MORE LESSONS!!!!! PLEASE MORE LESSONS! I learned more in your first two lessons than I've learned in two months with other how to books and videos. Thank you SO SO much!
Great! Thank you! This series helped me a lot to get back into recorder playing and my son really loves it. He has a severe mental disability and loves music. Trumpet needs a lot of preparation to start playing but recorder I feel I can pick up and start playing songs, a real advantage of the recorder in my opinion. My boy is constantly asking me to play for him and last weeks I don't have to disappoint him anymore. With trumpet I played for him every day but only after a thorough warmup. The more music my boy gets in his life the more relaxed and happy he is. That is very obvious. It's a long story, but I just wanted to let you know you can really have an impact on people's life with your video's and I for one am grateful. I am now a patreon to be one of hopefully many that support your work.
Hello, escribo desde España, no tengo ni idea de música y encontré la flauta que utilizaba de niña en el colegio. Contigo he vuelto a practicar y me encantan tus clases, eres genial. Aunque no entiendo el inglés soy capaz de seguir tus indicaciones porque tu metodología es muy buena.
Please don't ever stop making videos! I've learned so much from you. It's very entertaining how you explain things and your enthusiasm and love for the recorder really comes through. I hope you make more lesson videos and more videos in general. 😊
I have several recorders I bought a couple years ago after not having played since grade school. I got 3 piece beginner Yamaha's in the regular and alto flute and Aulos in the tenor recorder. I grew frustrated and wasn't sure why I couldn't get good sound out of them until I found you. Your positivity about the instrument is infectious and makes me eager to actually master this. I already play the flute since grade school and the pinao too. I've picked my recorders back up and think I might work with them a bit. I might even pick up a good quality plastic aulos bass recorder too.
Thanks for the second lesson. Hope your do more. I’m an oldie relearning and this time I’m going to have fun. You make me smile and make it fun. Oh just want to say your little future recorder play is adorable.
Awesome! While online schooling my twins, I had to act as teacher assistant. I taught myself to play the recorder, then taught the boys their parts for music class. Fell in love with it! I got an alto (treble?) recorder for Mother's Day (US), and I LOVE IT. Don't have a book yet, but you just taught me to play a favorite song! THANKS.
Hello Sarah, I did like our second lesson! As a curiosity I'll say I've found the sounds you produced when wiggling your fingers over all the holes (2:03) very pleasing to the ears. Little Bodil is growing and she's a beauty :)
Hi Sarah! I enjoyed this video. I have written this beautiful song "Amazing Grace" in the brand new A clef as second lesson. In my new A clef, the D high is the D higher. Now I will go to my practice time.Thank you!
Thanks a lot for new lesson. Couple of days ago I've received my first recorder and the book that you suggested. We'll try to enter your recorder musicians family 😊 Thanks a lot for your channel and all the work you do here!!! 🌹🌹🌹❤❤❤
A lovely pentatonic tune, sounds great on the bagpipes, too! I half expected a few grace notes, i.e. Throws and Grips, rather than retonguing on some of the repeats, e.g. two sol at the end. ;-) Thank you so much!!!
Thank you for the lesson. My tuba instructor turned me on to your channel. I play both ends of the grand staff and leave the middle for the others to play. ;-) Oh, the recorder fits nicely inside the throat of my tuba so it's easy to carry both around.
Thanks a lot!! I didn't understand properly how to use my tongue to play the recorder, but your two lessons really helped me out. And now that I can hear the difference between with and without, I realize I was doing it wrong. :) Also, thanks for all the tips and advice in your other videos. Greetings!
I used to play recorder in school.... by ear only..... heard a tune and played it on the recorder. Lost that recorder. Many years later at a balloon fest in Cardiff Castle I purchased a recorder from a huge bin of them for £1. For the past 30 years I've loved it. You've encouraged me to get a better quality one so chosen a yamaha and a couple books to this time try with music. What further advice can you offer please? I'm OK with lesson 1 and 2. Have you done a 3 please. Loving your youtubes. Thanks for sharing
Please can you make part 3 and another song 😍😍 I love this kind of videos 😍 I actually learned the first one and now I'm learning the second one please make another video 😍❤❤ I really enjoyed these lessons and Learned from them so please make another one and your awesome I just love you soo much ❤😍 your the master of the recorder your queen of music🎶🎵🎼🎼👑
Amazing Grace. Good one Sarah . I'd like to see some pretty Cheltic ballads that are typically done one the whistle. How about Misty Mountain Cold if you're going to teach some notes on the alto ?
Hi Sarah! You touched on a question I have been wondering about... when to breathe? You mention not interrupting a musical phrase. Does that mean you should breathe at the end of every measure or hold your breath as long as you can and then breathe at the end of a measure? If I wait too long, I find myself then having to take big gulps of air before proceeding! Not very flowy! Thank you!
Until Sarah can answer I suggest thinking of how you would sing the song, and follow that pattern. If you look up the words, you will see phrases, apply this to your musical phrases. These phrases often last over 4 measures of music, if you know about counting etc. You definitely do not want to notice the breath, so if you gulp, you are waiting too long. Beginners would breathe more often than pros as they get used to pacing their air flow. Since this comment is more than a year after your question I hope someone else helped you out in the interim :)
Sarah Jeffery / Team Recorder 😂 I didn’t expect this idea to truly be picked up. Umm... like recorder maintenance things and emergency items (cork grease, etc.) that you’ll need at concerts, or other performances.
Best wooden soprano recorder not priced for professional for advanced beginner/early intermediate player? I have a Yamaha plastic soprano already. thanks
the word 'recorder' has to do with birds - and the first of these exercises prove it! "Therfore first recorde thou, as birde within a cage, … thy tunes tempring longe, And then … forth with thy pleasaunt songe" --1518 "I recorde as yonnge byrdes do" - 1530 "The lark is mery and records her notes." -1595
Hi Sarah! Thanks for this. I've been playing since 1977 (no lessons or method book, for years; just followed the fingering chart in a book from the library), so it's nice going thru actual lessons (even though thru your vids and method books over the years I know most of what you say here, lol). Anyway, I had to get a full denture plate for my uppers about a year ago and have noticed that even with conscious trying not to bite the beak (I know!) it's easy to avoid now, because when I don't have my teeth in, there's nothing to bite WITH, haha. All in all, NOT a method to curb biting that I would suggest for anyone, LOL.
Hi I am a Beginner and love playing but my fingers hurt and stiffen up a bit when I play. After about 30 mins my left ring finger feels like rubber. I have played piano for many years and never had this. What might I be doing wrong and what can I do to play with more curved fingers. Thanks.
I'm loving your tutorials and am having great fun learning the recorder! I purchased an inexpensive wooden model made by Hohner (like under $30 US) and I find that after a half hour or so of practicing, I get horrid squealing when I try to play any notes requiring the fourth or fifth holes. Is this normal for a new instrument (I've had it less than a week)? It's definitely not my fingering as it's perfectly fine for the first half an hour or so, and the squealing occurs no matter how hard or soft I blow. This has happened each day I've had it so far.

Ooh, I am intrigued! What exactly do you mean..?
Sarah Jeffery / Team Recorder
😂 I didn’t expect this idea to truly be picked up. Umm... like recorder maintenance things and emergency items (cork grease, etc.) that you’ll need at concerts, or other performances.

To me it looks like some moisture take form into the head piece while playing, try clean it!
Hi Sara! I've been playing the recorder for a while but , it frustrates me because it's hard for me to play 8 and 16 notes. How can I improve
Why not create a course at Udemy?
Very good idea. I've learned a lot from there. :-)
Hi
Could I ask you if you have any tips to help the little girl I look after age 8, find the experience of her first exam level 1, Less stressful,.
Hi, i was wondering why the notes e and d are good then they turn squeaky on my recorder.. is it just my recorder or something else? Any one know?
