    Hi. Great video. Thanks.
    Did you go down to 61m on normal air? Or am I reading that screen wrong. @3:13 what does AIR in the bottom right corner mean?
    Is there a way to swap the strap for something shorter? Would D5 straps eork on the core?
    Thanks. Greetings from Munich

    • @BlackMantaPhotography
      @BlackMantaPhotography  5 лет назад +3

      Hi Stephan Grohmann - and thanks for the comment.
      Yes - you are reading that correct and yes, I was on air (21%)
      This was a fully planned decompression dive on the San Fransisco Maru. The deck is at around 55m - was had 2 12l tanks of 21%, and 2 stage tanks of 50% and 100% O2 for accelerated decompression.
      The dive was planned with a short bounce to 60m so taking into account we would be pushing 1.6PO. Total bottom time was 20 mins. Total dive time planned and actual was 90 mins.
      I’m not aware that you can buy a shorter strap for the Core, but similar to the Steel you can trim them down to the length you require.
      I’m afraid a strap for the D5 wouldn’t be compatible. Completely different fitting as the Core is a large square unit, while the D5 is a much lightweight wearable watch.
      How’s Munich? I’m actually heading to Munich next Friday for the weekend! Heading over for a friends stag do so sure many beers will be consumed! 😊🍺

    Can you customize the screen layout to show average depth on the Core and Steel?

    • @BlackMantaPhotography
      @BlackMantaPhotography  6 лет назад +1

      Thanks for the question Anders H. Andersen - both the Core and Steel show average depth in the log.
      During the dive both will show current depth and max depth but not average depth during the working dive.
      That’s my understanding anyway.
      Hope that helps, cheers.

  • @ecopsorn
    @ecopsorn 6 лет назад +1

    Great review. Another guy in a review said that vore is not as customizable as the steel. Ehat is the real difference in customizing than? You mention in the video the prominent view for the core, so does this not exist in steel?
    I’d actually like to see compass, live air consumption and of course depth and no deco time, is this possible?

    • @BlackMantaPhotography
      @BlackMantaPhotography  6 лет назад +2

      Hi ecopsorn - many thanks for the comment and question.
      My honest opinion on owning the Steel, and using the core alongside it on this trip was that they are both as customisable as each other for 99% of the time.
      I did read that the Steel has more customisable functions, but even though I was TEC Diving, I did not see any difference in the way I set them up to dive or even when I was doing the review. For pretty much all occasions you will use them I honestly don’t see how anyone can split them apart in terms of the programming and algorithms.
      Yes - the prominent view is only available on the Core. Whether this will become a firmware update or upgrade to download for the Steel, we will have to wait an see.
      I do have some footage of my Steel that I haven’t used in videos, but whether that covers all of the questions you have I’m unsure. Sadly we had to send the Core’s back when we returned and unsure what other footage I have. I don’t believe I have any compass views, but quite sure I will have shown the Steel screen in other videos.
      Have you looked on the Suunto website at all? I think I saw some great shots on their Core promotional video?
      Hope this helps you out??
      If you’re thinking of buying one and not sure which to go for then if it was me and my money I’d go for the Core.
      Does everything the Steel does in a smaller package and much prefer the set up of the buttons on the Core.

    • @ecopsorn
      @ecopsorn 6 лет назад

      Black Manta Photography thanks a bunch. Good thing that the customizability is almost the same.
      I will likely get the core simply because I am just a recreational diver who would like to spend the extra $ on other gear upgrades :)
      I will check the online Suunto manual about the live-air consumption and compass.
      Take care

    What about when the battery gets bad, like in mobile phones after 2 years?

    • @BlackMantaPhotography
      @BlackMantaPhotography  3 года назад

      It's a good question Hugo. They generally state that you will get around 500+ full charge cycles before the battery starts to deteriorate. That being said, most DC's these days will say you will get 10+ years of use before there is an issue. I guess there's an assumption that there will be a natural upgrade to a new model within that time anyway...

      @@BlackMantaPhotography I prefer a computer that I can use for my life time. The air transmitor air pod cannot be charged, you have to send it to suunto. Too much trouble for a price so high. I will go with Predix, pay a little more and have a computer for life. But I really liked the screen of the suunto and the alarm sound feature.

    • @BlackMantaPhotography
      @BlackMantaPhotography  3 года назад

      @@ee02108 I mean the Perdix is an incredible computer - I find it really interesting to see how the DC offering is evolving, and I'm quite excited to see what the next few years has to offer!

  • @seanjohn4896
    @seanjohn4896 6 лет назад

    Can you dive without the pod attached or is it a must have?

    • @BlackMantaPhotography
      @BlackMantaPhotography  6 лет назад

      Sean John - thanks for the question. No, the pod is not required to dive. The pod relays a live digital pressure gauge to the dive computer unit. You will still have this information through a normal SPG attached to the first stage on the tank.
      Hope that answers your question. 😊

    • @SeattleRingHunter
      @SeattleRingHunter 6 лет назад +1

      Wireless tank pod not required but highly encourage as it works with the computers and brings a lot of value to your logs after the dive. If your a new diver you may not be analyzing your logs as much but as you grow in SCUBA you may study your digital log book more closely and make some interesting notes on your dive profiles. You can dive the EON without the tank pod but I encourage you to get one and be sure to get the "SUUNTO Tank Pod" for the CORE. Previous transmitter designed for the Suunto watch computers are not compatible with STEEL or CORE.

    can you add bungees to this computer? thanks

    • @BlackMantaPhotography
      @BlackMantaPhotography  6 лет назад +1

      Hi Carlos, yes you can add bungees. They do not come as standard in the box, but are are optional extra that can be purchased for a small fee. Hope that helps?
      Thanks for the question.

    • @SeattleRingHunter
      @SeattleRingHunter 6 лет назад +1

      I purchased the bungie and it really didn't work out for me. It may for you. The bungie you basically setup for one wrist or arm size and chop off the remaining bits of bungie cord. I am a dry suit diver and when on holiday in warm water would be using no suit or a wetsuit. So I find the included watch strap being the best for me as I can adjust the tightness exactly for each dive. Hope this point of view is of value to someone out there with the same question.

      Nolan Olivier ah sorry - I thought you were asking for a review video between the 2.
      I’ve always been a Suunto fan - my primary DC is an EON Steel, but honestly think the i770R is a better DC. Lots more personalisation options.
      Will also depend on what you’re using now and if there is any familiarity.

      @@BlackMantaPhotographyYes, apologies; I see how that would have been misleading. Full disclosure, this will be my first DC; I'm planning on taking my advanced certification in March, so I'd like to have it before that time. I'd also prefer to spend the money on a relatively advanced model now and grow with it, rather than decide I need a new one next year. 2 things I would prefer to have would be air integration and legible colour screen. From the info I can gather, these two models appear to be the closest fit, so I'm asking around for as many 2nd opinions as possible. Anyways, thanks for the advice, it is much appreciated.

    • @BlackMantaPhotography
      @BlackMantaPhotography  4 года назад

      Nolan Olivier no problem - so both of these are what are called tablet type DC’s. Should you consider a watch style DC?
      I know you want it now, but it’s likely that Garmin will release the Descent MK2 around March/April time.
      Highly anticipated and will be difficult to beat.
      Obviously it’s more money but worth throwing into the mix..!
