I’m 60 now I was 11 when I willed Grundy home I remember listening to him win Dewhurst on radio the year before he had tremendous courage as well as ability

This race shows what a class act the triple Ascot Gold Cup winner Sagaro was as Sagaro beat Bustino 2l in a race in France the previous season over 1m 4f a full mile short of the gold cup distance.

I think that the Grand Prix de Paris was 1m 7f in those days .
