A friend of mine guarded hess about 1964 in the US army. Hess didn't even communicate with guards at this time but Albert Speer was very conversant. My friend would sneak pizza and various beverages to Speer.
@Barry Baz my friend was Johann Lang. Born in braunsweig Germany after WW2. At 5years old his family emigrated to Detroit where his father worked for GM. After guarding at Spandau prison he served a year in Viet Nam where he was awarded multiple silver and bronze star decorations for combat.

My Brother guarded Hess at Spandau 1986. I remeber it being so interesting listening to his stories during his time there at Spandau. If anyone reads this who was there in 1986 - early 1987, it would be awesome to hear from you.

The suspicion about the 1987 suicide is Hess wasn't physically able to fix the noose and he wasn't left unguarded outdoors. As a child I lived in a block of flats, married quarters, just up the road from Spandau Prison I believe it was guarded in rotation by the Americans Russians and British this must have been 1946/7. We left when the Russians blockaded the roads and the Airlift started

Burt Hulbert Rudolf Hess had arthritis and couldn't even tie his own shoes by the 80s. A nurse testified that he couldn't even raise his hands above his head but he somehow this frail old man tied a noose and hung himself?
What they did to hess was terrible. They didn't even give him a chance to change. Could have given him parole or something, like what's he going to do? Plus, politics were way different than the 40s, so not many people would have cared. Also, he's served his term correctly, unlike the others who were extroverted and out going . He served his time.

Also, I think it is rather a telling sign that he distinguishes his guard as a "black" man guards me now. Only a person indoctrinated into the belief of a super race - could not simply distinguish that a "man" a human being guarded him. Why bring up the racial distinction?

I didn't even know the whole story about Hess until a few days ago. I certainly didn't know that he didn't die until 1987.

Did a 10 day guard duty at Spandau in the 80s i think it was in 1985/6, only caught a glimpse of his back - bored as hell.
