The funkiest fingertsyle guitarist teaming up with THE master of fingerstyle guitar... more talent on one stage than ought to be allowed by law! :-) I wonder how much of TEs performance was sheer ad-lib... these two guys don't PLAY music, they ARE music!!! :-)
This is what I call music. It probably won't get better from this. TE and AR both are musical geniuses and they really understand the music. There's a lot of people who can play really well but they still don't feel the music like this two do, they live for the music, they are the music and you can clearly here it in every song they play.
One of my favs of Adams, the fresh improv of Tommy is one of the best I’ve seen him do. I thought Adam’s arrangement (the one he teaches) was the best of the best but Tommy launched it so high I think I can see a Martian’s oval spacecraft orbiting earth;)
I am going to be cryogenically frozen. In a few hundred years if there are acoustic guitar players better than these two please thaw me out. If not wait until there is.
Good LAWD does it get any better than this? lol Tommy E is simply the VERY best there is and one of my heroes and what Adam Rafferty does is AMAZING and nobody can do what he does. They both bring something very unique to the musical table. I love them both. I sure do hope that they make an album of orginals together someday, because if they do what an incredible collaberation that would be. Wonderful! ;)
To the few who asked, Tommy's Wah effect at 0:20 is done by bending the neck of the guitar. He pulls the bottom of the guitar towards him with his right arm and pushes the head away with his left hand. This loosens the tension of the strings and changes the pitch.
EXACTLY! Can you imagine? What an honor to get the great Tommy E's seal of approva of your chops. I mean a guitar that is the caliber of Tommy's, is not going to have just anybody up there on stage with him. Whoever it is, has got to be able to hang and keep up musically speaking, so the fact that he picked Adam says a whole lot. Man speaking as a guitarist myself, that would be like being given the Holy Grail. Fuck the key to the city you know what I mean? Oh yeah. LMAO! :)
AR is an excellent guitar player. I wish for the day that I could simply call up Adam's agent and book him for an event. I've seen TommyE multiple times. You don't end up on stage with him if you are some 'wanna be'- so accept the fact that Adam is excellent. I wish I was even close. But these guys are in separate leagues. TE is THE fingerpicker of this generation, like Chet was of the 50's. There is NOBODY else in his class. Go see him. THEN comment.
+luimacro Flamenco and fingerpicking are diferent styles. You prefere flamenco, that's ok. I prefere fingerpicking. Flamenco seems to me to repetitive over and over again. Don't have to much changes. Is allways the same. The rythm and the melodies are equals. Nothing new. It's only my opinion. I'm a guitarrist.
Tommy is playing an Australian made Maton EBG 808 TE Solid "AAA" Sitka spruce top Queensland maple back and sides rosewood bridge and fingerboard Chrome Grover Rotomatic machineheads
Who is Adam Rafferty?? The guy who just made some nice fingerstyle versions of some well-known songs. Genius?? Not known to wikipedia, not a composer. Businessman who trained a lot with guitar and now successfully sells his DVD's. YOU can play like him if you train a lot. Even here we can see Rafferty playing one simple theme and some beats and Tommy - playing all the other hard, hard, hard stuff. Please, don't even compare them.
@kamikrazi123 lol i was wondering the same thing but he does it by bending the neck. notice how he grabs the head of the guitar(sorry i dont know the official name for it lol) but yeah he pushes on the head while keeping the body of the guitar still by putting his right arm on it and pushing down on it.
ш would appreciate much if you give links to his own songs, i'd listen with pleasure. Wikipedia matters nothing, i agree, but if you do something very good for a long time, you can't miss it anyway.
As an amateur guitarist I am always blown away by Tommy Emanuwl's technical brilliance. But as a music lover I am always disappointed by his decision to show off his technical brilliance rather than highlight the melody, harmony or some aspect of the music.
thanks! talking about comparision: yes, it is dumb. But i say about their techniques, not personalities. Rafferty plays his part that he plays for years, with little changes, but Tommy plays it almost for the first time and his part is much harder. I think, now everybody knows real "difficulties" playing two melodies at once like superstition or day tripper/lady madonna. It is not so hard if you learn it. Thanks for the links!
He did an Em harmonic using the bottom 3 strings at the 5th fret and then bent the neck in and out whilst the harmonic rang out. It's not great for the neck of the guitar if you do it often and dont have a guitar techy at hand :)
Then you obviously know nothing about Adam Rafferty. First of all, he has plenty of original songs and his playing is groove us hell. That's something majority of players will never achieve, no matter how good their techniques are. And how does someone being or not being in Wikipedia affect anyone's ability to play? I could go and create a wiki page for Adam and it wouldn't change a thing. And did I ever compare the two? Comparing two great guitarists is dumb and should never be done anyway.
doesn't always work? It's improvisation you twat if you used your ears as much as your mouth you would have noticed a jazz rhythm in the solo and appreciated it and learned something. go play your video game.
And yes, he is a composer too. Such a dumb comment by you. Just remain silent if you are about to comment about something you know nothing about and your life will be easier.
I like how Adam approaches the music T.A. has always seemed a showboat turn-off & funny watching two old white guys play the this style of music yet obviously showcasing a lot of skill -JD
hell yeah, don't lets pretend that many of the best gutarists don't have awful dieases, like twiddlyitis, which causes them to cram as many riffs and skip beats into every bar as their skill will allow, therefore butchering the music. It's impressive, but no good music comes from it. Poor Tommy has got it bad. See the Doctor, and get well soon Tommy!

Amazing
Straight up funky.

The two of em look to be having a good time. Conclusion: Guitars are great fun!
pride and joy of maton guitars right here.

I love how casually godlike tommy emmanuel is.
a perfect combo of guitarists
holy jesus!! that just made my sunday...thanks guys
jamming with the master.. you lucky son of a gun
I am going to be cryogenically frozen. In a few hundred years if there are acoustic guitar players better than these two please thaw me out. If not wait until there is.
I can't think of another guitarist who enjoys playing more than Tommy.
The harmonic part was so incredible 👌 so lit

2 masters getting down, GOTTA love it
He's just feeling the music! And thank God he knows how to feel it. :)
One stage, two legends!
feeling the music man feeling it like a boss!

and leads to a neck reset, stupid trick

GOD DAMN, that was amazing.
Great playing! I wish there were more recording of them playing tpgether :D~

Two great players just having fun ...isn't that what it's all about ?
Exellent performance.

i love how at 1:35 tommy turns up the guitar so everyone can hear his solo. Great cover!!!!!!!!!
I don't say Rafferty is a bad guy. He is a nice person who can play nice songs and i love him :)

@dim4eg123123 Except that Sungha's style in playing this song was taken from Adam Rafferty. :D

I mean, WOW.
I love much more , how sungha jung and casper esmann play this together , dont know why...
sorry about the dislike guys, my guitar was crying so hard in the corner i didn't know what else to do.....
awesome
Great!
@TheMovieMan8
Seems to me he uses the natural harmonic at the 12th fret, then bends the neck for the vibrato.
If you are invited to play with TommyE you need no other endorsements. Contgrats.
Cool Здорово!

what the hell was that harmonic thing tommy did at the start?
I am not sure if that makes me want to smash my guitar up and never play again or practice untill my fingers are worn down to little stubbs
Ok I finally figured it out Tommy Emanuel is possessed....(can you imagine opening for these guys?)
As an amateur guitarist I am always blown away by Tommy Emanuwl's technical brilliance.

@imillimill Not only Sundays, but Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays also!
its where you play the harmonic and then bend the whole neck to give it a sweet vibrato sound. but if you do it heaps you can screw the neck, haha
@imillimill Not only sundays, but mondays, tuesdays, wednesdays, thursdays, fridays, saturdays also!
0:19 ... LIKE A BOSS !! xD
Through fear of being shot - I'm gonna say it anyway..... I think Tommy Overplays in this. Still a god tho!!!
At 0:20 how did he do that Wah affect?
He did an Em harmonic using the bottom 3 strings at the 5th fret and then bent the neck in and out whilst the harmonic rang out.
It's not great for the neck of the guitar if you do it often and dont have a guitar techy at hand :)
fucking awesome
Why don't you record Duo CD together?
How the hell did Tommy do that effect at 0:19? I saw the harmonics but wtf!
slightly bending the neck of the guitar
@vinnothelizard
oh yeah? sarcasm, is it?

@Siexela
Harmonics and bending the neck... not too tricky.
and if you think that tommy pulled faces look at adam
doesn't always work Tommy's improv, just human i guess master or not...
doesn't always work? It's improvisation you twat if you used your ears as much as your mouth you would have noticed a jazz rhythm in the solo and appreciated it and learned something. go play your video game.
thats why improv doesnt always work,,nobody said anything whether it its great or not..its improv,.use your your pitch deaf ears
It sounded great with the bass line. Improv worked just fine here
