Ok, to hopefully help out some of the questions. 1. It's the previous owner's fault because he put that stupid connection into the ECU. One person pointed out that I should have inspected that before I bought the bike... Idk, I guess I didn't think to check all the wiring and rip apart half the bike to inspect it... that's part of the risk with going used sometimes. Not a big deal, I fixed it and it's better than ever now. 2. The fireblade video will be the next video, I'm working on it now.. I'm aiming for Friday.
I owned a sp1 from 2011 to 2014, 1about one year after i bought it had the same issue as you, bike started to shake and cut out a few times than it completely stopt even starting. Called the dealer and had it towed and cheked out, he dident find anything, bike worked fine at the dealer, he even make a few testrides with it without problems. I went to get the bike back to drive home; nkw the power was strange, sometimes reduced poweroutput brought it back to the dealer the next day, after searching for a long time the problem was found, a metalic peace from the toolkid undernearth the seat fell in the space between the V from the engine and would sometimes pull away sparks from the sparkplugs straight to the frame, peace removed all issues were gone, maybe you can check it out if you have the same problem.
Man,HATE when that happens!!! (riding a bought "used" bike and something like a loose-wire can cause all sorts of problems with the bike's electronics!!! Glad ya found it man!
Honestly learned the hard way to look over used bikes with a fine comb. Purchased a 06 Kawasaki ZX636R with 6k miles on my second ride it started on fire from looking it over all I could tell is it started somewhere on top of the motor/air box area.
I'm having the same issue on my 2008 r6s. I just started riding a few months ago. Not too long ago, my bike started dying whenever I would hit a semi hard bump or whenever I would get too hard on the throttle. Now my bike doesnt prime the fuel pump when the kill switch is off, however, when you turn it on, it sometimes primes and sometimes doesnt. I started wiggling the kill switch a little bit while turning the key and realized that that's the issue. I havent gotten into it yet but I'm sure I will here soon
4 Things. 1) Glad you had a friend to get you back home. 2) This is why you never use those useless splice in connectors, learned that in school and from other much more experienced and wiser mechanics than myself. I know it wasn't your fault. Always use proper connectors, or do it right and solder and heat shrink the wires. 3) Where did you guys ride out too? It's beautiful. East Coast up State? 4) What gloves do you wear? They look similar to Icon's original Overlord Gauntlet gloves. Best gloves I've ever put my hands into.

Question... you know if anyone has mounted VTR bodywork on an RVT? (Superhawk onto RC51) I absolutely love the looks of the Superhawk's half fairing, but I would prefer the added performance, handling, and FI that comes with the RC. Also, Superhawk instrumentation, could it be made to fit the RC? I much prefer the Superhawk's analog gauges over the LCD gauges on the RC.
I bought an ‘82 Gs1100e that was not turning on at all but had a good battery and the seller said it ran when he put it away for a year. When I got it home and checked all connections were tight. Sitting on it moving it around the garage suddenly everything lit up. I hit the starter and it tired right over. When I moved it everything went off again. Under the seat is the positive battery cable to the starter solenoid. Rather than part with $10 for a new six inch braided strap someone had carefully pulled back the red cable cover and soldered the flex cable solid. Of course when you sit just right the cable meets and when you moved it parted again. Who does these things?
My uncles SP2 cut out on the way to the Isle Of Man TT a few years back, caused by the entire battery terminal snapping off! Those insulation displacement wire taps (e.g. Scotchlock) are utter garbage and most always cause problems in the longer term,
Two things : if u have an older power commander they are notorious for going bad and if u wiggle them they will turn off and back on cutting fuel. Do you have one on the RC? Also when u blip the throttle mine cuts off if you do it too fast.
Had sort of a problem like this too.. i made a wheelie, came down and immidiatly stopt running.. started and i could continue.. after sort of a bump you took in this video it also stoppen the engine.. i removed the Seat and came to the conclusion the battery wasn’t even connected... cable barely touched it tough... This after my bike came directly from the dealer after maintenance..
I love Honda. I really do. But after half a century the still seem not to have figured out how to build a kill switch. Only 3 months after I bought my CBR600RR (same year & color as yours) it left me stranded in the middle of nowhere. Of course it was the freaking kill switch...
My blackbird started doing this. Turned out needed a New stator and regulator rectifier. Also has has had someone's fingers in the loom, why do people do this?
👊I had a simulator problem with my electric Grom. Turned out it was the ignition wires being broke off by the bunch of other wires behind the head light lol 👍
All of those squeeze type connectors suck, they cut half the wire strands away. A proper splice should be twisted and soldered then use anti oxidizing paste and finish up with heat shrink. It takes ten minutes as opposed to ten seconds but it won't fail. If you don't have the slack then find it or make it.
Do you have manual chain tensioner on SP or automatical chain tensioner from Honda. I just bought SC 36 it got only 17k km so I dont know if i need to change it(to manual tensioner) before front piston meet the cylinder valves :D VTRs especially SC 36 are known by that issue with front automatical chain tensioner.
How is that previous owners fault? Lool Was kind of disappointed you took apart the whole front end only to find the bad connection under the seat, loved when you said might as well do some mods now that shes apart. What a rollercoaster 😅
lol, it's the previous owner's fault cause he put that connection in there. And it's all good I've been meaning to pop the face off the RC51 for a while now.
Greetings friend ... I am a subscriber of yours and admirer I hope you can help me .. I have the same problem as you, you had with RC51 of the gasoline pump could you help me by showing me which wire you joined from your ecu to solve the electronic problem.
So the problem was the wire that was taped into for the rev limiter mod had failed. Just check your ECU and see if the connectors are in place. Also it could be your fuse or maybe even your fuel pump itself. There are ways to test this with a multimeter. Good luck!
Talk about clickbait... you had a whole other dude there with you, and you could actually get the bike started and running. Literally the opposite of being left stranded.

I was taught in high school auto mechanics to ALWAYS ALWAYS perform a "wiggle test" on all wires.....most of the time it will reveal the problem
yep just after the speed bump..be a fair guess she wiggled herself into a problem. Problem is which wire to wiggle and how to get to it..
Always someone else's fault lmao 😆
jeremybly but for real always
Love the throaty sound of that exhaust!

Glad you were able to fig it out. Wiring can be a pain in the ass especially if someone else has been hacking away...
That sucks, glad you were able to get the issue fixed! I also didn't know you were in my area! I've ridden to Kittansett a few times

my CBR250's fuel pump doesnt prime with the killswitch off as well.

I'm really waiting for the fireblade build series, it's been weeks😔
How come your RC51 has RVT on the sides? I thought its meant to be VTR as in VTR1000 SP1 or 2?
Gorgeous bike though btw!
The american bikes say rvt the European rc51s say vtr
@@ianmihalic726 oh right, i never knew that. Here in Aussie they're also badged vtr. Haven't seen one in years. Getting rare and collectable!
America is dumb. Wish mine did VTR
Still live in MA? I noticed you passed by New Bedford in one of your old videos
Also as u see from all the comments we want the build series bro!
Common problem. Had that problem on almost all the pre-90's bikes that I ever had to do work on!
I have this similar problem, guess I better recheck the wires. Some have told me to replace the rectifier as the stock one overheats. 🤷♂️

The Fuel pump shouldn't prime if you have the Kill switch off In or out of gear that's completely normal on my VFR

It wasn't Honda's fault. It was a problem done by the previous owner as the title so obviously states.

No solder connections, prefer crimp ones. Moto, cars, trains, planes facturers never sold wires together, never solder wires to contacts
This is why I'd never buy a bike with the wiring modded. It's never as good as OEM wiring.
