Another great video Rob, really appreciate what you do. I have the greek word "δοῦλος" (doulos) tattooed on my left forearm. It means 'servant or slave.' I got it because the original New Testament was written in Greek. When Jesus goes to wash his disciples' feet, He tells them to be servants like Him. But not just a servant, but the doulos specifically. Back in those days they didn't have sewers or anything like that, so the roads were filthy, filled with mud, animal dung, etc,. and most people walked around either barefoot or wearing sandals. So as a good host, when you had guests over, you would have a servant wash their feet. But because it was such a filthy disgusting job, it wouldn't just be any servant, there would be someone set aside, usually a slave, to wash feet. This was who Jesus told His disciples to be-not just a servant but the lowest of the low, the doulos. I got the tattoo to be a constant reminder to myself to be a servant to my fellow man, not just to other Christians but to all human beings.
Love how you compliment the peeps with subtitles, I got so many tattoos that I don't know where to start, appreciate the thought you put into yours, got a Buddha on my left arm and mara or mahakala on my right one, my body in the middle to represent the balance between the two

Regarding scars and flaws: What's also important is that any given martial art has flaws of its own. Not showing any disrespect, it's just a truth. For example, as a Uechi-Ryu practitioner of 15 years, I know that if I'm on the ground, I am in serious trouble. There is no perfect art, no perfect attack, no perfect defense. In fact, the idea of perfection is simply a myth. The best thing we can do is adapt, learn, and grow from those flaws. Now, in response to your question: I have no tattoos. Probably never will. Within a week I'd have regrets on the design or I'd be so freaked out (I'm weird about things on my skin) I'd be carving it off like a maniac.

Once you start hurting the man attempting to straddle you he's going to start hurting you back. Lots of these female "self defense" instructors think that a groin strike will incapacitate a man, like in the movies, but it's not true. You can see police interaction videos where the angrier and more determined a person is, the more pain they can withstand.
That’s actually a really inspirational explanation of your tattoo. I have a Yankees tattoo cause when i was deployed to Iraq and couldn’t go to games I wanted to take a piece of home with me. Hate all you want, no regrets.

As always - great content! Keep it up, bro! (As for tattoos I got a couple of them, all of them showing different aspects of my life. My most recent one I got this summer, which is very much related to my martial arts background. I got two realistic black and grey boxing gloves - and more specifically - my old, worn "loved to death" training gloves. They represent both my time in boxing - but also that even old, worn stuff (or people - like me) is worthy of love and respect for the time they've put into the craft). And excuse my bad English. I'm Swedish and it is not my native language.
I've seen videos of her before, and she hasn't the first clue about "self defense." A far better use of hips comes from Master Ken and his "Thrust of Freedom." Oh, and my one tattoo is my wedding band, complete with Celtic knotwork, around my left bicep.
I have four tattoos. One is an eagle carrying a banner with my kids' names. One is an alligator my youngest drew, because of a nickname of hers. One is a caduceus made with a syringe, stethoscope, and bandaid that I drew as a nursing program sweater idea that didn't get used. The other is an epilepsy awareness tattoo, it's in purple and has intertwined delta and infinity symbols as well as "with struggle comes strength" around the outside. That one is because my oldest is a severe epileptic.
I have a ton of tattoos.... my first was a heart....over my heart. I think you nailed it toward the end of your assessment. She deserves 3 Dillmans because of her influence. Otherwise you can see that she obviously learned something... but not at a high level.
New subscriber here. Keep on exposing the frauds. I have 10 tattoos. Full back dragon & lotus flowers, EKG on chest with the date I became a nurse, king chess piece on my L forearm, L ankle infinity symbol with Roman numerals for 28 (matching tat with my bff), my kids names & bdays on each of my ribs, L hip/thigh with roses/vines with the eye of providence ect.. it’s huge lol … My tat artist died about a year or so ago… bummed… RIP BOOG
Okay so I have around 55 years experience training, competing in, and teaching various martial arts. Much of what you say is valid criticism of the execution of the demonstrated techniques. For example : headlock : there is a difference between a choke and strangle [sleeper hold vs block off ability to breath]. You can turn your chin into the crook of your attackers elbow, which will relieve pressure on the front of your throat. Continuing by hanging on to the crook of the elbow and dropping your weight can help with the side pressure. Striking backward or upwards with the point of your elbow is possible, but takes training. Most people do do elbow strikes with the flat rather than the point of their elbow. However, there is a better potential for a strike or squeeze with the inside hand to the groin. I agree that an outside elbow will most likely miss. Hair grab : I have long hair. If you are lucky enough to have someone grab your hair fairly far from your head, you have a lot of freedom of movement, and a hank of hair away from someone's head isn't at all secure. That "slice" would probably work, if someone grabbed my hair the way illustrated. I would add that you should hold your hair with the "other" hand close to your head, so that the attacker is only holding hair. I wish that her techniques were more technically sound and that she outlined her training and experience more fully -- like "who taught her those techniques?" I would like to see more women teaching women self-defense. Way too many of the people teaching these things (in my view and experience) are large guys. I have also found that the men teaching women's self-defense, at their core, don't really believe that a woman can "hurt" a man (or at least, not them) ... not a good thing. I have no tattoos. I recognized the torii and like yours. I find the "McDojo" breakdowns entertaining and informative. I'm sad about what has happened to George Dillman (who, many, many, many years ago, had some valid stuff to offer).
The best place to be in a self defense situation is the standing position because you can punch fast move fast run away etc But you need to have ground work of the attacker takes you down And of he takes you down when you are trying to run away or something he is probably going to be bigger and stronger than you which makes the ground the most dangerous place to be in a self defense situation
I am covered and to be honest none really have much meaning to me , had a idea got it designed well blast it in , some people do the whole deep meaningful thing and that's cool each to their own , as a kid I just wanted to be covered , not a single regret on any one.
"Ground is the safest place"..wut? I do jiu jitsu cuz I DON'T want to be on the ground...just because it's likely to go there doesn't make it ideal for self-defense. Curb stomping is a thing. How did she con so many outlets to hire her as a 'self defense expert' ?
People need to take her up on her BS and outright challenge her to a spar. Video that and expose her. Simple as that. If she's as good as she claims to be, then she should have 0 problem backing it up.
2 tattoos for now. the first is a trumpet (i play it teached from my father) and the second is the symbol of Karate Wado Ryu (with the respective kanjis). I plan to do one of Kajukenbo as soon as i get to black belt :D
Gotta be honest...in all the years I've been watching your content, I've never noticed the scars from the cleft lip. Had you not mentioned it, I probably never would have.
Many tattoos. One is my original tkd schools' patch and one other I love is a combination tat. It's the moving guys from Rush's Moving Pictures album carrying the large picture and in the picture is the Dark Side of the Moon album cover.
One tattoo...so far. My family crest. I wasn't going to get any tattoos, but I got it in honor of my brother who was going to get it but didn't have a chance before he passed. Now I want several more. Something for my service in the Corps, something for martial arts, something for my faith, and maybe something that incorporates my kids, we'll see. Basically the things that went into making me who I am today.
Was doing MCMAP (Marine Corps Marital Arts Program) which is basically just MMA and while giving instruction on the blood choke locked in for just a few seconds. This was enough time to cause the young man to lose consciousness. Funny enough the instruction was on the improtance of preventing your opponent from gettint the lock because if they do you are done.
"Our hips are boney, and imagine that in their sensitive areas". Miss, I don't think you've thought through the anatomy of how those areas would align if someone was "straddling" you, because last time I checked, your legs force you to never be aligned in that way.
I have boba fett’s helmet with a smoke background covering my left pec, I have a red oni samurai mask/helmet with waves on my right pec that blends into my sleeve of a dragon and tiger with more waves and some maple leaves
When she said that you should try to bite - and mind you, they're in guard and the other person is in mount - she must have forgotten that if you really piss the person off on top they are just going to hammer fist your face into hamburger meat. I'm picturing all of the examples Rener and Ryron have on the GracieBreakdown channel where they themselves point this sort of thing out. That's actually something I'd like to see: this lady versus Ryron.
My sister and I have kanji for pair/two of a kind/set of two (depending on translation). Hers on her right foot mine on my left. Basically looks like 2 X's that are connected. We both spent many years training and and teaching martial arts and its a binding force for us to this day.
I have to say, this is the most logical style of self defense I have ever seen, the woman is clearly a genius in the sorts the martial art community has ever known
My tattoos are all crap because I practiced on myself. I have given good tattoos to other people, but the three I have are absolutely horrible. The only one I have that relates to martial arts is the kanji for strength on my leg. I screwed up so bad that it looks like a weird stylized letter d. I actually just messaged a professional tattoo artist about fixing or covering up my horrible tattoos.
You only have to watch a few fights where hair pulling is involved to see how fucked you are when someone controls your head. One yank and you're easy prey.
1st tattoo I got was my saiyan symbol from dragonball z anime with my lil brother. My brother and I grew up watching DragonBall Z and we both love martial arts. Our relationship grew so much training together so for his birthday I decided to get matching tattoo with him.
Upkicks are used as defense to stop someone from advancing potion. Not a go to technique. More a last resort in order to stop someone from passing guard.
It feels like stuff someone just sat and thought might work rather than any real test or training... which is why I love BJJ and know that most of it works and will work with a single opponent... because we actually DO IT live every night.
The slot machine defense reminds me of the kungfu movie Shaolin Hand Lock. The titular move is the rear naked choke, and its only weakness is attacking the ribs.
I have quoted Chubbs Peterson's "All in the hips" bit so many times when teaching my students about getting their hips into their strikes. Honestly, it hasn't failed me when it comes to getting the point across yet. I have "dignity" from the simpsons tattooed on my arm. I like to think it's a dignified piece of ink.
Entertaining as always, yet your explanation of the tattoo provides another insight into (what I consider to be) the genuine nature of your site. But because I commented yesterday this will be my last for a while lest I appear too troll-like, or whatever the current vernacular is. As to the feedback you asked for; I have two tats; one is a tribal-inspired calligraphy of my kids names. The other (my first) is a rather large winged angel across my back; she is kneeling and blindfolded. The simplest explanation would be the search for, or the longing for, purity and innocence yet the pragmatic realism that it (probably) doesn't exist outside of philosophic musings. Ergo, be nice but if they prove to be arse-holes end it quickly and move on. Thanks for the vids, McDojo Man.
I considered a Kanji and Kanku (Kyokushin) tattoo at the same location as they are on the Gi. I started considering this when i was 20, and i still busy considering now i turn 55. I guess i need some more time.....
My JKD teacher always said, “you can’t learn martial arts from a book or a RUclips video “… Tattoos: 5 of em, moon, sun (with faces) my logo, a weird character I drew, and another weird character I drew. ✌🏽
I have several military oriented tattoos as well as kanji for “Duty & Honor” between my shoulder blades. I will soon be getting the kanji for Ronin on the inside of my left forearm. 🥋
Samurai with a dragon bursting out of the right side of his kabuki and you see the skull on that side. Dragon comes over my shoulder turning tword the samurai breathing life and the left side of the samurai armour ( yoroi ) is pristine. It resembles life and death, pain and healing.
I have 5 tattoos, all mean a lot to me (and only me), but there is one that involves another person, my firstborn, i have his hand a foot imprinted on a “seed of life” mandala. I wanted to do another one for my second son, but he deserves a different type and something special for him! ❤
I don’t have any tattoos. The reason is, I go to Japan and I love visiting onsen and public bath houses, and you’re not allowed in if you have tattoos, you have to go to a private bath house. The other reason is when you demonstrate in front of a Japanese panel, they make you cover up your tattoos and remove any jewelry. In American dojos, we don’t care, but they do in Japanese dojos, at least in the federations that I belong to. As for the women’s self defense, I know a lot of people who train women’s defense classes and the first thing they always teach is awareness. Situational awareness, environment awareness, 9 times out of 10, on the street, these guys pick their targets because they see people-men and women-who aren’t paying attention to their surroundings. Now this might not be the case for everywhere, but according to the police reports in my city, that’s the biggest reason my friends teach women’s self defense this way
I recently got my first tattoo also because I wanted it to have significance. I got a band on left forearm and it has 5 Taíno symbols (Sun, Sea Turtle, Coquí, a ceremonial mask, and Yucahu) as I’m from Puerto Rico and it represents my indigenous heritage from the island.
I have my dog, wearing my current gym's gi, while integrating parts of my first gym's logo, on my back shoulder. Love your stuff, this chick should go to ANY BJJ Gym and explain how this works and just see how it goes in a real life situation. She could even do it to the new white belt class and see how it works. I'm betting there are enough high school kids that would let her try it out also. I KNOW we have a ton at our gym that would let her try it on us.
It’s frightening how many people are out there teaching self-defense who don’t s*** from shinola. If a person hasn’t competed or been a bouncer, move on.
Imo bouncers should most definitely not be giving self defense advice(I used to be one). Bouncers have many advantages in most situations - numbers, sobriety and often size. The only bouncer that should be giving self defense advice is one that studies or trains in BJJ imo. Yours is a really weird take and I question how you got to those conclusions with rational thought.
I don't have any tattoos, no. I'm not personally very fond of them, but I think it's cool if people like them and I've seen some genuinely badass tattoos. And I like that you've attached some special meaning to yours. I remember this lady. Ramsey did a review of her videos once. She's the "safety device" lady, who seemed sold a scenario where you'd be on your back against multiple attackers, and someone come out on top so long as you did some bicycle kicks and had a rape alarm. I had one of those, once. I'm honestly pretty sure that if anyone heard it going off, they'd assume it was a car alarm and ignore it.
I have two X's on my chest that stand for straight edge, I don't drink, smoke or donany hard drugs, I made them look like bamboo stick since I used to do Kali, I also have an ouroborus on my shoulder from full metal alchemist, and my right leg has catwoman and black widow on the back, with Hinata (Naruto) and Nico Robin (One Piece) in the the front
I have personally used a lot of traditional techniques in real life. At least two dozen street fights and working security as well add another dozen or so times. In my experience some of these techniques can work. They have to be done quickly, and it all depends on the context. Grappling isn't fail free either. I knew a wrestling coach in China. He was young very big for Chinese and a wrestler. Huge advantage in a street fight in that culture. He was cocky and grabbed a guy through the window of a car in some road rage type of incident. The guy most likely a skinny nerd cut his had with a knife. He needed several surgeries and couldn't form a fist anymore.
I have two tattoos. One is on my left shoulder blade and its a design to explain my personality - a teddy bear wearing John Lennon tea shades and a Punisher Tshirt. The other tattoo is a lipstick kiss mark and it's in an undisclosed location. Let's just say it's a Hell of a conversation piece.
Having a video chat, or better yet a live stream running is probably a good strategy. If a kidnapper comes towards you, make sure you capture him and broadcast him. If he sees that his face is on Instagram, he is far less likely to make a move and he will just keep walking past you and pretend like nothing happened. If he goes through with the kidnapping & murder, there's a video broadcast of his face recorded. Make sure the phone is locked after he's been captured.
So I never wanted a bunch of different tattoos. I appreciate them and believe in people being allowed to express themselves however they want, but it wasnt for me. My first tat is a full back piece. I incorporated many different things into it to reference different aspects of my life. I will continue to add to my back piece as life brings the opportunity.
Hope everyone enjoys this one and I am looking forward to seeing everyone answers for the question at the end :)

I just wanted to say I love the channel I’m a life long martial artist keep up the good work in the grest content
Appreciate the support. Thank you
That's awesome! Loved the logo breakdown!
I wish that her techniques were more technically sound and that she outlined her training and experience more fully -- like "who taught her those techniques?"
I would like to see more women teaching women self-defense.
Another banger Rob, thanks.
I have a tattoo of Huginn (one of Odin's ravens) covering my left shoulder and upper arm.
And no tattoos. I remember back in the 90s when all my friends were getting them. I didn't wanna do what everyone else was doing.
The best place to be in a self defense situation is the standing position because you can punch fast move fast run away etc
But you need to have ground work of the attacker takes you down
And of he takes you down when you are trying to run away or something he is probably going to be bigger and stronger than you which makes the ground the most dangerous place to be in a self defense situation
I am covered and to be honest none really have much meaning to me , had a idea got it designed well blast it in , some people do the whole deep meaningful thing and that's cool each to their own , as a kid I just wanted to be covered , not a single regret on any one.
It’s so easy to test people out with claims like this, just have them fight someone and let’s see
"Ground is the safest place"..wut?
“The ground is one of the safest places to be” says no legitimate self defense instructor 😂
Many tattoos. One is my original tkd schools' patch and one other I love is a combination tat. It's the moving guys from Rush's Moving Pictures album carrying the large picture and in the picture is the Dark Side of the Moon album cover.
first thing she said debunked her as a defense expert...
The new and progressive way to teach ground fighting is to vaguely demonstrate while standing.
Sounds like you want to give something like self-surrender classes. If you're worried about pissing the attacker off, then just don't do anything.
I have quite a few tattoos, but the only martial arts related one I have is the characters for "Wing Chun" on my forearm.
Username checks out.
My tattoos are all crap because I practiced on myself. I have given good tattoos to other people, but the three I have are absolutely horrible. The only one I have that relates to martial arts is the kanji for strength on my leg. I screwed up so bad that it looks like a weird stylized letter d. I actually just messaged a professional tattoo artist about fixing or covering up my horrible tattoos.
how does this relate to the video?
@@asgerhenriksen523 At the end of the video, he asked the viewers if we have any tattoos and what they are.
She is as much a self defense expert as Stephen A. Smith is a sports expert.
But from bottom/floor, you can still do upkicks and use your legs as frames. I think it's okay to use bottom, you just have to have awareness.
Upkicks are used as defense to stop someone from advancing potion. Not a go to technique. More a last resort in order to stop someone from passing guard.
My tattoo is a grim reaper on my upper left arm, never fear death. We slowly die from the minute we're born and should cherish every minute.
This is a person who has never rolled with another person going 100%.
No tattoos and never will. I also can't understand why anyone would get one. Good video.
Watching someone punch a brick wall with a broken fist proved to me that you can't really rely on pain compliance for defense.
I considered a Kanji and Kanku (Kyokushin) tattoo at the same location as they are on the Gi. I started considering this when i was 20, and i still busy considering now i turn 55. I guess i need some more time.....
4:08 it happened to me while grappling tho it wasn't proper mount, it was while mounting, it hurt yeah but it's whatever
I don't have tattoos and I don't like tattoos so I'll never have a tattoo
My JKD teacher always said, “you can’t learn martial arts from a book or a RUclips video “…
Tattoos: 5 of em, moon, sun (with faces) my logo, a weird character I drew, and another weird character I drew. ✌🏽
@9:11 girl lowkey loves having her hair pulled.
I have several military oriented tattoos as well as kanji for “Duty & Honor” between my shoulder blades. I will soon be getting the kanji for Ronin on the inside of my left forearm. 🥋
The bad part is people are gonna get false confidence by this crap
Wow. I thought Middle Easy talked some sense into her but I guess she just "yes'd" them away.
What movie is that around 10:00 scene from? Jason Mewes is awesome =D
Zack and Miri make a p*rn
We all know that the first step to martials arts mastery isn't wiggling your hips, it is wiggling your big toe. Just ask Uma Thurman.
Be careful, i always have my tongue in the wrong position int he mouth. So nothing works on me.
Now this might not be the case for everywhere, but according to the police reports in my city, that’s the biggest reason my friends teach women’s self defense this way
I was wondering what a dutch rudder was. Umm, thank you...I guess, for the explanation :)
Her best defense is that hair cut.
Love the story of your logo! :)
"Act like your on the phone and don't call anyone." This makes me think of '127 Hours' with James Franco.
No tattoos.
No yet! working on the idea

I used to have LOOOONG hair and that bit made me grab my head
(both phantom pain and cringe)
