Oh and I learned this neat technique for creating bubbles in ocean scenes like this. Again, I wish I could load a photo to show you, but when the paint is still wet you can flick rubbing alcohol onto the paint and the spots bleed into really cool bubbles!

Your question about the “spots” on the flippers…what I do is paint the whole flipper and then add lines like webbing, which creates the division. Actually, I paint everything first…the shell, head and flippers, then paint the lines in. Makes it a lot easier than filling in each “spot” and also ensures that there is a continuity of the colors, tones and values. And the lines don’t vary as much that way either. You have control of how thin or thick each line is as you go. To finish, I glaze over areas to set back the lines a bit and vary the color. Wish I could share a photo with my comment. I would post one of my progress photos to show how I did that. Hopefully what I said makes sense. 😊

Absolutely love the colors. You are an amazing artist, Annie! I’m so glad I found you. Question…I’m new to Unsplash. (And thank you for sharing that!) I know the images are free, but when I choose a photo, do I need to credit the photographer on my painting? I just recently painted something (not from Unsplash) and got permission from the photographer to paint from his image. It’s a neat experience to talk with a photographer about using their work. First time needing to do that! So when I went to Unsplash and saw that the photographs have the name of the photographers, it made me wonder about this.
Here is there license page unsplash.com/license. It says no attribution needed, but appreciated. The problem with any site, is they can change their terms at anytime. My early videos I didn't link/show my reference photos for this reason. Now I hope the sites I use don't change their terms
@@AnnieTroe Great, thank you!! Well, hopefully, if they do change their policy it will be like a “grandfather clause” since you painted from them during a time when no attribution was required. That only seems fair.
So adorable. What pencil you use for the traceable?
I scribble on the back of my printed photo with a chalk pastel, tape it to the canvas, chalk side to canvas. Trace the photo with a ballpoint pen. Don't use oil pastel, it doesn't play with with the acrylic paint.
