I used to shop at Burlington and Marshalls back in Milwaukee and they had Karl Kani, I bought one shirt and fell in love with it, no other shirt fit my body type like it, i was a chubby self conscious kid and my Kani shirt gave me confidence. So for a while Kani was the only shirts i would get. To this day I still have and still rock my favorite tee from over 20 yrs ago, i think i have 3 or 4 of the og tees total, and i have 5 striped polo shirts, and some denim shorts, all in great condition . Whats crazy is, I just now decided to google the word thats on my fav tee I been rockin over 20 yrs lmao, it says Coup d'etat, which turns out to be french for illegally or violently overtaking a form of government. Sad to see the brand took a turn, the website is definitely not representing the old street wear designs. Im actually trying to figure out where Karl was getting his apparel from, and I kinda want to try to bring back that style making my own shirts for myself. He wasnt just a good designer, the clothes were quality. Whoever runs the brand now must know it cus their prices are redonculous lol. Thanks for the lil history man.
I live in europe and both zalando and about you have ALOT of his stuff. Some might be a bit too expensive but you can easily get them for half of the price.
Early 2000 till 2017/18 karl kani in europe is the most iconici "raver" wear brands. If u go to a illegal rave in those years u can see 80% of the guys with some kk stuff on. kk and osiris d3
Ngl Miss the days of Karl Kani being a Black owned brand that was crafted with pride in south central LA. It’s cool that he went global but sad that he chose the route of outsourcing cheaper products from slave labor countries like Sri Lanka, China and Korea. It’s easy to say “the market got flooded” but let’s be real who stepped outside of the community to get rich and flood the market to supply the demand? Then when the brand lost its hype took off to Japan and Germany? Said the boat was sinking? No your pro black company went full blown capitalist and you chased the dream of becoming more rich. Imagine if kani stuck around kept the quality and built on the black community it was originally boasting about feeding. No doubt the brand would’ve become a Black owned and made powerhouse like he originally wanted. Brands like fubu took that spot working out of an apartment in NYC only to follow in his footsteps later on. kani is still around and now just selling cheaply made overpriced replicas of his classics worn by deceased legends. Working purely off nostalgia. Meanwhile second hand sites like ebay are selling hoodies from the original era for $500-$1000. Sad to say but the Godfather of streetwear sold out .
Fubu & Karl Kani was one of the most expensive overpriced clothing brands that hit the mainstream market. You had to be wealthy to afford their clothing, Ecko was also expensive.
It was never expensive 😂 it wasn’t cheap but was def not expensive..everybody in the hood had Kani and Fubu.. and last I checked the hood ain’t wealthy 😂
@@jaybruno3571 Try purchasing Karl Kani today, and then come back and tell me if it ain't overpriced. You talking to someone that was born in 80's dawg.
@@jaybruno3571 They was overpriced and even more now, look it up homie. You talking bout the Hood I'm from Regent Park, a lot of kids back then couldn't afford Brand name clothing. Don't give me that crap, most kids come from a broken home and hustled to eat. A pair of Karl Kani Jeans was $100 and those match sweat suits was like a buck fifth. Fubu had the matching pants and Jeans Jacket with Fat Alberta they was close to $200
@@static_Tricolor_camryI grew up in The Bronx in the 90s and could get all those brands at Dr. Jays for super cheap 😂😂😂😂 gimme a break,,,Kani is super cheap

I think it would be a good idea to create a new brand in the vibe of KK, the retro look is big. But yeah they had an era where they ran shit.
I love karl kani clothing🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I love Karl Kani where can I buy it from? Is the brand still around?

Used to wear KK back in the 2000s. Also being from Germany, we pronounced the name very differently - *Karl Kah-nee* 😂
Dachte ich wäre der Einzige 😂
In italy the same, kani sound like cani, the word for dogs
The jeans used to be really nice. There’s still some nice pieces but it’s lacking quite a lot over here in the UK
