    Mathew Fraser earned the title of Fittest Man on Earth at the 2016 Reebok CrossFit Games. The victory was three years in the making, after he took back-to-back second-place finishes in 2014 and 2015. In 2014, Fraser’s debut Games appearance, he earned the Rookie of the Year award for his efforts. Known for his hatred of second place, Fraser was unsatisfied with his consecutive silver finishes, and though he won the worldwide Open in 2015 and swept his region (EAST) with a dominate performance in 2016, it wasn’t until he stood atop the podium at the Games in 2016 that he showed signs of celebration. A former U.S. Olympic Weightlifting team hopeful, with a return from major back surgery in 2011, retired from his weightlifting career and has been a CrossFit athlete since 2012.

      Still...what was he on at 13? That's crazy! Although, I do know an average 15 yr old, who hit a PR of 100kg and touched his first barbell just a year prior. There's something to be said of good coaching.

    That part where he talked about being a few years older than every one you're around and feeling like you've fell behind.. that hit home hard. Just turned 26, still no idea what I want to do.. Feel like I've wasted so much time spinning in circles, is this normal?

    • @bdm3056

      Jay same here bro. I feel lost but I will find my right path. You are not alone

    • @deadtothewxrld
      @deadtothewxrld 7 лет назад +12

      Without getting to sociologically philosophical, it's much more normal today than it was for previous generations. That being said, it is nice to have something to devote time to, even if you end up changing it. I'm 28 and have applied myself to a few different things since high school already, and will probably change again. That's just me. Some people around me can choose something straight outta high school and stick with it for 60 years, but I'm not wired like that.

      I was a late bloomer as well. I'll never forget when I was told, "Find something you're passionate about and make a career out of it." The journey will be filled with ups and downs, but keep the goal in mind and you will succeed. Best of luck.

    The part where Mat was in school and said “no friends, no girlfriend” summed up my experience of a year of grad school in Minnesota and I’m from Wisconsin. The CrossFit gym sometimes helped but still never really fit in. Was totally checked out a few weeks left of the spring semester and glad I didn’t finish school

    Holy sh!t. Mat cleaned and Jerk 225 when he was 13?! I could barely bench press with the bar and 15 lbs plates. Weight lifting wasn't introduced to us until I was in middle school (7th grade). 😣

    • @ridered7262
      @ridered7262 6 лет назад

      Mike Luna Nope, I love doing crossfit but there is times and movements for speed in different things and that's why we do Olympic lifting separate on one day to just work on technique and strength. I know some workouts have them but I don't think it's a good idea so you slow it down and forget about time and just work in doing lifts. Atleast I look at it that way.

    • @SolaFide53
      @SolaFide53 7 лет назад +9

      He's clearly talking about not wanting to do a training cycle. He said that he only went in a couple times per week, which isn't really conducive to a planned out training cycle.

    • @Kocis19
      @Kocis19 7 лет назад

      Typically a weightlifting training cycle can be anywhere from 10-12 weeks. Depending on what type of lifter you are, they can be very taxing on the body.
