Interesting. Was watching this and thinking this can't possibly be it, because it doesn't look like Sarku pre-marinates their chicken or beef in sauce. Instead they add a scoop of teriyaki sauce after mid-cook. But now I guess I'll have to try this.
@@hunterhenryk I think the chicken is marinated in the back. I’ve read other RUclips comments from people who have worked there that say the chicken is marinated with a dough hook constantly stirring the chicken. That’s what I do too and I marinate this way for 2 hours. It’s very close.
I’ve made this twice now. It’s legit just like the one in the mall but I feel it’s healthier and you control the quality of the protein. Use a good non-stick pan and make sure it’s pre-heated to high (maybe not all the way to high) the first time I made this I used a crappy pan and while it tasted ok, it wasn’t caramelize like it’s supposed to, I still made 3 meals out of it, the second time I was shocked, I used a good non-stick pan and oh my lord… also I added a tsp of brown sugar the second time I made it and for the veggies I just sautéed well shopped carrots and broccoli. But yeah, thanks for this recipe, I’m going to be making on the regular now. Also, the first time I didn’t thinly sliced the chicken thighs and the second time I made sure to thinly cut them and it was much better.
Wow this recipe is DA BOMB dude. My local Sarku moved awhile ago and been craving some. Ill be damned if this isnt practically spot on. You nailed it with the thigh meat, same texture and tenderness. You sir are a magician, that or you got your hands on their recipe lol many thanks!
You had me at baking soda…ahhhh you know the SECRET! Yes folks the baking soda must NOT be skipped…if you know you know! It’ll be the reason why you don’t know why it’s not giving you the results you know you want…
Works well for beef too! I'm trying to make a Beef Chow Fun video, but struggling to get a hold of just the right size of rice noodles, but stay tuned! The recipe is amazing and you'll want to try.
I see someone commented about being able to “just skip around” but there still is no amounts…. Knowing the ingredients by skipping around is fine but it’s difficult to replicate without the measurements….
Great question and feedback! I hope this helps and enjoy! 🤤 Ingredients: 5 Chicken Thighs 1.5 Cup Soy Sauce (Low Sodium Kikkoman) 1 Cup Water 1/8 Cup Xiaoxing Wine 1 tsp Garlic Powder 1.5 tsp White Pepper 1 tsp Baking Soda 1/4 cup Canola Oil 1/2 to 1 head Cabbage 5 Carrots 3 cloves Garlic (Optional for veggies) 5 cups Rice
So I am hoping that Baking soda is bicarb soda here in Australia! Trying it tonight :) EDIT: JUST TRIED IT AND IT WAS DELICIOUS. Aussie folk, use Bicarb not baking powder. Never had Sarku but this was delicious.
@@whatsfordinnerbryan bro... this comment is a year old, lol. But I still remember making this and it was amazing. So thanks for the reminder, I gotta make it again soon.
I remember when I they first brought Sarku to one of my local mall back in 2009😭 They used to load it with more chicken for a reasonable price. What a great time❤
Great question! I don’t know but I think if you vacuum sealed the chicken or put it in an air tight bag with as much air removed it would likely freeze well. The rice and veggies likely will be mushy after freezing but the chicken probably tastes good still. Give it a try and let me know how it works out! Otherwise I’ll be making lots more videos here and will try to revisit! 👍🏼
Garlic is a good addition to cook with it. And it depends but about 3-5 minutes. You don't want to overcook it but you want to make sure the carrots do soften up. The cabbage will cook down quickly. 🙂
Sarku Japan doesn't do it, but you may also look to add some dried shrimp (commonly found at asian markets) and garlic for flavor while cooking the cabbage.
There might be some garlic but yep very simple and straight forward! It is usually good in the fridge for up to about a week. The rice starts to get a bit hit or miss around day 5.
Cooking down the marinade and adding come cornstarch is a good way to make some sauce. 👍🏻 You'll definitely want to add some cornstarch to thicken it up.
Looks like about 668 calories per serving. 37.7g Protein. The sodium and sugar values will be inaccurate since not everything in the marinade 100% transfers into the chicken, but I hope this help!
Your recipe is awesome and will go very high.of course it will be very tasty to eat.😋 I love it .I will definitely try it.You will tell me in the comments. How do you like my recipe?Thanks..😋👍👏
I don't personally taste ginger, but if you'd like you might try adding some ginger powder or a slice of ginger while cooking to add some ginger flavor. 👍🏻
Absolutely. I’m willing to give this a shot though. I wouldn’t recommend having rice sit in a container for 6 days. 1 day is about the most I would be able to do considering rice is a hot bed for bacteria.
For this teriyaki recipe we focused more on the saltiness side with soy sauce. Other recipes like the grilled teriyaki video do use some brown sugar in the marinade. Might be worth trying to add some sugar and seeing if that more closely matches what you like. 👍🏻

Do you have to use canola oil or can it be olive oil/avocado oil?

did you say one half cup or one and a half cup of low sodium soy sauce? just made this and it is so salty lol

I wonder if cooking down the marinade to kill off any bacteria from the chicken and thickening a little with corn starch would work.
