Came here to say just that. I imagine the torque is down quite a bit without the flux concentrating through the case. On top of which I bet the ground is not passing enough current either.
Yeah I meant to talk about that in the part in the video where I mentioned about the transparent plastic case and the ground, but I forgot and I didn't think it would make that much of a difference, it made a huge difference. I'm positive if I would have pulled the injectors out of the diesel it would have still spun it but that was way too much work as you could imagine. The magnetic flux is definitely a cool subject, magnetism in general is very mesmerizing.
pretty cool bro. no thats bad a$$. pretty interesting to be able to visualize using the starting while its engaged and that o so familiar sound when the wife drives my car 😂
Very cool video! Its cool to see what's going on inside something when it's working! I didn't know there was a planetary gear system as part of the starter.
Crazy video timing. I was just watching videos on taking apart my motorcycle's starter to grease the bearings (preventative), and reading up on it. Spent about two hours doing that, made breakfast, and this video pops up. Thanks, lol.
When you pulled the magnets out of the iron case, the magnetic flux opened and the force of the magnets decreased. It is possible that even if the hull had not broken, the motor would not have been able to turn.
As a lifelong mechanic, this is very cool to see. I've never _had_ to rebuild a starter, as I've always done the re-manned swap or bought a high-perf NiB.
nostalgic to see everything I learned from school, only this time to see what's going on inside the hero starter. Great job! 3D printer is also amazing!
Fantastic Great ! i repaired a Toyota starter once, just at the electromagnet DC Connector, and cutted a piece of copper coin and soldered it on place, as this was very teared- it´s almost same load you will have when you weld, with electrodes ,and you can turn + and minus ,you will notice electrode on + you burn more into the material, and wit electrode on minus, you burn more electrode, and less into the material . Thanks for Great Video !
You did a very nice job with the form labs printing, that end cap looks like Plexiglass though LOL which is still the same material more or less.. I give you a lot of credit, lot of skill to get the fit so good. Learned something myself which I never thought about, most ALL of the torque when starting the motor is pushing against the top of the housing where it snapped off and of course a diesel engine has enormous compression.
Did you have the plugs in when you ran the plastic starter? If so then I'm not surprised it broke, but without compression it might be able to handle it...
Hey bro! Happy new year! This was a great idea for a video! I loved it! Very cool! I always wanted to know this to! The starter on my car actually went this winter n i had to buy a new 1. It costed 1500$ to get that done! But luckily i still had extended warranty on my car n so I only paid 55$.
Yeah It not only Damages the Pinion Gear, But also Causes Overheating in the Starter Solenoid, Coil, and Armature from Not being able to deploy and spin properly, Basically Increases the Overall Wear on the Starter and would lead to early Burn out of an electrical component.👍
Yes but it's the upgraded version that's going on next, I actually talked about it briefly in the video but forgot to put it in the edit 🤦♂️. I always forget something cuz I'm in a hurry.
It's awesome that we have people like this with resources, talent AND willingness to share it with the rest of us. Stellar work again.
Yeah, his patience in other videos to try, break, re-make, and try again is respectable.
The cylinder where the magnets are glued need to be metal, it's called flux ring and it improves torque and efficiency
You are right.
it contains the magnetism?

As a mechanic let me say you just added concrete proof to something people like me have been saying for decades. Well done!
Very educational. Thank you for the enormous effort you've put into this.
Cool! Thanks for taking the time to create this, film, and post it!
Always wanted to know exactly what was going on when starting the car and what the noise was coming from so this is great thanks!
2:03 older, slower rpm starters actually were as you thought it was and they are much bigger than modern starters.
pretty cool bro. no thats bad a$$. pretty interesting to be able to visualize using the starting while its engaged and that o so familiar sound when the wife drives my car 😂
sick as always
This will be a great video for auto students.
Thanks for putting in the time and effort to make the transparent parts and the slow motion video.
This is very impressive! That see thru starter looks amazing. Great work.
Your videos are the absolute best, keep them coming.
Very cool video! Its cool to see what's going on inside something when it's working! I didn't know there was a planetary gear system as part of the starter.
Yeah! I'd say it's a reduction system to reduce rpm and increase torque...?
Crazy video timing. I was just watching videos on taking apart my motorcycle's starter to grease the bearings (preventative), and reading up on it. Spent about two hours doing that, made breakfast, and this video pops up. Thanks, lol.
How much total time do you think went into that project? Seems like it was really time consuming! Thanks for your commitment to cool sh!t
You never cease to amaze Matt! You always come up with the coolest ideas.

Exactly, I meant to talk about that but I didn't think it was going to make such a huge difference..
Pretty cool. That Bendix gear that pops out is really neat.
Lot of work and a great effort - always something to be learned and thank you. :)
Love your work!
As a lifelong mechanic, this is very cool to see. I've never _had_ to rebuild a starter, as I've always done the re-manned swap or bought a high-perf NiB.
I thought it was awesome! Thanks for the work. I consider your experiment a total success.
Man, just keep doing all the crazy stuff you like to do, we will watch it with gusto!

Yes! I have wanted this for a few weeks now. Thank you! Hope it turns out.
It was perrty great. Interesting how the gear stops spinning as it engages
Very cool video! Thank you very much
It's awesome to see! I always wondered how they work.
perfect. the video I wanted to watch since years
Awesome 👌 👏 👍
Welcome back!
Nice work

great work
This guy teaches way better that MIT
Now that's incredible! I've been wondering how the starter worked since I was little. Thank you man.
Awesome footage! Thanks! 🙏
this camera is awesome
Well explained, thanks 👍.
This is great, thanks!!
Awesome perspective! I had no idea about the gear reduction system.
The science of Piezoelectric materials
One of the main reasons a starter will fail is that its gear doesn't retract after the engine is started and it will keep running with the engine.
Awesome! Next!
Awesome video!
I just changed starters in a 09 F-250 5.4L and 18 Chevy Silverado L.S. 5.3L Excellent Video
Still a good video! Thank you.
That is soooooooo cool!
Very cool!
Im the owner of starter pro's a small business focused on mobile starter replacement 😂...I was surprised to see you do this one... great job
Smashing!
We need see thru engine and trans
if you want a sneak peek watch Garage 54. I wonder what Warped Perception could to tho..
Very cool
I think of a whole bunch of things like this. Pretty amazing how some parts dont break all the time and how much certain parts can take!
Also, starters have some pretty serious power and good video. I also want a 3d printer so bad just broke, smh
This is not the most exciting subject he said. This was awesome bro, do more see through parts. I wonder if you can do a see through turbine motor.
Did you have the plugs in when you ran the plastic starter? If so then I'm not surprised it broke, but without compression it might be able to handle it...

Very interesting
A see-through video is always a like through
Cool ! I was waiting for some sparks inside the coil 😂
5:27 I know I've asked this question before, but in this recording is the audio real and maybe displaced in the sequencer, or is it all fake?
Question: were is the sUpra ?
A video series on making a complete car see-through would be insane!
What kosher model engine is that I want one.
Where is part 2 of the LED video you started?
I hope i can do these kind of things one day
Yeah It not only Damages the Pinion Gear, But also Causes Overheating in the Starter Solenoid, Coil, and Armature from Not being able to deploy and spin properly, Basically Increases the Overall Wear on the Starter and would lead to early Burn out of an electrical component.👍
cool.
This is how they need to teach in collage
Looked like the housing doubled as a bushing
What About a See-through Speaker / air conditioner?
Is that the diesel engine from the Cordless Tesla
Yes but it's the upgraded version that's going on next, I actually talked about it briefly in the video but forgot to put it in the edit 🤦♂️. I always forget something cuz I'm in a hurry.

I Craved the Strength and Certainty of Steel.
What is this?
spin the starter to maximum engine speed💯💯💥💥💥💥💥💥
Is there anything you can't do?
Boom💥
delete ur comment so i can have first ill send you 100 billion nigerian dollal
@@howmuchdoesitcost69 that's approximately $67,254 USD. Let me think about it.
Schubschraubtriebstarter
DECOMPRESSION LEVER !!!!!!!!!!!!! oh maybe that diesel doesn't have one sorry. I need a 3d printer like that !!!
This did not explain how the Bendix or one-way clutch works.
Yeah this one did not have the clutch, I was looking for that, for some reason I didn't see it maybe because it was for a diesel not sure.
This how the newer starters are being made my starter just have a motor with a single gear that goes out😊..want to switch to a brushless
yeah, but where would you put the frequency converter?
😆
@Crazy_Borg up your ass
