Excellent video. One correction -- we are not consecrated like vowed religious. We make promises (lifelong!) but we are not bound to them under penalty of sin as are consecrated religious. We also are free to be married or to marry. Consecrated religious are not. They are set apart, forgoing the family, to be free to serve God and His people exclusively. We are fully part of the Dominican Order. We just live according to our rule in accordance with our lay, non-consecrated state. For more information, check out laydominicans.org.
Thank you Therese you answered the questions I had. I hope what you wrote applies in Australia too. I'm very much interested in becoming a lay Dominican.
I'm proud of YOU FOR YOUR DIVINE BRILLIANCE TO LIVE LIFE IN LOVE IN CHRIST FOR THE DOMINICANS FOR THE LIFE OF SERVING GOD FOREVER FOR CALLING CATHOLICISM TO LIVE THE WORD OF GOD.
I have seen lay Dominicans at 2 parishes in my city wearing a full Dominican habits just like Dominican Friars and Nuns ( without head vail ) during mass. Is this appropriate according to Dominican constitution ?
Catholic Lay Dominicans wear a medal or scapular to denote their membership in the order. On special occasions we may wear a larger scapular. We are allowed to be buried in the full habit minus the cappa (black cloak) and veil (women). There was a time centuries ago when Lay Dominicans would wear the habit of the Order minus the in their daily life.
Hello, the habit of Lay Dominican consist only of a scapular over secular clothes. The full habit is only worn by Lay Dominicans upon death if they wish to.
Besides my family, these women, have revealed God to me & shared life with great diversity, lots of laughter in many ministries.
