I actually did a full odds egg hunt in sun and moon for a shiny rowlett since I misunderstood how to masuda hunt and thought it would work with a same race ditto but since I was young and dumb I did it for over 900 eggs and got extremely lucky and found it.
I was having the opposite luck, I did masuda method w/ charm for absol for about 2200 eggs before I finally gave up Thankfully I got it later in shield in only about 160 eggs :)
I did the sinjoh ruins hunt for giratina. Took me 4 months of non stop mashing through the cutscenes and resets. When I finally got it I was yelling so much my family thought I needed to go to the er
Getting shiny Pokemon in Legends Arceus is the most fun I've had getting a Shiny Pokemon in a long time. Because most of the time it's accidental, I'm getting what is close to full odds on Pokemon I just randomly pass
Agreed with a lot of this list, though going over odds on certain "too easy" methods does feel painful, especially things that make the overall odds much better like dexnav. Random shinies tho I think are the most special, in my opinion. Hunting shinies is fun, but nothing gives the shock and adrenaline of finding a shiny when you're not even trying.
Every single shiny I have ever gotten with the exception of weavile in scarlet, has been obtained without hunting. I don't have the insane patience required for shiny hunting, especially at full odds. 1:Ratatta, gen 2 2: Miltank, gen 6 3: Maril, Gen 9 The rest I didn't catch. Stupid pidgey with no pokeballs. 😢
I remember my first shiny, it was Gen 3 (full odds, wasn't hunting) and of course it was a zubat from one of the caves! He became a crobat with all the love I gave him, and now I have (almost) every shiny you can hunt for
The reset odds for SOS chaining only happen in vanilla Sun/Moon! In Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon, they stay at the increased rate. I guess it was a glitch in the originals...?
Right when you said "free shiny" when talking about mass outbreak hunting a full odds shiny Haunter spawned right in front of me, so thanks for summoning a free shiny!
I for one love the mass outbreaks. i totally get the odds are ridiculous, and i do agree they could be toned down a bit, but i find it to be a lot of fun to keep doing the outbreaks and get better at them each time. like, to start you'll mess it up a little, might fight a few pokemon, but later on you'll have it down and get them no problem. Also it's getting a LOT more people into shiny hunting with how quick it is
I actually love the outbreak method. I think they could lower the odds a bit but as someone with health problems that make me tired and lower my motivation, I've found it hard to keep up with harder shiny hunting methods.
@@ThedomiNATION I don't think that's weird at all. I have 12 shinies from this method already and I do think it is too easy. They could definitely make them twice as rare and it would still be fine for people like me. There's certainly something exhilarating about finally finishing a long hunt though.
So it turns out I realized I did not include fossil revives on this list! For the most part though I would probably rank it as “Valid Hunting Method” in the older games but in the newer games I would probably rank them in “Too Easy” as they are similar to double encounters in the sense that you can revive MANY fossils per reset in the newer games without having to even check their summaries to see if they’re shiny! Also after the latest update of Pokémon Legends Arceus, you can no longer reset Mass Outbreaks. Because of this, I would not put Mass Outbreaks in the “Too Easy” Tier!
@@ThedomiNATION Not rly, it takes a long time for them to appear and only up to two of the Pokémon you want appear, additionally the chance to fail a shiny is extremely high.
having a tier called "valid hunting method" completely unironically while saying the tiers are objective and not opinions pretty much embodies what so many people hate about "hardcore" shiny hunters lol
I probably should’ve called it “standard” but I called it valid as in a valid way to hunt for shinies that isn’t too hard. I can see how it can be taken the wrong way though
@@napkinx4341 you should probably work on your reading comprehension, my comment had nothing to do with how easy or hard a given method is and everything to do with pointing out the snobbery of implying only certain methods are "valid" ways to hunt
In Omega Ruby I was hatching pokemon to fill my living dex, and so I could get the shiny charm. I was at the stage of breeding the pokemon I already had so I could get their unevolved forms that I didn't already have. I had to breed a LOT of pokemon. I was going in order, so I had already done generation 1, and was onto generation 2. I would put the mon in the daycare, get 1 egg, then put in a new pokemon so I could get the next pokemon I needed. Ended up getting a shiny Hoothoot randomly!
I mean, personally, I just don’t have the free time to do some of the harder shiny hubts. That’s why Legends Arceus’ method is perfect for me- it takes a lot less time, it’s possible to run into a random shiny in the overworld (which is super exciting), and I don’t have to spend any more time doing it then I would if I was just normally playing the game
Yeah, plus there's not as much phasing. I'm doing all chain fishing shinies as a longish-term project, and despite chain fishing largely being considered ridiculously easy, it doesn't seem easy when you're on phase 14 for a 5% encounter.' Outbreaks are fun because I don't have to get 9 unnecessary shiny Qwilfish just to find the shiny I want.
hurts my heart that pokeradar is "too easy", I'm AWFUL at keeping my chains up 😭 I SWEAR ITS SO STRESSFUL LMFAO. but it's my favorite method for nostalgia alone, and also because I'd rather eat rocks than do breeding most of the time
Imo pokeradar's odds are balanced by how hard it is to keep up the chain in some areas. Going for goomy with the radar in that swampish area was hellish
From what I've heard the game rolls all the pokemon that you encounter in a outbreak when the outbreaks are generated, making it impossible to soft reset the outbreak, you have to try to keep the outbreak going, which I think is a 50% chance it stays the same.
Imo, I find shiny hunting in arceus really fun! Especially the outbreaks, but I’ve gotten most of my favorite pokemon shinies already so I’m going for the alpha variety. And I already have one, but now I’m trying to get alpha shiny infernape ( odds are 1/1000 )
Good luck! I might have to try for a shiny alpha at some point! I know gallade is easy in snowpoint temple because you can just enter and exit the temple right next to it to re roll it!
It speaks volumes that one tier is called “Valid” and you regularly say “this method is fun” when referring to lower tiers. I personally rate shiny hunting methods on fun factor rather than how difficult or tedious they are. And at the end of the day, only the person collecting is going to know for sure (you are an exception as you document your hunts) what method was used to obtain them. I also think that it’s important to consider that each individual hunt can be different and feel more rewarding depending on the circumstances at play. Random encounter full odds shiny doesn’t feel very satisfying but it’s really exciting. But going over odds on my Masuda Deino was exponentially more rewarding to me, it is my favorite shiny. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and I appreciated the very knowledgeable info in some of the more obscure shiny hunting methods.
I totally agree agree with your statement! I think the odds usually don’t play a factor it’s more of an experience! I simply rated the shiny methods as how difficult or easy they are to perform while also giving my personal opinions on some of them! I will say I should’ve named the middle tier something like “standard” rather than valid but my thought process was calling valid as in a valid way to hunt that isn’t super difficult
@@ThedomiNATION no shade here, I understood what you meant the minute you exclaimed you excitement on certain easy tier methods. And I can see how it could be implied that easier equals less valid but I hope most of the viewers understand the intent like I did. Keep up the good content, I’ll def be checking out more of your stuff.
I got a full odds shiny in Brilliant Diamond, a Wooper! However, at the time I was playing in the room with my family, so they got to witness me going dead silent for a solid minute from the surprise before I remembered to actually catch him instead of just staring into space. At my admittedly poor explanation of a Wooper as "he's goopy and pink!" my mom named him Taffy. Didn't evolve Taffy since I like Wooper's shiny better and took him to the champion with me.
I tried to get Pichu one time for my dex using SOS encounters and ended up getting shiny Pikachu. Not even 10 minutes later I got shiny Eevee from the egg I was hatching for Umbreon. The two Pokémon I hate the most are also my most prized possessions!
I know this has nothing to do with the subject of the video, but what is that background song starting around 30:00? I know that I know it but I can't remember where from.
@@ThedomiNATION Thank you!!! It was bothering me all day. And it is a great video! Gave me the push to start hunting again. Doing horde encounters in Y at the moment.
I mostly agree with what you said about Mass Outbreaks, but I also think they're extremely fun to do, especially not knowing what Outbreak you're gonna get
And that’s totally fine! I don’t think anyone shouldn’t do a specific method just because I put it in an easy tier the tiers are just to show what methods are easy or difficult!
@@ThedomiNATION And on their own yeah it's not the most satisfying way to get shinies, but the fact that I can collect a shiny dex in the game like this is pretty neat. I wouldn't want a method this easy in a mainline game but for something like this I don't mind. (Still gonna be difficult getting the shiny starters and Pokémon like Weavile though I bet)
My first ever shiny was a shiny Eevee that the breeder in Sun and Moon gave to me from an egg when I was 10, I named it Mountain Dew and evolved it into an Espeon. I remember it vividly, but no longer have the pokemon for some reason.
Soft-Resetting for Arceus in BD right now, as you say how awful SRs are in BDSP, can confirm, I feel the pain... 55 seconds per reset at the fastest....
Back in sun and moon I was full odds egg hatching a bunch of eggs to get a good nature cutiefly(not even trying to get the shiny). After like 20 eggs I said to myself “damn im probably gonna get a shiny before I even get the nature a want”. Deadass next egg I hatched was a shiny and needless to say that cutiefly was slapped into that Play-through team. (Still wasn’t a good nature but was good enough at that point)
the new mass outbreak method is my favourite ever. mostly because im lazy and impatient, although i did not appreciate shiny buizel not showing up for the full hour i was hunting for them last night. but also i did get h zoroark, sneasel and cascoon in the first outbreak that i did of them so thats probably karma.
I caught a full odds grubbin in USUM recently. I was actually looking for a 5% pichu, which happened to be rarer than a random encounter shiny that day, for the entire day.
I was looking for a Munchlax in BDSP and found a Heracross in a tree instead. Decided to try my luck for a couple of SRs even though it wasn't what I was looking for and found a shiny in like 12 SRs, lol. (I know there's Munchlax in the underground but I wasn't having much luck with those even with the Diglett method so I thought I'd try to find one in a tree to SR for) I agree with pretty much all of these. I had fun trying to figure out what method each square was supposed to represent before you explained them, lol.
That’s awesome on your shiny heracross! If you’re looking for munchlax, keep trying the tree you got the heracross at as herscross is more likely to appear on munchlax trees!
I didn't have Nintendo Online back when I first got Shield Version, so I had no way to trade with other people - to get a foreign Pokémon for the Masuda Method. But I was determined to get a Shiny Scorbunny and ended up hatching one in 41 eggs, it was my first Generation 8 Shiny! In US / UM while I was, technically, using the Masuda Method. I wanted a Skitty to use in my play-through - I got a Delcatty through a trade. I wasn't even trying and hatched a Shiny Skitty on the first egg. 😭
i remember wanting to breed a spheal in shield for a friend of mine. i had an eevee egg still waiting at the daycare, so i picked it up to switch the eevee with a spheal, decided to hatch the egg for fun, and boom! shiny eevee. it was with shiny charm, so not entirely full odds but no masuda method.
That’s still crazy! I actually found out that shiny charm only gives one extra roll for eggs to balance the odds if you use Masuda method so that’s still a 1/2048 shiny!
When I was playing Pokemon ultra moon, I got a random shiny mukrow in the cemetery on mele mele with full odds. It was the first time I'd ever gotten a shiny and I was so surprised.
I'm at the beginning of the video and I'm already predicting that I'm insane... And I'm a beginner. Edit 1: Fun fact, the only unown letters in gen 2 that can be shiny are I and V due to the letters being attached to the same thing shinies are. E2: First insane one just because I don't have a masuda ditto I can use. Own Tempo Rockruff in USUM. It's on pause for now. E3: I got a random shiny gift egg once because it was sitting in my box for months. E4: Huh, I thought the roamers would be higher. I have an raikou/entei hunt going in HGSS. E5: Rayquaza in Emerald can only be done in run-aways due to the broken rng. E6: You think the one battle is bad... Just wait until you hear about the late game version of hgss roamer hunts! Beating the E4 releases the roamers again if you beat them instead of catching them... And the game automatically saves after beating them. So you have to check the roamers, beat them if they aren't shiny, then fight the E4 to check again. Luckily for me, I'm doing the easy version. E7: Oh no, gen 4 double encounters- Getting two wild shiny pokemon on one screen through it crashes the game. E8: I got my shiny quilava (on the same save as my roamer hunt) from the starter hunt. It was fun. Oh there's me being called insane again! E9: Hordes are fun until you hunt where Zangoos and Seviper are. E10: The first pokemon I found in the wormhole was a shiny swana. I like doing shiny races with it because it's quick. E11: I have a sneasel hunt I want to do using the 500 method. E12: Outbreaks are really easy but I find them fun. I don't reset em most of the time though for the same reason you gave. E13: Roamers moved, I'm insane x 3. E14: There's the curry shiny that's not there, it's even got a special sparkle when it shows up. E15: There was a typo.
@@ThedomiNATION Thank you!! And don't mind the several edits, I'm getting my thoughts down as I'm watching. I'm waiting to be called insane again when manaphy pops up. 🤣
@@ThedomiNATION The Stadium 2 Dodrio mode let you play Gen 2 games at 300% normal speed. I hatched so many shinies while reading. It was a different kind of hunting.
ive played and replayed pokemon games so much and my first ever shiny that i found was a Floatzel in ultra space first encounter. i was so excited that i screamed and woke up my sister =))
Nice! I apologize if my thoughts on ultra wormholes seem a bit negative. As long as the shiny floatzel is special to you that’s all that matters! Plus it’s a really cool shiny I hunted for Buizel for my shining pearl play through!
Me and the missus did SR hunts for our starters in both SuMo and USUM. I could've sworn SuMo was close to 3 minutes 30 seconds give or take and it was BRUTALLY slow. I got Rowlet in 80 hours however my poor partner, didn't get her Popplio until 200 hours. We ended up taking it in turns and were blown away when we checked the time in the 3DS Activity Logs 😅 And yet we were sick enough to still do it again in USUM but they definitely felt faster for sure. Since then however I've been overly obsessed with having both my Living and Shiny Living Dex collections in Premier Balls wherever possible, so I haven't bothered with starter/gift pokemon hunts since. Also I was never super fussed on hunting in Legends, notable again because of the Premier Ball obsession, seeing as they aren't available there 🙃
I think there is a method to obtain shiny roamers in Emerald by using a glitch in the Battle Tower. Something like encountering a shiny and then dying to it, and then finding the roaming pokemon guarantees it's shiny. I'm probably missing something in there, but that would essentially make it just a bit more difficult than full odds hunting.
As stated in the video I did not include glitches or otherwise unintended ways to obtain shinies. But that is an interesting thing I might have to look into!
Back in Gen 6 it took me 1400 eggs to get me a shiny Klefki. It was one IV short of perfect so worth the agonizing wait. Also had a Shiny Adamant Male Ralts in only 8 eggs recently
I'd put full odds egg hunting in difficult and breeding in gen 2 in easy personally. Full odds eggs are annoying but there's some reset hunts with dialogue you have to wade through that give them a run for their money. Especially in later gens where hatching an egg takes almost no time at all and you don't have to fiddle with boxes. And you won't phase, so that's nice. And if you've done shiny breeding in gen 2 you still have to know what you're doing and you can get unlucky, and hatching eggs take time. But it's certainly way faster than a full odds RE hunt, by miles. Fun fact, the free Togepi egg in gen 2 is the only full odds egg shiny that you can hunt, because of how breeding works in that gen.
Glad you do this video cause deff get the point across and till this day shinies on 3rd gen are the most difficult to get no easy pass or charm just pure REs or SRs too many and hatchs, new to the channel and already liking it a lot
Breedable being the easiest tier makes sense since that is the easiest way to get those pokemon shiny in the vast majority of games. Yeah you get a free haxorus, gible and dratini in gen 5 bur those are locked behind a ton of work and it's still easier to masuda method than to go through all the hoops. The only exception might be gyarados since you can get him with 4 badges in gen 2 and 4 and transfer him up but still imo easier to just breed since magikarp is the fastest hatching egg and is available in most games.
Legends Arceus non mass outbreaks random encounters is also a pretty easy method, but is actually quite fun. Mass outbreaks feels like Pokemon Go odds.
Yeah I agree! However I still haven’t found a shiny in this game yet and I’m currently hunting voltorb with over 2000 seen, not including all the other Pokémon I run by in the process lol
as someone who has shiny hunted for many many years because i too love the harder hunts, i have many opinions and agreed with many of yours, i would like to share some. ~outbreaks are fun, they are fast but thats the joy because race your friends and see who can collect a large team of shinies the fastest. ~alpha shinies are also a thing in that game, those are much harder to get but they are just resets depending on which one you go for. ~how do you feel about the start reset for generation 3 and 4? they have a chance to give you uncatchable shiny pokemon so id like to know where youd place that haha ~keep up the good work, i watched til the very end and ill give you my sub cuz i love the shiny hunt community
My bro got a random shiny Spheal in Arceus at normal odds, then started doing outbreaks after beating the main story and got like 3 in 1 day. I didn't even know you could reset outside of them either so that's new to me. He was doing it by just going there, catching/killing all 10, warp back to a village and repeat since he wasn't looking for anything specific.
Correction : you can get shiny shedinja in dynamax dens in Pokemon sword and shield, but without the assistance of a seed tracker its probably gonna be very difficult, but not impossible, to hunt! As someone who has attempted to legitimately hunt a shiny from dynamax dens i really dont recommend it, it took me nearly 2 months to get a shiny onix lol
lol I was thinking about that. Funny enough I was considering doing a max raid battle hunt but I would want to time skip each day to refresh the raids rather than defeating all of them! I feel like it’ll still be a very tedious process though!
@@ThedomiNATION Yea that's what i did, i just did all the raids on my map each time, it did take forever and i failed quite a few of them because ... Yk martin is a big burden but yea it was worth it, i screamed so loudly when i saw the yellow snake, it took me around 5,000 raids.
@@ThedomiNATION yeah i’m pretty sure i’ve watched that video to get the info, just wanted to have an update in the comments for anyone that haven’t watched it
I was doing a Masuda egg hunt for Scorbunny in Sword and Shield, and I got to about 40 hours in when I ended up putting it on indefinite pause cause it was taking waaaay to long. I come back a few months ago only to find out at some point I'd accidentally swapped the Japanese ditto I had for an English one. I didn't want the hours I'd spent to go to waste, so I kept on trucking with it full odds. It took another 100 hours of hatching. Probably the worst thing I've ever experienced.
For the full odds Egg Hunt, I wasn't even trying to hunt, I was simply filling out my Pokedex in Violet. I was missing a Bounsweet and didn't care enough to find one in the wild, so I just breed a Steenee or whatever and just hatched the egg, was not expecting my very first Shiny Egg Pokemon to appear just like that. I'm not a fan of Egg Hunting since it takes a bit long to set up for my taste, but I never forget the excitement of getting that Shiny Bounsweet, even posted it on my twitter.
i like the outbreaks, occassionally they take a few hours (like 2 hrs max really) for me so i feel like they're worth it. Oh also all pokemon react to u different so its cool. but yeah the shinies dont give me that much excitment and i wish it werent an option anyway 😅. ...Anyway tho, it is addicting, if i see a good outbreak i kinda wanna do it
@@ThedomiNATION naw i agree w ya! i want shinies to feel like i worked for them so i enjoy harder hunts overall. Tho not like 1/8092 odds 😂 im at 14000 for celebi
I randomly hatched a shiny Bagon in my Ultra Moon game while breeding to make a competitive Salamence. It was so shocking as it was like maybe 15 eggs in!
Yo perfect timing! I’m hunting for a female shiny Zorua/Zoroark to use on my team in Arceus. After 3 days of no outbreaks I found a male shiny in my first outbreak. I got another outbreak not long after but no shiny in it. If I get a second male shiny I’ll probably just accept it and finish the game, but I wanted to name her after a specific character. This’ll make great background noise while I try to get an outbreak. My personal rating of outbreaks are if you’ll accept anything they’re “Too Easy” but if you’re looking for something specific it’s “Valid Method”. I say this because in only two days, before getting any Zorua outbreak at all, I got 5 other outbreak shinnies: Kirlia (now Gallade), Yanma, Duskull, Mr. Mime, and Chimeco. The day after, a few hours before my first Zorua outbreak, I also got a shiny Budew. This is far and away the quickest and largest amount of shinnies I’ve gotten from a single game.
@@ThedomiNATION er Zorua outbreak yet. If I’m not mistaken what’s in an outbreak is actually predetermined, you cannot reset for them. I tried this during my first one and always got the same level 28 male. With how rare some outbreaks can be (literally taking me 3 days to get my first Zorua one at all) I WISH they were able to be reset. The high odds kind of balances that out for the rare ones. Meanwhile if I wanted to I’m sure I could amass an army of shiny Roserades by hunting Budews.
@@ThedomiNATION They are predetermined each time you enter a zone, but if you get the "You found the reported outbreak" message, and then return to the village and go back to the outbreak, it resets the set spawns
i'd personally put Friend Safari in "Too Easy", mainly because the odds are less than 1% (my threshold for "are we even shiny hunting") also because i shiny hunted in one Friend Safari for several hours (like around 8 or 9 total) and got two shinies, neither of which were the one i was hunting for |:(
That is a good point! I usually go off of odds like that but it was a tough one for me because of how fast the encounter rate is. Definitely a borderline one between the two!
Yeah lol we found out how the catch combo method works like a few weeks after I made this video. I even have a video on the actual catch combo method 😂
My favorite shiny ive gotten was a (new) full odds onix i got from rock smashing for fossils, this was before oras and you best believe that i evolved it and got the steelixite Thats why i have a place in my heart for mega steelix since it was my first shiny mega ✨
Actually, the better shiny odds don't apply to every Pokémon that spawns! They only apply to the next Pokémon that spawns of the same species you're chaining. I think at the time of this video we didn't actually know that, but it does make catch combing more difficult - particularly when you're keeping in mind that the chain can break by a Pokémon feeling if you're not careful, and that it becomes way more time-consuming when you're looking for a rare spawn (You do NOT want to know how long I've spent trying to get a shiny Bulbasaur) Also, maybe I'm just really bad, but I swear Pokéradar is so hard ; - ; I spent so many hours in X and Y trying to get a shiny Absol or literally just any shiny and I spent like 10 hours without getting anything and only getting a chain of 40 like once
I agree! I actually hope they don’t stick with the overworld shinies they have been doing for the last couple games as I find it way more enjoyable when you aren’t finding a shiny every 30 minutes!
DexNav doesn't necessarily need chaining. It is more dependent on your Search Level. The only time chaining (killing/catching) matters is on the 50th or 100th encounter in the chain. If you're going for strictly DexNav without shiny charm, after a Search Level of 40, you have a better chance the game forces a shiny over randomly generating one.
I've been on a big gen 2 breeding kick lately. The odds fluctuates between 1/64, 1/128 and 1/256 based on gender ratio and the shiny parents gender. I would put it on the same level as masuda method personally. I went 13 hours without a shiny then got 2 in the next 3 hours, went a day without one and then got 2 the next day after work.
Pro tip: That method does NOT require a Shiny parent. It only requires a parent with "Shiny Genes", which means any Pokemon with exactly 10 Defense DVs and either 10 or 2 Special DVs can work as a Shiny parent. This + cloning glitch make it a LOT easier to find a Ditto that works as a Shiny parent. Just clone a masterball for convenience + 40 rare candies, safe, find any wild ditto, catch it with a masterball, feed it with rare candies until it hits lvl 50, check out its defense and special DVs, and if they dont fit, reset the game and repeat until they do fit. And if they fit eventually, congrats, you now have a shiny breeding ditto. And because breeding with ditto skips the gender ratio factor, this ditto will ALWAYS create 1/64 odds eggs.
Up until legends arceus outbreaks and lets go chaining I had found 4 full odds shinies that I was not hunting for. Rattata in lets go, Caterpie in Firered, Haunter and Buneary in Legends arceus. I have a full box of shinies from just outbreaks in Legends. It's fun, but If I'm being honest it really just lessens the meaning of a shiny. A shiny is still a shiny, but I wish it was just more rare.
Congrats on the shinies! And yeah I agree I think the whole point of shinies is that they are rare so when you take that away I personally am not as interested in them
There's also curry hunting in SwSh. Nothing too special, just a little harder than resets or encounters depending on what dish you make. Great video though!
I totally forgot about that! It’s a pretty hard method too as the Pokémon are not affected by the shiny charm and you’re not even guaranteed a Pokémon every time when you make the curry!
with us finding out that that the 1/270 ish odds fir catch combos in lets go only effects the next pokemon of the same species does this make that shiny hunting method valid now?
I think in most situations the hunting method isn’t worth using as you’ll probably get shinies faster just doing it as we have been all this time. I think I would still put let’s go hunting in too easy though as regardless you’ll only be hunting for a few hours to get a shiny in those games anyway!
@@ThedomiNATION oh i agree about doing it the way we have been, after finding out the odds thing though it made me feel a lot better about some of the rare spawn shinies without repels i got 😅😅
@@kysonwebster9600 yeah same! Pretty much every shiny I’ve gotten in Let’s go has been a 1/1024 and this whole time I thought they were 1/273 chance lol
Hunting just normally in Arceus should probably be in "Too Easy" or borderline valid, as you get such an obscene amount of pokemon seen in quite a very short amount of time. Depending on the rairty of the pokemon you go for it's about 20 seconds per mon or faster; for example, for a specific Pokemon, IIsaw around 19 Qwilfish in only 3 minutes and likewise 7 Tediursa in only a mniute and a half. So in general it's the same speed as dark grass encounters in BW or depending on the Pokemon it's even faster.
I’m hunting for full odds voltorb in arceus and have seen 1000 so far. It’s taken me about 6 hours to do so. Pretty much a standard hunt. Also I haven’t had the luxury to find a random shiny yet even just going around the map to look for Pokémon lol
@@i.m.crazee5195 it’s not too bad because it’s pretty quick to go back and forth from jubilife to reset spawns and I can fly to the moon view arena which is right by where voltorb spawns and I’m guaranteed 3 each time regardless of time of day plus the few extras from the shaking crates!
I think the Go shiny methods are really simple: Easiest are Raid Days and Research days where its 3 hours of 1 or a few species boosted to 1/10 odds, then ComDay 1/20-25 same with legendary raids, then permaboosted species in the wild like lickitung and bronzor, and finally wild encounters, regular research, and eggs are all tied around 1/450-1/512 with masuda method
There’s also Pokémon that are 1/64 all the time, Pokémon that are 1/128 all the time, and Pokémon that are 1/256 all the time. With some Pokémon changing odds for certain events. We just had weather week that allegedly raised some of the castform forms to 1/64 while making some 1/128 and castform is normally a 1/512 shiny. These fluctuating shiny rates along with the new addition to the 1/256 rate and the randomness at which niantic chooses what odds to boost shinies to for some events, it would’ve either been too complex to rank them, or obsolete after a few months. (I’d also get tons of comments saying I’m wrong about the ranking because said person got this shiny fast on this day, when they either boosted the odds temporarily or the person just got lucky)
@@ThedomiNATION yeahhh i was mostly including permaboost for 1/64 all-time but I forget that they DO change odds often for events, and the changes are never consistent like you mentioned with Castform. I personally got 0 shiny castforms from this event LOL but yeah event-based shiny odds aren’t even worth discussing because they have no consistency you’re right
I am doing the save corruption Jirachi Bonus Disc. Can confirm that the corruption works every time. You just have to make sure you are in the right file when you pick it back up because slot A is the one that corrupts. It will always work if you are careful, but you can ensure it if you were lazy at the end of your last session by starting your session by doing the corruption without getting Jirachi. Then you are definitely in the right slot abd are good to go
I will never forget the first shiny I got in Omega Ruby, it was right after i got pokeballs and a random shiny zigzagoon that I caught. Unfortunately I reset my game so now he’s gone. But never forgotten.
My first shiny was a shiny luvdisc in pokemon x back in like 2014...it literally only took me 20-30 encounters but i was so excited for my first shiny...i also got a shiny weedle in pokemon x too...i havent gotten a shiny ever since and i wanna get back into it lol
I got a full odds shiny Totodile Egg in BDSP when I was trying to breed perfect IVs. The fortunate part is that the Eggs sat in my PC for months before I decided to hatch the remainders (I considered releasing them before changing my mind). Feraligatr is my favourite Pokémon so I lost my mind that day lol
@@ThedomiNATION Unfortunately, the one Stat that wasn't 31 was attack, and it was single-digit. Great to get a shiny, but of course the one bad Stat was the most important one.
Going 22k resets dry for my shiny Rowlet in Pokemon Sun, I can 100% attest that I am indeed not a sane person and I should not have attempted that. XD I've tried to get back into some casual shiny-hunting over the years, but that mint owl definitely broke me. I found your channel and have been enjoying these videos while yearning for some shinies, so I'm hoping to see something shine once again!
Dang that sucks about the rowlet! I remember seeing on Twitter someone finally got their shiny starter right before sword and shield came out. So even though they bought sun and moon day one, they didn’t get to play it until nearly 3 years later because of how long it took them to get their shiny starter! It’s definitely a tough hunt especially if you get really unlucky like that. Maybe one day it’ll show up!
@@ThedomiNATION Yeesh, when you put it into perspective like that, my 7 months seems like child's play. haha And I apologize if I didn't clarify properly, but I completed the hunt in 22k resets. I am (very thankfully) not still hunting it, but it's taken me this long after finding it (5 years later lol) to even consider some casual shiny-hunting again. Granted, real life also had an impact on my ability to hunt, but that mint owl will always haunt me. XD I wish you luck with your hunts as well, as I'll be tuning in for some motivation!
@@MrPokemonfreak2009 congrats on the shiny rowlet then lol! And I wouldn’t say your 7 months would be like child’s play! People hunt at different paces and the person I saw on Twitter might’ve just been on and off hunting it periodically. 7 months is brutal for any shiny hunt!
Last year, I hatched a full odds shiny Absol in Pokemon Moon when I was breeding for a 6IV Jolly Critsol. It ended up having 5 IVs, with its bad IV being Attack 🙈🤦🏼♀️ I'm bottle capping it though. I was going to bottle-cap it in Alola, but now, I think I'll wait until I port it over. I also EV-trained the hundreds of Absol breejects (with near perfect IVs) in Pelago and wonder traded them away. I even have some of them easy badges. Figured I'd make someone's day by sending them a competitive-ready Pokémon... not that they could use it competitively, since Critsol is banned by Smogon. However, it can be used as part of a play through team from level 1 in any new savegame game an Alolan Absol can go to. To people seeing this comment - If any of y'all received an awesome Critsol from OT Ana, it's 100% legit 😀
If only your analysis of Legends of Arceus mass outbreak hunting were true. You can’t just reset before a mass outbreak to recycle the encounters. They are fixed, so getting another attempt at a specific shiny depends on whether you get another outbreak.
I think shinies in Pokémon mystery dungeon DX are a missed opportunity. There’s only a handful of Pokémon that can even be shiny. They should’ve made it so that any Pokémon has a random chance of being shiny but only if you had the friend area for them and they would be guaranteed to join you. Similar to how shinies work in Pokémon rumble for the Wii. It could’ve created a whole new community of shiny hunters in that game and it would’ve been great
I tried masuda method hunting sobble in shield in like 2020 without the shiny charm and probably hatched like 1k eggs without getting it, with the hunt then carrying into violet (the first game where I actually got the shiny charm) I then hatched like 100-200 eggs and finally got it
I caught like 250 Vulpix in Let's Go and ran around the world for an hour before I gave up on Shiney hunting. I try beginner level shiny hunting methods at least once a generation and I never got a shiny from trying to get one. I have a ton from Legends Arceus cause just running around spawns so many Pokemon you're bound to get one every so often, but after 2 or 3 hours of the "easy" methods each generation I generally give up. I remember also going for Salazzle in Moon the first time I played and it took me like 40 spawns to get a female salazzle and I decided to just take the one that could evolve over the shiny cause I didn't know when I'd find another female one. I tried again and got over 100 in and and only saw 1 or 2 female ones that whole time and I realized I didn't even want the shiny if I couldn't evolve it and gave up, lol
I actually did a full odds egg hunt in sun and moon for a shiny rowlett since I misunderstood how to masuda hunt and thought it would work with a same race ditto but since I was young and dumb I did it for over 900 eggs and got extremely lucky and found it.
That’s awesome! And such s good shiny too! Congrats!
I was having the opposite luck, I did masuda method w/ charm for absol for about 2200 eggs before I finally gave up
Thankfully I got it later in shield in only about 160 eggs :)
did this exact same hunt when i was younger but with togepi in soulsilver 😭😭

I did the sinjoh ruins hunt for giratina. Took me 4 months of non stop mashing through the cutscenes and resets. When I finally got it I was yelling so much my family thought I needed to go to the er
Getting shiny Pokemon in Legends Arceus is the most fun I've had getting a Shiny Pokemon in a long time. Because most of the time it's accidental, I'm getting what is close to full odds on Pokemon I just randomly pass
Nice! I haven’t found my first shiny in legends yet but I’m currently hunting for hisuian voltorb!
i feel that! i was hunting for a shiny alpha sneasel and got about 12 random shinies before it just flying overhead

I totally agree hunting for shinies is cool but nothing beats finding a random shiny!
I found a random shiny hisuian zorua the other day and freaked the fuck out
I've been playing for years and have never found one on accident. Ig I'm just unlucky
I found a shiny drowzee while looking for tera raids. The adrenaline I had.
Every single shiny I have ever gotten with the exception of weavile in scarlet, has been obtained without hunting.
I don't have the insane patience required for shiny hunting, especially at full odds.
1:Ratatta, gen 2
2: Miltank, gen 6
3: Maril, Gen 9
The rest I didn't catch. Stupid pidgey with no pokeballs. 😢
I remember my first shiny, it was Gen 3 (full odds, wasn't hunting) and of course it was a zubat from one of the caves! He became a crobat with all the love I gave him, and now I have (almost) every shiny you can hunt for
Nice! My first shiny was a random bidoof in pearl but I sadly do not have the copy anymore 😭
That’s awesome! Congrats!
And that’s great! I’m just a weirdo who likes harder hunts lol
What about space time distortions?
@@tylerpinniger9958 those are pretty much the same as random encounters but you get different Pokémon.

having a tier called "valid hunting method" completely unironically while saying the tiers are objective and not opinions pretty much embodies what so many people hate about "hardcore" shiny hunters lol
I probably should’ve called it “standard” but I called it valid as in a valid way to hunt for shinies that isn’t too hard. I can see how it can be taken the wrong way though
why would you watch a tier list like this and then be upset that someone didn’t say that your 1/300 shiny isn’t super hard to get
@@napkinx4341 you should probably work on your reading comprehension, my comment had nothing to do with how easy or hard a given method is and everything to do with pointing out the snobbery of implying only certain methods are "valid" ways to hunt
That’s awesome! Congrats!
Bro same, but got shiny pichu
I mean, personally, I just don’t have the free time to do some of the harder shiny hubts. That’s why Legends Arceus’ method is perfect for me- it takes a lot less time, it’s possible to run into a random shiny in the overworld (which is super exciting), and I don’t have to spend any more time doing it then I would if I was just normally playing the game
Yeah, plus there's not as much phasing. I'm doing all chain fishing shinies as a longish-term project, and despite chain fishing largely being considered ridiculously easy, it doesn't seem easy when you're on phase 14 for a 5% encounter.'
Outbreaks are fun because I don't have to get 9 unnecessary shiny Qwilfish just to find the shiny I want.
Repel trick in RSE is amazing, because with the acro bike, you hop and never run out of repel since youre not taking steps
Evolving it is not the only way to get shanija. You can get it via Dynamax raids.

hurts my heart that pokeradar is "too easy", I'm AWFUL at keeping my chains up 😭 I SWEAR ITS SO STRESSFUL LMFAO. but it's my favorite method for nostalgia alone, and also because I'd rather eat rocks than do breeding most of the time
Just because a shiny hunting method is easy doesn’t mean you shouldn’t do it! I’ve done quite a few poke radar hunts myself!

My first ever shiny was a shiny Eevee that the breeder in Sun and Moon gave to me from an egg when I was 10, I named it Mountain Dew and evolved it into an Espeon. I remember it vividly, but no longer have the pokemon for some reason.

I caught a full odds grubbin in USUM recently. I was actually looking for a 5% pichu, which happened to be rarer than a random encounter shiny that day, for the entire day.
Congrats!
I was looking for a Munchlax in BDSP and found a Heracross in a tree instead.
Decided to try my luck for a couple of SRs even though it wasn't what I was looking for and found a shiny in like 12 SRs, lol.
(I know there's Munchlax in the underground but I wasn't having much luck with those even with the Diglett method so I thought I'd try to find one in a tree to SR for)
I agree with pretty much all of these.
I like the outbreak method, but I don't save before going to check them out, to make it more fair
As somebody who has a shiny living dex to uphold, I appreciate the easy shinies that methods like outbreaks and wormholes give
Totally! Good luck on your living Dex!
When I was playing Pokemon ultra moon, I got a random shiny mukrow in the cemetery on mele mele with full odds. It was the first time I'd ever gotten a shiny and I was so surprised.
Awesome! Random shinies are the best!
E7: Oh no, gen 4 double encounters-
Getting two wild shiny pokemon on one screen through it crashes the game.
Good luck to you with that! I think there’s a handful of full odds egg hatches I’m gonna end up doing one of which is manaphy!

I think mass outbreaks are great since not everyone has the time to devote to full hunts
Back in Gen 6 it took me 1400 eggs to get me a shiny Klefki. It was one IV short of perfect so worth the agonizing wait. Also had a Shiny Adamant Male Ralts in only 8 eggs recently
Congrats!
You talked a lot about how much you enjoy the different methods, maybe that could be an idea for another tier list
I was actually really struggling about making this a best methods list based on my opinion or a hardest methods list!
~how do you feel about the start reset for generation 3 and 4? they have a chance to give you uncatchable shiny pokemon so id like to know where youd place that haha
~keep up the good work, i watched til the very end and ill give you my sub cuz i love the shiny hunt community
I personally don’t think the uncatchables make the starter resets harder just a little more frustrating lol
Yeah I feel like they didn’t have to give you such a high shiny chance for those. It would’ve been really cool doing them at standard shiny odds!

Oh but when I first started Sword I did 12 full odds eggs for Electrike cause I'd just found the nursery and got him shiny so that was neat.
Oh also all pokemon react to u different so its cool. but yeah the shinies dont give me that much excitment and i wish it werent an option anyway 😅. ...Anyway tho, it is addicting, if i see a good outbreak i kinda wanna do it
And that’s totally fine! It’s just a personal opinion I have that’s honestly probably pretty unpopular lol but I definitely understand the appeal!
Congrats! Hopefully you’ll get a female one soon!
@@MarceCloud39 you actually can reset outbreaks the spawns are not pre determined! I’d recommend looking up a video on it!
@@ThedomiNATION They are predetermined each time you enter a zone, but if you get the "You found the reported outbreak" message, and then return to the village and go back to the outbreak, it resets the set spawns
@@withered1835 thanks for the clarification!
i'd personally put Friend Safari in "Too Easy", mainly because the odds are less than 1% (my threshold for "are we even shiny hunting")
also because i shiny hunted in one Friend Safari for several hours (like around 8 or 9 total) and got two shinies, neither of which were the one i was hunting for |:(
That is a good point! I usually go off of odds like that but it was a tough one for me because of how fast the encounter rate is. Definitely a borderline one between the two!
1:03:53 It’s pronounced as Arkoos.
Love the idea of all the diffrent hunting methods. Is there a website / wikipedia detailing all the shiny hunting methods with available pokemon?
I’m not sure if it would go into as much detail as I did but I believe serebii lists all the hunting methods that increase your shiny odds
im surprised how new this is but still has the incorrect way ppl thought the l Lets Go method worked
Yeah lol we found out how the catch combo method works like a few weeks after I made this video. I even have a video on the actual catch combo method 😂
My favorite shiny ive gotten was a (new) full odds onix i got from rock smashing for fossils, this was before oras and you best believe that i evolved it and got the steelixite
Thats why i have a place in my heart for mega steelix since it was my first shiny mega ✨
That’s awesome! I once found a full odds crabrawler while but trying to get some berries lol! Random shinies are always the best!
to make mass outbreak fun I am trying to get the alpha shiny. With this I think it's pretty balanced and can be valid
That’s a good way to look about it!
Actually, the better shiny odds don't apply to every Pokémon that spawns! They only apply to the next Pokémon that spawns of the same species you're chaining. I think at the time of this video we didn't actually know that, but it does make catch combing more difficult - particularly when you're keeping in mind that the chain can break by a Pokémon feeling if you're not careful, and that it becomes way more time-consuming when you're looking for a rare spawn (You do NOT want to know how long I've spent trying to get a shiny Bulbasaur)
Also, maybe I'm just really bad, but I swear Pokéradar is so hard ; - ; I spent so many hours in X and Y trying to get a shiny Absol or literally just any shiny and I spent like 10 hours without getting anything and only getting a chain of 40 like once
Yep! I made a full video on the Method once it was discovered how to do it correctly!
I feel your pain, I have a few shiny Bulbasaur in Let's Go, but I'm still going for a female to cover both Venusaur forms.
the research level in dex nav goes up even if you run away, you just have to interact with it without it running away
i was working on a living dex in x/y and just bred like 2 caterpie full odds and one of them was shiny! i wasnt expecting it at all!
That’s awesome! Congrats!
I wholeheartedly agree with the gen 6 starter hunt. I wasn't even hunting for a shiny, only a female starter, and it took me 2 days.
Dang that’s terrible. I wanted to start my moon file with a female rowlet and I got lucky it was like the first or second one for me!
Imo Full odds no charm no breeding random encounters are the best and rewarding imo
I agree! I actually hope they don’t stick with the overworld shinies they have been doing for the last couple games as I find it way more enjoyable when you aren’t finding a shiny every 30 minutes!
Dynamax advenures is also only 4 encounters per every 15-20 minutes. I think it could qualify for a valid method
@@ThedomiNATION Voltorb is a bit rarer than the other ones since you can only get a couple guranteed spawns per Jubilife reset.
I think the Go shiny methods are really simple:
Easiest are Raid Days and Research days where its 3 hours of 1 or a few species boosted to 1/10 odds, then ComDay 1/20-25 same with legendary raids, then permaboosted species in the wild like lickitung and bronzor, and finally wild encounters, regular research, and eggs are all tied around 1/450-1/512 with masuda method
I personally got 0 shiny castforms from this event LOL
but yeah event-based shiny odds aren’t even worth discussing because they have no consistency you’re right
40:30 The thing about Colosseum is there is no wild pokemon at all. So it's XD only.
That’s what I thought but I wasn’t sure lol. I’ve only played colosseum once and have XD so I’m more accustomed to XD
I think Pokémon Go is a valid place to hunt Shiny Pokémon.
I didn’t say it wasn’t! I just couldn’t include GO and I explained why in the video so no sense in repeating myself here!
22:44 i was IV breeding for a genger in the BDSP battle tower and randomly got a shiny. 5iv, lol
That’s awesome! Congrats!
Maybe one day you’ll find another!
My first shiny was a shiny luvdisc in pokemon x back in like 2014...it literally only took me 20-30 encounters but i was so excited for my first shiny...i also got a shiny weedle in pokemon x too...i havent gotten a shiny ever since and i wanna get back into it lol
Awesome! And yeah go for it shiny hunting is great!
Yes! This is the video I was wanting you to make after the last one!
19:17 the only soft reset I’ve done is in bdsp for arceus, it took me over 13000 encounters
It’s a tough one but congrats on getting the god of shinies!
21:16 Yay! That means my Emerald shiny Muk is very rare since I've hatched it there full odds.
Fine, it was an accidental hatch, but still. XD
Still absolutely insane! Congrats on that one!
That’s awesome! Congrats!
I did get a full odds egg shiny while breeding for a perfect IV Mawile in ORAS. Even had 5 31s. Good times.
That’s awesome! I thought about trying to breed a perfect iv dratini in a beast ball. Maybe I should pick that back up and see if I get it shiny!
@@ThedomiNATION Unfortunately, the one Stat that wasn't 31 was attack, and it was single-digit. Great to get a shiny, but of course the one bad Stat was the most important one.
@@hotarusama5826 at least you could always send it to gen 7 or 8 and use a bottle cap on it!
love the longer videos, the sarcastic commentary makes it funnier too
Thank you!
Completely agree c: I would put outbreak in the easiest from too easy but I think that just because I'm having the worse luck with this method
Yeah honestly even if you get unlucky the worst you go is a few hours. Which IMO is very similar to chain fishing which is also in the easier tier
If you save right before entering the outbreak area you can reset them.
I like easy shiny hunts like legend of Arceus or Pokémon crystal I’m just curious what’s your opinion on Pokémon mystery dungeon XD shiny hunting
It could’ve created a whole new community of shiny hunters in that game and it would’ve been great
@@ThedomiNATION Me and my girlfriend do shiny races and I agree
I tried masuda method hunting sobble in shield in like 2020 without the shiny charm and probably hatched like 1k eggs without getting it, with the hunt then carrying into violet (the first game where I actually got the shiny charm) I then hatched like 100-200 eggs and finally got it
Congrats!
"Ruby & Sapphire soft reset takes 5 seconds" *dead battery message enters the chat*
If that happens you shouldn’t do soft resets as you’ll most likely never get a shiny
Wait... theres a guaranteed shiny ponyta now? Rest in fucking pieces "THERE IT IS!!!" guy
