I am Japanese and understand only a little English, so I use translation! Well, Windows 10 for Arm can emulate x86 software on Arm, but not x64 software. However, Windows 11 can now run x64 software, thanks in part to the recent Surface! So if you try it on Windows 11, it may work to some extent! (And then we'll put a CPU cooler on it...)
Can confirm. Actually 11 on an arm surface (even an old surface pro x) is quite a good experience with native stuff, the emulation can be a little unpleasant on the older ones but that's more down to lack of ram
@@AnonyDave how's performance? i have a janky windows xp VM (compiled this build of xp from the nt5 leak!) running on an amlogic S905X under QEMU with the host on armbian, it runs but performance is quite terrible, an original pentium would probably run xp faster
I think Jeff Geerling already got this to work. He's running full size graphics cards with the Raspberry Pi 5. There is also the new release of the Raspberry Pi 5 16 GB model now. Imagine what you could do with that.
Windows on arm has existed for a LONG time. An easy tool for windows on raspi has existed for since the raspi 3. Runs well if set up on an ssd with the pi5. Great video though, I love what you post!
It’s running slow because they discontinued windows for the raspberry pi 5 and they said they will NEVER make a graphics driver due to lack of developers/coders/compilers and have financial problems for the developers so they aren’t getting paid enough to continue development on the project but the orange pi 5 is being worked on so don’t lose all hope and there could potentially be a graphics driver for it! Anyways keep up the vids man high quality and straight to the point as always!
nah I’m a tech guy and I think the pi 5 is amazing ngl, I used to own a pi 400 and I used to daily drive it when I had a crappy pc, so no I’m not gonna call it a piece of shit lol
I dig it. Have been just generically curious about Windows Arm Version being installed on a Pi and this confirms what I predicted (I’m sure a lot of us did).
I really want to see what happens with the Windows 11 ARM, I'm pretty sure that Windows 10 build is pretty old and they have changed a lot recently with Windows 11 24H2 ARM
Heat sinks, fans and the right power supply. if its warm while idle its probably damaged. The standard pi os will cut back the power and clock speed based on heat and the knowledge it has about the power supply then it throttles(assuming it is the os that controls this). if cooling and powering correctly id imagine it would do better.
I ended up with a playable Project Diva MegaMix+ on a 2015 HP Pavilion, but that was via Linux in short bursts. What a POS of a laptop that was - want to upgrade ram and drive and battery? Gotta take the back off and the motherboard out. Want to not thermal throttle? Gotta have HP's Windows-unique set of super special drivers. RPi5 I would like to put in a Sony Vaio P somehow to drive its screen and formfactor to get the best supercompact ever.
if you wonder why undertale runs so good its because it runs on a very old version of game maker that even allows people to use it on windows xp or windows 98
You can intall the wor-flasher by the Pi Apps Store Just use Pi OS an the Install the Pi Apps Store you can find the command online and after that you Install the wor-flasher and this even Supports Raspberry Pi 5 but you need to Install everything to a SD Card or a USB device. :)
10.0.19041.1.vb_release.191206-1406 Build 19041.1 is the base build of most subsequent builds of Windows 10 May 2020 Update as well as later versions of Windows 10. This build was released to Windows Insiders in both fast and Slow rings on 10 December 2019. Compiled on 6 December 2019. my guess as to why apps were running crappy is that there's no gpu drivers (yes, i believe the pi has a gpu). also if you really wanted to, you can connect an external one!
Yeah, on the WoR GitHub page you can see that it has no GPU acceleration. Plugging an external GPU like a GTX 750 Ti and getting it to work on the Pi will be pretty rewarding though
Well, at the very least the Windows kernel and all its APIs had to be rebuilt from scratch to run on ARM, so it makes sense that it's incomplete and buggy.
Microsoft Basic Display Adapter is also on Windows 10, i'm not sure if there's a difference between 10's and 11's though. you can only use 1Hz on that adapter though, your mouse is at least running at 120hz but moving windows and animations will run awfully.
Please for the love of god the reason why its so slow is because you dont have a cooler. there 5$ USD on like amazon or pishop. Its thermal throttling the hell out of it
to give windows for arm the best chance you must de-bloat it after install get rid of everything that is not absolutely needed to run windows remove all preinstalled apps
I believe Windows 11 would've run better. Especially since it has support for actual arm and isn't just a test iso. I suspect the installer wasn't booting for some UEFI reason. That's what the github repo was for from my understanding.
its windows 11 with a windows 7 theme. you can see the windows 11 notification center icon on the right side of the taskbar and the file explorer has tabs feature
The problem is that there is no GPU driver for Windows on Raspberry Pi. What do games need? GPU acceleration... Gaming on Linux on Raspberry should work better when you use box86/box64, using PiApps it should be pretty straight forward to set up

i thought they had a lil chip that only boots rasp OS like the ps4 running its own thing only because the bootloader is on a chip or something
They do it by getting uefi to work on it, then installing windows on arm
