The answer is a two part answer. the first is gold Grillz(Removable) in rap began in New York in the eighties i got my first pair in 85 or 86 at the coliseum in queens. second is gold Teeth Permanent, dentist done (slugs, rounds) started in the south. i don't know exactly where but both my Mimi's had them one from North Carolina and the other Louisiana. Just a reminder no matter where your from New York or California your people are from the south.
