Hibs had a corner in the end where I was and as Best came over to take it someone threw an empty beer tin onto the pitch right in front of him, George picks it up raises it to his mouth and then shaking it to show it was empty feigns disappointment and throws it to the sideline. 0:22 When George took that shot it looked to me like he caught the other side totally unware. They didn't look like they expected a shot at goal that far out and or already.. George had a quick glance at the goal and in an instant worked out when to kick the ball and how hard and what direction and what part of his foot to use. His timing is impeccable.. The guy has confidence in his own abilities. Most players today seem to lack confidence in themselves and or their abilities... They seem to want to pass off the ball as quickly as possible in case they make a mistake and let their side down.. They seem so terrified of causing an error it happens.. No doubt about it.. I never get fed up of seeing these clips. Always an absolute pleasure to watch football as it's BEST.
The internet kids these days have no idea, no idea whatsoever what an astonishing player this man was. They think CR7 is an all-time great - he is insect next to George Best. Only Messi bears comparison.
George was a great footballer. Saw him play for Man. Utd and then playing for Hibs. Even in his late 30s after a few beers he was still by far the best player on the field. Only other player I saw who was better was Cruyff.
George went for a beer with the lads? One? Best looked like he'd put on quite a bit of booze weight here in the mid-section. You can tell he didn't have the engine anymore, but he could still pin-point a pass
It's abit crazy watching highlights of games from then to now. People seem to have so much time on the ball in Best's day, and it's almost like no one wants to tackle
I saw him play for Fulham against my team Chelsea at the Cottage when he was past it. Chelsea had a good young team at the time but he was still the best player on the pitch. We got beat and he spanked in a long range goal. At the time his local pub was mine in Walton but I never clocked him. I guess he was in the posh part!
George Best did his knee cartilage when in his mid twenties and wasn't the same player again. What was left amused a few people though. Always brought his own wages through the turnstile.
Many Hibs fans have found that their youtube videos have been copied, rebranded and uploaded onto a large Hibs youtube channel with no credit given to the original posters. It gets a bit annoying that this channel are ripping of Hibs fans and probably making money out of other peoples uploads. If there was no watermark on this video then they would probably have got the 100,000 views on their system. The watermark is not intended as a copyright mark its just to make it a little bit more difficult for them to rebrand the video as their own.👍🏻
@winstoneism But it was just his style. He didnt do it because an image adviser suggested it to make him look distinctive, so that he would become a brand £££. He didnt consider what he could do or say that would make him more money. He was a contrarian, but not deliberately so.

Bad goalkeeping helped though.
Yeah, bad goalkeeping in every game and the opposing team were always shite too. Wow what a genius you are to have spotted that one..
Best was the Best..
The internet kids these days have no idea, no idea whatsoever what an astonishing player this man was. They think CR7 is an all-time great - he is insect next to George Best. Only Messi bears comparison.
Jinky would run rings round Best its a fact.
Brilliant!
brilliant, hearing the hearts fans singing in this
Can you imagine Best on the pitches of today?!
Legend,best xx!
Best was offered a job at Rangers, he refused and went to Hibs
Good speech
His first game wasn’t Partick at Easter Road but away to St. Mirren at Love St.
In a bit of that footage there it looked like Best playing against Scotland?
His first game wasn’t Partick at home. It was away to St Mirren at Love St.
I remember that too. Also I think he scored that day. Was it a 1-1.draw?
Played on ice in those days
Bear in mind, Best was generally drunk when he turned out for Hibs. He still played better than many of his sober team amtes.
George was a great footballer. Saw him play for Man. Utd and then playing for Hibs. Even in his late 30s after a few beers he was still by far the best player on the field. Only other player I saw who was better was Cruyff.
Google the day George Best nutmegged Cruyff. 🙌
George went for a beer with the lads? One? Best looked like he'd put on quite a bit of booze weight here in the mid-section. You can tell he didn't have the engine anymore, but he could still pin-point a pass
Aaaah jumpers for goal posts, isn’t it? Wasn’t it? Marvellous...
It's abit crazy watching highlights of games from then to now. People seem to have so much time on the ball in Best's day, and it's almost like no one wants to tackle
My old man used to be a telephone engineer contracted for the Balmoral hotel. He said Best used to have a pub lunch before the games.
Of 70s Best and Cruyff! !! Best mutant genial of driblingns and skills! !!
Fantastic post as usual John. Thanks. I'm guessing the 39 thumbs down are from the Sevco boys.
GREAT!!!!
For me the best of alltime
No that accolade up here was for Davie Cooper and Jimmy Johnson....Best only came up here for beer money.
George was the Best
2:41 great use of the arm their by the Hibs player.
I love that
johnsparky2 owns the copyright by putting his name on it.
The watermark is not intended as a copyright mark its just to make it a little bit more difficult for them to rebrand the video as their own.👍🏻
He was simply the best
Can you imagine Best on a snooker table like they have today.
"The great Brazilian footballer Pele said 'George was the greatest footballer in the world'.
I don't doubt Pele's opinion of George Best, but he also thought Nicky Butt was world class.....
@Mini van A fozen...really?
Last game was against Falkirk,if I'm not mistaken
Looks like George was wearing crampons while Rangers were wearing carpet slippers.
I seen him play a couple of times in person
And he didnt need a ponced up image, or a man-bun, because he was just himself.
@winstoneism But it was just his style. He didnt do it because an image adviser suggested it to make him look distinctive, so that he would become a brand £££.
He didnt consider what he could do or say that would make him more money. He was a contrarian, but not deliberately so.
He was the Best
I was at that game.
God bless George
Dunno if it's true but it's been said that Pele told George if he was Brazilian he would've been the best player of all time!
George was the best player Ever. Always will be.
The good old days
1000 pounds a week, I remember it , these guys today could not get anywhere near George Best.
Every other Celtic fan always makes the George Best / Jimmy Johnstone comparison . I saw both play in their pomp ; two great , skilled entertainers but Best had more to his game than Jinky - he was an all round better player .
Surprised to see Best pull on a Hibs jersey. Would he have gotten stick for that in Belfast? Glad he did play for them of course.
Best ever
Seen him play at Goodison with Law and Charlton, Everton won 2-0, Royle and whittle.
