This reminds me of my buddy Jack who passed away about a decade ago. He loved this song. I remember crusing around LA Harbor and San Pedro listening to this song. This is for you big guy! I miss you!!
I remember attending a concert here in South Corpus Christi, Tx. with Def Leppard as special guest. I just can't remember who with. They were wearing the exact same outfits. I vividly remember Joe Elliot wearing that red and white striped T-shirt. They were just barely becoming a popular band here in the States. Their first three albums were the best. I'd like to get my hands on a trilogy of these on CD. Rock! \m/
This song really told you how ambitious and self assured Def Leppard were in the beginning. That alone set them apart from all British hard rock acts. They were obviously fans and not stars. The music was juvenile and crude but that didn't stop their sincerity from coming through. It's what Mutt Lange heard that made him so anxious to work with them.
Thinking this was before Steve became one of the band members. Back then it would have been Tony Kenning, Pete Willis, Joe Elliott of course and Rick Savage
The song that helped push the band even further into fame. The tabloids back in those days of Def Leppard was getting tired of this song and also ridiculed the song to which gave Joe more ambition to push even harder to get where they are now! The song that started it all.
I've watched every video you have of Def Leppard! Thanks for sharing. I thought I was a true Def Leppard fan, but alot of these songs, I have not heard & yes, I loved all of them! You're awesome!! Again, Thanks for sharing!!
Love these guys especially the old stuff. Got Pyromania on cassette when it came out, I was in high school. Anyone notice that Rick Allen is at the front of the stage in this, something you never see. Just goes to show how big a part of the band he is. Awesome
I, for one, am glad that they didn't give up on Rick Allen after losing his arm in that car accident. The fact that he learned to play the drums with one arm is nothing short of phenomenal.
If you heavy metal fans don't like Def Leppard after 1983 don't tell us, because Def Leppard is the best band ever and Hysteria which was in 1987 is the best album ever made.
TRUTH!!! This is the only Def Leppard i've seen live in concert. After Pete was gone...so long Def Leppard. However...They are still a good live band. They just lost the chemistry after Steve & Pete left the band. They're basically just a tribute band now.
This was the first "rock" thing I heard thanks to an mp3 cd someone gave me. When after some years I heard ACDC I said "That's beautiful, it somehow reminds me Def Leppard..." Chorus: "Def Leppard WHO?"
...this is what they STARTED out as, if you can't appreciate what they become, how can you truly appreciate what they came from?? i swear loyalty means NOTHING to people anymore...you can't just appreciate the artistry, you have to knock it because it, god forbid, CHANGED...bloody hell, and i'm only 19 and I ACTUALLY GET IT!!!!!!
I LOVE THE DL...such a great testimony to TRUE artistry...they are the REAL deal, over produced my as*, how would you know since you "lost interest" after adrenalize...they are THE BEST band of all time...jmo...
Here is how you can have fun with anyone that claims to be a DL fan. Play any song from this album with out telling them the name of the band and ask them to guess what band this is... Works every time. IMO, DL's best album!!!
I always liked Rick Allens' drumming on Def Leppard's earlier music. It was such a tragedy when he lost his arm, and I give him and the rest of the band such applause for carrying on and still making some great music in their later years. My favs are still their first 3 albums though! I liked em' better when they had a harder edge.
This is when Def Leppard kicked ass long before Phil Collen went along for the ride. Pete Willis was a great musician and song writer his only problem he loved to drink. So does Eddie Ace and just about every other artist.
I can respect that my friend. They are definitely not as "heavy" as they used to be but they are still fine musicians. The thing I really like about DL is their gift for melody. There isn't a rock band out there who can vocalize like these guys.
In my opinion, as much as I want to hear early '80s Def Leppard in the modern era, as well, unfortunately, due to "old age," I don't think Def Leppard can "muster enough strength" to play anymore "vintage Def Leppard."
Excuse me, STEVE CLARK, I got my names wrong. Thumbs up! He played from the heart. In my opinion. there'll never be a replacement for him, although, they still remain high quality rock and roll.
ItsTheir only album recorded in the 70s... and you hear the difference... their commercial sound is not totally ready... punk ashes still Hot... And their 70s hard rock influence of their big brothers are clear (Led Zepellin Thin Lizzy etc...) Their most heavy and rock n roll album...my fave leppard album... In 1981 the followed up Leppard album will still have some good things before the mtv commercial hardpop years will lead their destiny...
They made some awesome music. It's a shame they don't really play the old old stuff. It's also a shame they got so damned light over the years. Hysteria was an awesome album, but it also spelled the end of a truly rocking Def Leppard.
They still had a raw hard edge to them here. I love this shit. Wasted was our anthem. And yes we got fucking wasted. Oh yes if I could only be young , dumb, and wasted like I was back then, well at least for a couple of weeks again.
Right? Everything is all backwards. You can't see my Savage! Rick looks older than the rest of them but he was the youngest! lol This song rocks! They got a lot of grief from the UK about this song. I have this on a DVD. I love it!
The only problem with that is that Def Leppard pretty much does their albums justice when they play live. so if it is "over produced" then they are doing a hell of job reprenting the stuff well. That's what probably has made them THE BEST BAND of all time!! They play their stuff LIVE just like the album, so if its "over done" then they are one hell of a group!! lol...
This is the B-side original to Wasted (both tracks re-mixed and softened for the album) - Saw them backing up AC/Dc at Hammy Odeon in'79. so impressed went to see them at Marquee - up front - Joe cam on and started the We Hate the Mods singing...fighting all the way home on th etube with Mods and skins........great Days
This clip was filmed for,but never shown on "The Top of the Pops" BBC=Tv Program, according to the Comp "Historia",calling it their "Skeleton in our closet"!
Photograph was not an album but a single from the Pyromania album. Maybe their music changed after Pyromania but they certainly didn't "sink". Hysteria is their biggest and one of the biggest selling albums of all time.
i do miss the "harder" rock stuff, hopefully the new album will have some unique hard lep rock...i hope so for thier sake and the fans...its time for the lepps to ROCK again, but i'll take the new stuff hard or soft, since i love them so much...jmo...
it always seemed strange that "On through the Night" the track was on the album "High'n'Dry, and not on the album "On Through The Night", weird, but i love the earlier albums from the leppards, up to "Pyromania", RIP steve.....
Rick Clark wasn't kicked out. Yeah, he came close but he was well beloved by Joe and the rest of the band. And when on stage, Rick wasn't drunk. His idea was if he could be on stage 24/7 he wouldn't take a drink. Tell me I'm wrong Joe, you know more than anyone.
Their best album.... Back when they really rocked-Rocks off!!
The real Def Leppard!!!
Oh hell yeah!
Hell Yeah!!! This IS Real Music!!!
Def Leppard is awesome! Always will be in my opinion! Yeah no one will EVER replace Steve but they still rock and I have all of thier cd's!
Amen I'm a fan from 79 and on I miss the old Lep but I will say that I still luv them for life but I do miss the ols sound for sure
I'm 14 too, and I also love Def Leppard... They are amazing!!
I miss Steve.. His Guitaring was beautiful. there is no other words for it.
This reminds me of my buddy Jack who passed away about a decade ago. He loved this song. I remember crusing around LA Harbor and San Pedro listening to this song. This is for you big guy! I miss you!!

One of the greatest songs of a misspent youth. If this song doesn't wake you up nothing will.....
Leppard @ its absolute best,no glam in this song kids!!Turn it all the way UP! This is why I started listening to them in the first place.
Once again when Def Lepp was a real rock band.
This one of my favorite Def Leppard songs. I love the rough, almost early punk sound.
2:04-2:43 Steve Clark at his best.....30 second guitar solo, and 9 seconds singing with Joe. DAMN GOOD STUFF
Thinking this was before Steve became one of the band members. Back then it would have been Tony Kenning, Pete Willis, Joe Elliott of course and Rick Savage
Steve Clark was the true Rockin maniac and the band lost their soul when he passed. But they still rock.
The song that helped push the band even further into fame. The tabloids back in those days of Def Leppard was getting tired of this song and also ridiculed the song to which gave Joe more ambition to push even harder to get where they are now! The song that started it all.
This brings back great memories. I saw them on their first American tour, opening for AC/DC on the Hell's Bells tour in New York City.
I've watched every video you have of Def Leppard! Thanks for sharing. I thought I was a true Def Leppard fan, but alot of these songs, I have not heard & yes, I loved all of them! You're awesome!! Again, Thanks for sharing!!

my favorite band of all time
Sweet heaven, in 2012 early DEF sounds better than ever.
This is when they were raw and hungry. Great Post!!
I, for one, am glad that they didn't give up on Rick Allen after losing his arm in that car accident. The fact that he learned to play the drums with one arm is nothing short of phenomenal.
This stuff was hard to find back in the day. Good job guys!!
If you heavy metal fans don't like Def Leppard after 1983 don't tell us, because Def Leppard is the best band ever and Hysteria which was in 1987 is the best album ever made.
YOU GOTTA LOVE VINTAGE LEPPARD!!!!
The power of Pete Willis and Steve Clark is DEFINITELY missed.
TRUTH!!! This is the only Def Leppard i've seen live in concert.
After Pete was gone...so long Def Leppard. However...They are still a good live band. They just lost the chemistry after Steve & Pete left the band. They're basically just a tribute band now.
great track from the first album i ever bought..class
This was the first "rock" thing I heard thanks to an mp3 cd someone gave me. When after some years I heard ACDC I said "That's beautiful, it somehow reminds me Def Leppard..."
Chorus: "Def Leppard WHO?"
...this is what they STARTED out as, if you can't appreciate what they become, how can you truly appreciate what they came from?? i swear loyalty means NOTHING to people anymore...you can't just appreciate the artistry, you have to knock it because it, god forbid, CHANGED...bloody hell, and i'm only 19 and I ACTUALLY GET IT!!!!!!
Young and wild!!! Luv it!!I love it for years!! Steve is forever with us!
I LOVE THE DL...such a great testimony to TRUE artistry...they are the REAL deal, over produced my as*, how would you know since you "lost interest" after adrenalize...they are THE BEST band of all time...jmo...
24 hours and I will be seeing them!! CANT WAIT
Bar none.....best album they put out was right here. So hard and raw ass!!!!!!!!
Here is how you can have fun with anyone that claims to be a DL fan. Play any song from this album with out telling them the name of the band and ask them to guess what band this is... Works every time. IMO, DL's best album!!!
this is one of their best songs
It is amazing how music like this completely and totally dominates everything we hear in rock/metal these days.
Leppard 4 Life
From the almost retired record rack...Not!
Bought this in record around June of '80, and oldie but a goodie!
Another oldie but goodie
This is when Def Leppard kicked ass long before Phil Collen went along for the ride. Pete Willis was a great musician and song writer his only problem he loved to drink. So does Eddie Ace and just about every other artist.
I can respect that my friend. They are definitely not as "heavy" as they used to be but they are still fine musicians. The thing I really like about DL is their gift for melody. There isn't a rock band out there who can vocalize like these guys.
Filmed for an "Top Of the Pops" TV broadcast, but pulled due to its not making the charts..It finally appeared as part of their "Historia" Video comp.
These guys knew how to rock!
In my opinion, as much as I want to hear early '80s Def Leppard in the modern era, as well, unfortunately, due to "old age," I don't think Def Leppard can "muster enough strength" to play anymore "vintage Def Leppard."
Most forgotten rock album ever! Not one bad song on it.
Excuse me, STEVE CLARK, I got my names wrong. Thumbs up! He played from the heart. In my opinion. there'll never be a replacement for him, although, they still remain high quality rock and roll.
love def leppard

No matter what they do it is good. Love the hair LOL.
Yeah!! Full song!!! Full band!
never realised - such a cool keyboard is under all this in the mix .
Steve Clark Alive + Rick Allen with two arms + Joe Elliott No Blond = Rock 'N Roll
ItsTheir only album recorded in the 70s... and you hear the difference... their commercial sound is not totally ready... punk ashes still Hot... And their 70s hard rock influence of their big brothers are clear (Led Zepellin Thin Lizzy etc...)
Their most heavy and rock n roll album...my fave leppard album... In 1981 the followed up Leppard album will still have some good things before the mtv commercial hardpop years will lead their destiny...
They maybe Brits but they are still lovin' America in this song!
You know a song is amazing like this one when it makes your ears pop.
A superior rock band! One of the greatest. Better I think than Stones.
Mickeba
great first album remember79!!!
One of the coolest Leppard songs. :D
indeed i wish he would start jamming again today !
They made some awesome music. It's a shame they don't really play the old old stuff. It's also a shame they got so damned light over the years. Hysteria was an awesome album, but it also spelled the end of a truly rocking Def Leppard.
def leppard de lo mejor
its cute its adorable omg..hahah..i just cant stop..go joe...love ya
THIS IS SO BADASS first time ive ever seen joe do at least a lil headbang haha
saw them in july on same tour:)
I love it!
From "Hystoria"..the "Top of the Pops" clip..their "Skeleton from our closet",as they wrote on the bumper of the video comp! Michael Boyce
The only problem with that is that Def Leppard pretty much does their albums justice when they play live. so if it is "over produced" then they are doing a hell of job reprenting the stuff well. That's what probably has made them THE BEST BAND of all time!! They play their stuff LIVE just like the album, so if its "over done" then they are one hell of a group!! lol...
this is whaen..they rocked!!!!
That would be 20, as he shares the same birthday as me (August 1st) and this was released early in 1980.
DEFINETLY!!
too cool!
I saw them in 1979 with ACDC and Bon Scott was still alive and that was their first American tour, so I think you are mistaken.
DEF LEPPARD---"HELLO AMERICA"
this song was released on April 1st 1980
BBC decided to have Allen up front as most every peice of promotional video up to this always had the drummer stuck in the back.
Cool song!
Yes, this should definitely be on Rock Band or Guitar Hero.
Yup!
i do miss the "harder" rock stuff, hopefully the new album will have some unique hard lep rock...i hope so for thier sake and the fans...its time for the lepps to ROCK again, but i'll take the new stuff hard or soft, since i love them so much...jmo...
WOOHOOO!!!!
HARD ROCK!!!!!
ESTO ES ROCK CARAJO !!!!
What the hell happened to Def Leppard? They should listen to there first 3 albums...... Miss you guys.
it always seemed strange that "On through the Night" the track was on the album "High'n'Dry, and not on the album "On Through The Night", weird, but i love the earlier albums from the leppards, up to "Pyromania", RIP steve.....
PETE-WILL-IS!!!!!!!!!♥♥♥ i♥ this song!!!!pete has such the cutiest face!!
Fair enough. :) Def Lep. still rocks though.
Epic
R.I.P. Steve Clark and Rick Allen's left arm.
this is the leppard i like, b4 they sold out !
Cool
Ah, back when DL rocked. And pre-Hysteria....the good old days.
