the house to run the water pump and other things in the house?

    • @JohnSwitzer
      @JohnSwitzer  4 месяца назад

      It's been sold. But it could have been used that way if it wasn't too much trouble to move from one place to the other, especially in the snow.

    . . . I know you know this, but for those watching who aren't as familiar, if you fill the toilet tank instead of dumping right in the bowl it uses way less water. . .

    • @JohnSwitzer
      @JohnSwitzer  5 месяцев назад

      Wow, thats a lot longer than we were without power and your only a mile or so away. The little power stations are a battery with an inverter that puts out buth 12 volt and 120 volt power. They come in different sizes and several companies make them. here is a link to one of the ones I have jackery.sjv.io/OrmYkn

      @@JohnSwitzer I inherited a gas generator from my brother, but I'm not strong enough to get it started with the pull started. I was thinking that one of those battery stations might be enough to get the generator started. Thanks for the link John.
