  • Bluffing is essentially telling a lie with confidence so that other people believe you.
It is a bold move that few can get away with and hide. It is difficult for humans to consciously (intentionally) lie. We often make unnatural movements, unconscious responses, etc. Many people make bluffs in poker to convince (persuade) their opponents their hand (of cards) is better than what it is. If you get good enough at this technique, who knows, you could do quite well in a casino.
Bluffing extends to real world applications as well. Take politics as an example.
Many politicians often create bluffs to keep their “confident appearance”. Though they may not know the answer, they need to appear to be in order and control.
Some students tell a bluff to avoid or dodge getting in trouble. By the time they come to this room usually their bluff gets exposed (uncovered).
Bluffing is a technique sometimes used in magic tricks. It’s not 100% chance of success, just like in real life circumstances, but it can create a powerful effect. Let’s try a simple trick that uses a bluff and then I will teach how to do it - otherwise you wouldn’t know it’s a bluff!
