    Oh So Sharp must be the best filly of the last 30 or so years trained in the UK. To win the guineas against class opposition, trounce a proven group 1 performer in Triptych in the Oaks who proved herself over and over again a top middle distance filly on soft ground, which this oaks was run on. To then have enough stamina to win a Leger makes her quite remarkable. Cauthen said she was the best fully he rode and he blamed himself for her defeat in the King George on unsuitable ground. To do it once is fab but to do it over and over again is what earns the real respect. What could she have done as a four year Old? Her early season form at 3 was exceptional.

    Oh So Sharp remains our last triple crown winner while Nijinsky in 1970 was the last to win the colts version. Flat racing had more credibility then; without the multitude of group 1 races at 8 & 10 furlongs, top class horses had to prove themselves over a variety of distances.

    • @fckem1000
      @fckem1000 4 года назад +1

      You don't know what you're on about. Are you trying to say they didn't have equally the number of Group 1 races over 8 & 10f back in the 70's? Breeders don't want St Leger winners these days, well not unless they want a NH sire. Top class horses still have to prove themselves over a variety of distances, it increases their stud value 8-12f is where the money is.

    Fantastic horse - irrelevant which one was the best - there are too many and I only back them; I don't train them or ride them. James Delahooke (he found Dancing Brave) once told me the best horse he had seen was Dancing Brave (including Secretariat, Brigadier Gerard, Mill Reef etc) until Frankel turned up.

    GG missed the call in the Guineas: you can hear the surprise in his voice when he sees the freeze frame. The funny thing about OSS's triple crown was that the race against the colts was the one with the weakest field.

      @@fckem1000 In fact many winners of the first two legs of the British Classic nowadays have been pretty reluctant to run in the St Leger mainly because of the commercial reasons on breeding industry.

    she beat Triptych 3 times, same as Dancing Brave and she beat her further, DB slightly over rated, OSS vastly under rated

  • @mikerainham
    @mikerainham 13 лет назад +1

    I think oh so sharp was slightly overated, just won the guineas and although impressive in the oaks lost next 2 races before winning a sub standard St leger. I think pebbles was a better filly personally.

    • @marilyncatterall402
      @marilyncatterall402 6 лет назад +1

      Both were exceptional, and won great races. For what it's worth, Cauthen rode both, and he rated OSS as the best filly he ever rode.

    • @jabhookjabcross4231
      @jabhookjabcross4231 5 лет назад +3

      Under rated but definitely not over rated. She is largely forgotten and yet she was a triple crown winner. However good pebbles was, and she put up some exceptional performances, she didn't win a triple crown. Oh so sharp never raced after three and her two defeats at three were both on ground that was against her in races that cauthen blamed himself for her getting beaten.
      If she had raced at four I think we would have seen some outstanding performances. How far did she best triptych in the oaks on ground that favoured triptych? Triptych is a very good yardstick as well as a long proven top filly.
      Pebbles failed to perform at a high level in many races. Oh so sharp didn't.
      Interestingly they are both related. Sharpen up is the sire of pebbles and the sire of Kris, the sire of oh so sharp!
      I don't think there was much between the two and they are both great fillies but I do come down in favour of oh so sharp, in line with cauthen and there is absolutely no way she is over rated!
