Pouring molten aluminum into liquid nitrogen and dry ice are my most requested videos, so today you finally get to see what happens!
Thanks to FLIR for sending me a real thermal camera to use in my videos, heres the camera I used bit.ly/FLIRONE.
Please wear protective gear lol
Ok I will if you can beat me 1v1 ;)
Hi ninja, my whole class thinks tfue is better than you
ninja is correct you should follow his directions
NINJA???
Lol HOW U HAVE 7 LIKES IN UR COMMENT WOW NEVER EXPECTED U HERE
I bet every time his neighbours hear the "hey guys backyard scientist here" they immediately go into the bomb shelter
lol
Lol 😂
😂😂
lol
lol that’s hilarious
The chim or hum of the tin on the dry ice is due to the moment of the molecules in the dry ice. The metal is a solid and will not become any more solid then the state it's in the atoms are interlocked perfectly. The dry ice however is fluctuating between a solid and a gas (all but missing the liquid stage) this results in the atoms moving so fast under a pressure (the tin) it begins to resonate resulting in the sound.
Only a few years late on this but just for those who wanted to know.
This will happen with any solid material put on dry ice with pressure. We do the same thing between petri dishes in the lab I work in when we get a shipment that contains dry ice.
Portia Baskerville THANK YOU 🙏🏻
Youuuu answered my question. Thank you.
Was looking for this. Many thanks.
Was gonna like ur comment but it’s at 69 so we’ll keep it there
Good job for being smart (not being sarcastic)
Excellent experiments, and a big like for the chiming tin

it's mutant grass.
Its fake lol :)
Fun Fact, infrared can't penetrate through glass, it acts like a mirror instead! so if your robbing a bank bring a large sheet of glass to hide from the chopper.
What would you do with an infrared camera?
I would see how hot a average dickhead would be
+Theboss123 that's the most random comment I've seen today.
Whelp I was on my way to Robb a back to thanks
+Theboss123 compare the heat of erect vs. non erect
I would go ahead and tie it to a drone and fly it around
The tin chiming on the dry ice was EASILY the coolest thing I've seen in regards to metallurgy. I would never have known about it if not for this video!
+Freeze Dried Girolles I once read that Antimony does the same when it's cooling, but almost nowhere else mentions this.
+Freeze Dried Girolles It's called twinning. It can happen with pure rods when you bend them, also. The crystal structure is such that it will actually mirror itself when put under stress, which also makes it harden in the area of effect.
+Freeze Dried Girolles It also explains the phrase "tin ear" or "tinnitus" which I had wondered about until I watched this video. We certainly sometimes get a ringing in our ear that sounds just like that.
+GhOsT ID Actually "tin" is Zinn in German (pronounced: tseenn), but "tin" in Dutch too. Its Latin name is "stannum".
+CoolKoon no, you just say tin in Dutch
Neat, a reverse leidenfrost effect.
hey
dude I love your vids
I was going to say the same thing
+NightHawkInLight Yep, the same thing has occurred to me when I've gotten to the part where aluminium slid off of the dry ice block too.....
I was looking for this comment, I searhed for it longer than I should.
woah!! that chiming noise was actually really unexpected and cool! nice vid :p
before the chiming noise it sounded like the dry ice and tin made a farting sound! 2:18
Kayotik have you seen the drunk rabbit
2:23 Now that is straight up a game sound effect right there
Sounds like the wispmother from skyrim
It sounds like minecraft when u pickup xp
That chiming sound was the most unexpected thing I've seen in years
Especially given that you should have heard it, not seen it. Pretty unexpected, and impressive indeed.
Woah you saw it?
Ah America. You can't buy chocolate covered toys, but you can buy dry ice at your local convenience store xD
dumbass it isnt in the usa

+Sleek Gaming you said "dumbass" so you are American. United States the "greatest " nation in the universe! No, maybe not, just the most pretentious and arrogant people in the universe.
Dry ice isn't marketed towards small children.
Soundscrap someone is mad cause they cant aford the US
somehow i thought the chiming was the most interesting part..
That's because it was! I was fascinated. I'll be sure to look that up later.
That was fucking awesome
CUFF, BUT
Same. It was the least expected
In Germany we call that "tin cry" and "tin pest". It happens, because the crystal layering is changing, when Tin gets to cold, below 13°C. He maybe saw this, as the lower part of his tin block turned grey instead of silver-white.
Kids in Africa could have eaten that liquid nitrogen

So aluminum and dry ice makes a sound like chipmunks talking to each other. Neat.

that chiming is so fucking odd ive never seen anything like it before. good on you for finding that
+Dragon911X thanks, it was pretty neat.
+TheBackyardScientist Probably plane twinning as the tin contracts.
+TheBackyardScientist you should make a video of tin vs dry ice now
It does sound really cool. I'd like to see a video based solely on that and what's going on.

Tbh you need a very high IQ to understand why he is wearing a Rick and Morty T-shirt.
Science relations between Rick and Morty and the real world.
And also, Rick is basically a scientist and Morty is his assistant. It is a common occurence for scientists to have assistants to help the scientists with their work and experimentations.
Kendrick Hight TBH?
You need a low iq to judge people based on their preference of a show made for high people.
Ah, this is a fun one I just recently explored. The reason the molten Aluminum slides off of the surface of the ice is due to what is called the Leidenfrost Effect. Effectively, the dry ice is creating a buffer of gas between it's solid state and the liquid Aluminum, allowing the metal to float right off of it. And it also explains the volcano effect, where the gas is pushing its way through the molten metal. You can see the same effect if you heat up a pot and drop water droplets into it. The reason they don't instantly vaporize, is due to this same effect. You can actually see the same effect when he pours the liquid nitrogen onto the molten aluminum, how the liquid nitrogen floats around on the surface. Pretty neat stuff.
The chiming is so cool. And soothing!
I love the way liquid metal looks
Like the T1000??
“What is it hot?”
“It’s cold. Damn cold!”
Oh, how the entropy increases in the universe!
Still not hotter than my mixtape
Bullshit

Yea that last part is obvious.
could you upload that sound at 2:25 for me to use without you talking ? i'm in love with it !!!
and at 4:08 as well btw
Sound designer spotted! I was actually thinking how melodic it sounds as I was looking through the video and was telling myself I should extract this somehow and sample it for potential music projects haha!
I love that sound. I want a soundtrack of it to just listen to all day. I'd pay a few bucks for an mp3 of chiming tin :D
I'll let you know if I extracted it somehow and got my hands on it, maybe you'll make good music out of it too! xD
+Eyad Saqqa please upload it

Adrian Cantar no
John Connor: So this other guy: he's a Terminator like you, right?
The Terminator: Not like me. A T-1000, advanced prototype.
John Connor: You mean more advanced than you are?
The Terminator: Yes. A mimetic polyalloy.
John Connor: What the hell does that mean?
The Terminator: Molten Aluminum.

Magicalmoose4213 Hi and where you can't drink alcohol until you 21 but can own a machine gun at 16
Not sure what universe your version of America is in, since machine guns are NFA weapons and incredibly hard to get. And are illegal to own if not registered before May 19, 1986.

This is one of the only “science experiment” channels that actually does science experiments and doesn’t just destroy iPhones.
You have earned yourself a like and a subscriber.
Actually when u think about it, the reaction from liquid nitrogen and molten aluminum is almost like when oil meets water. They always have to be separate, the only difference is the type of matter and how dry ice and molten aluminum has a more explosive and vigorous reaction than oil and water.
Soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo satisfiying
It’s dry ice 😑
you are downright reckless with your safety in this video... honestly, i couldn't care less if you end up severely injuring yourself, but please try and set a good example for others by treating liquid nitrogen with the respect it deserves.
+GReaperEx Temperature has a lot less to do with the dangers of liquid nitrogen. It has a lot more to do with accidental spillage - which everyone is capable of regardless of how awesome they think they are. The liquid nitrogen is way less viscous than molten metal, so it is much easier to accidentally get places you didn't intend it to. If you're trying to say that he needs to be more safe with molten aluminum too, I wouldn't disagree, but I wouldn't agree if you're trying to imply that molten aluminum is more dangerous simply because its temperature differential from ambient is greater than that of liquid nitrogen.
+GameMechanic.tv Liquid Nitrogen is exactly -273°C. Its not colder, not warmer. It is EXACTLY -273°C
+GameMechanic.tv Agreed, I was cringing every time he touched something with his bare hands.
+Kevin Malone I was most worried about the poor dog wandering around, it's one thing for him to risk his own eyesight/limbs/life but risking the dog's is bordering on criminal. AFAIK US animal welfare laws are fairly strict so it's kinda stupid to have even posted it.
+GameMechanic.tv Glad I'm not the only one to notice. My god he is wreckless with this stuff. Like you, if he knows the risks and does it anyway that's up to him, but making no effort to explain the dangers involved should anyone try this after watching it is downright irresponsible.

+meep moop 2 YOU AGAIN!
That transition at the beginning is under appreciated
You've done how many experiments like this, yet you're still surprised by the Leidenfrost effect?
the squeaking was driving my dogs crazy
Ah,Leidenfrost's Effect,but reversed
Do i spell it right?
But Leidenfrost's effect is based on extremely different temperature
And well, hot or cold liquid is bounced off from cold or solid object
Hope it's explains all
regardless it's still the leidenfrost effect.
Pokes molten allumimium with bare finger. Is suprised alluminium that has been sitting on dry ice is frozen. Priceless channel.
“Oh look at that it’s like uh-OWW!” 😂💀
"Liquid nitrogen is -320 degrees Fahrenheit."
In Canada this is also known as "summer."
What happens if u mix liquid nitrogen and dry ice together and then pour molten alumin am
The end of the world
a blackhole appears
Nahid Ahmed the liquid nitrogen would vaporize like it usually does because dry ice is still much hotter than liquid nitrogen
Nahid Ahmed then you END up with Nitrogen gas and colder dry ice.
You should pour molten aluminum in a fire ant mount then dig it up
Excellent demo guys, not as spectacular as the molten salt in water. And demonstrates the exact opposite reaction, because as you say, they could not mix fast enough to get dramatic.
And using carbon dioxide to make foamy aluminum is routine product, really kool stuff...

Wow!!! That shot from 2:50-3 was a work of art! At one point it was like one of those high speed drop of water into a puddle of water that that one guy patented except it was way cooler because the aluminum was bubbling and popping drops up out of it and back into it! If that makes sense LOL too bad you didn’t make this video before “Terminator 2” came out with T-1000, because you would’ve made millions off of the producers that would have paid you to use your shots in the film!
Leidenfrost action here!
For those of you wondering why is it just slipping off... It's because of the Leidenfrost Effect. You're welcome :)
When molten Antimony cools, the same cool pinging noises occur due to the crystals cooling and breaking and bouncing around. You should check out that phenomenon!
It is very dangerous that most of the time your hand is not protected
+LOK Chu Perhaps because of the molten aluminium, but if he gets liquid nitrogen on his hand it doesn't really matter. It will boil and provide a protective layer of CO2 but his hand will be okay. However, if he has some kind of protective glove he could spill some liquid nitrogen on his arm which would flow into the glove, and that would be very bad...
I wanna be just like him when I get older, fuck up stuff and get paid for it!
i do that now!! but i dont get paid.....
Upload those videos you've made on your RUclips channel then wait .
More viewers you have more money you will get paid !!
+Me Eng And the faster you're channel will grow based on the RUclips suggested system.
is it just me or is this guy not as safe with liquid nitrogen as he should be?
I just found out that liquid nitrogen evaporates upon contact with skin so he's in no immediate danger
cause of the liedenfrost effect
in the original manga its uzumaki naruto not naruto uzumaki
John Smith you are just full of facts lol
Liquid nitrogen isn't as dangerous as a lot of people make it out to be.
All this and I’m still thinking about that cute little lizard at the beginning 😍
This is how much time he said dry ice
👌
That's like a reversed Leidenfrost effect .
what time?
+NinjaBoii_NB Basically 90% of the video
how is it reverse
Normally you pour liquid to a surface that is hottter, here you pour liquid on a colder surface, so that's why it's reversed.
No it's just Leidenfrost effect, it's not called reverse, that's part of it.
“OW! yep, I deserved that” *I’m dying*
You can only do this wearing a Rick and Morty t-shirt
Leidenfrost effect maybe...
