It seems that he was stressed toward the end of his life
Was coming here to comment this! Atrocity Guide really tells the absolutely crazy story really well. I often wonder if any of his former computer developer followers are at my workplace...
I’m questioning whether I could ever fall into a cult. What is missing in these peoples lives that make them easily influenced to follow blindly? Is it the need to feel a belonging to something? Loneliness? Naivety? It’s so wild that they play a long with madness. Anywho, he did the best and rightful thing by ending his lies himself. I would say a cult is any community that does not allow you to express, discuss or question the reasons why you exist as a community. Would be interesting to see how these cult leaders speak to their followers to make them do these stupid acts
It starts with meeting some cool new friends and you just sorta get sucked in. By the time you figure out "hey maybe this is a cult" you're already pretty far into it and leaving will be painful because you lose your friends. Hopefully you hadn't fully distanced yourself from everyone else in your life, but for many that's the case and they can't bear to leave
I think you are currently witnessing a mega cult in the US. With, what 30 millions, followers. Don't ask me how it works, though. I don't get it at all. Support by a media outlet and churches seem to help.
A "cult" is defined as a body of knowledge and practices that are handed down from teacher to student and parent to child in group of people that includes more than personal family and friends.
Often times we hear of a cult following to something, while that can be a friendly way of following a certain artist, music style or even a movie. I think a real cult is when people follow a certain life style following some rules that are usually dictated by the cult's leaders. Once you give these cult leader or leaders the power to shape your life style it can get dangerous.
I think the definitions of the word cult are accurate enough. This stuff always make me shudder as my mind goes immediately to (the-self-proclaimed) Rev. Jim Jones, and that entire mess. I keep telling myself that today's people are not dumb enough to repeat that, but even here in my home country of NZ, there are some 'organisations' that seem to be skirting around the edges of what's scary and what's not.
My first thought is that this looks like a 90s video. Thankfully you answered my question right away. Thanks. When you cannot question the authority without facing punishment from the leader I think you are falling for a cult.
There isn't really a way to differentiate between a "religion" and a "cult" in a technical sense. Both can engage in illegal practices, both can have incredibly warped belief systems. Both can venerate their leaders to an extreme degree, and also hide horrible acts. The difference coming to be widely-adopted in the relevant literature is that a "cult" is simply defined as such because it is not socially accepted.
@@Disturbed0neGaming There are always new people who, even within established religions, get extremely venerated and worshipped. Then you end up with the same crap as a founder might do.

This guy gets all the Dillmans & a few Ashida Kims for good measure. As for defining a cult it's tricky but the best explanation I ever heard of the difference between a cult & a religion is this: In a cult there's one person at the top, raking in all the money that knows it's a scam.
