The label didn't fail him... The fact is just that the American market isn't for him... Yes he sounds like them, but so does every other upcoming rapper in the USA... Nota said it back in 2020 and no one listened, Nasty C has to add a more South African feel to his music so it resonates... Tyla still has a South African feel coz her accent hasn't changed and her dance routines are resonate with South Africans... Nothing about Nasty says South African so he entered the US scene just like every other rapper from there so he got blown in the wind. .. The American market is tailored by its people for its people and this is just the result of that

Weird accents are only glorified when your a light skinned attractive hun like Tyla, but if your like Nasty C an average dark skinned dude with a weird accent everyone will interpret that as being dumb and uneducated and no one will take you seriously. I mean look at Jacob Zuma for instance he has a weird accent no one takes him seriously even if he is saying something that's smart people will focus more on the accent and making fun of it. Truth be told there is a higher pressure towards a dark skinned person to sound proper hence is why our people are working overtime to polish their accents.

I wish Nasty C could work with producers such as Champuru, MustBeDubz, Herc, Tyler ICU, and Phori. Those dudes have mastered the blend of Hip-Hop and Yanos, so that he doesn't have to feel like he's ditched Hip-Hop, but can also match the frequency of the time so that DJ's can playlist it and the masses can dance to it. Costa Titch, Riky and AKA were showing us the way.

This whole video makes me so sad. Because I also initially thought I just needed time with his latest tape, and I haven't managed to go back to it, but I know the quality was right, it just did not feel like he was talking from personal experiences on there, like it was too edited to connect with a wide audience instead of just message about reality on his pen. But his sound definately feels very inspired, the choices he made with his delivery was brave and well executed - He really pushed himself in that regard.

I give him credit for having world-class creatives working with him, but as far as the concept of the project they messed it up big time everyone was pulling in their own direction no cohesion. The project feels unoriginal, ZMWSP was mid and I expected alot from him specially when he said he was going to have a kid. Let's remember, although these major labels and companies have the machines to make things happen, it is up to the "people" to decide what they want to consume and with that said, we can blame both Nasty C and the label for not coming up with a good strategy on how he would infiltrate the US market. For example, the T.I song, was an offensive move, why?
Nasty C on VLADTV done claimed he never experienced any form of racism/racial profiling/discrimination in South Africa, so it did not make sense why he would go-on to drop that track which was meant to kinda highlight him as an activist of some sort but that wont fool even a 3 year old.
Added to that is the accent that we all are aware of, yes, to us South Africans it's nice, it's inspiring, it's exotic, it's unique and all that.... but to US dudes it is labeled "phony", which together with the fact that he belittled his counterpart in the biggest interview of his career, raises questions in regards to his "realness" which is like a currency to US hip-hop enthusiasts. When that, is in question, then you most likely wont get the full grip.

labels fuck over people,it depends on his contract details(that's if he didn't sign away his creative control and masters)but his best bet is for him to reach out to artists personally or grind like he's upcoming to that global market or maybe he should do something outside his comfort zone artistically that's gonna force them to stare and he should network wisely, maybe by DM'ing artists...maybe a hit single..but whatever it is he better make it count coz his time is running up.

The label could probably do more to promote the kid but I think the biggest problem is the way he sounds, when people hear african rapper, especially Americans, they expect to hear something different, they expect to hear an accent, they also expect to hear a different sound but when they actually hear him, he sounds exactly just like them, or even better than some of them, which then breeds jealousy and disapointment because he brings the same sound to an already saturated market. If he capitalized on his africaness, he was gonna stand out and he would definitely blow up.

Nasty C is great but he sounds a American and I don't blame him for it those are the people who inspire him.... But the label executives are looking for something different that's why they made him choose "ZULU Man with some power" and "ZULU" because that's something that would differentiate him and that didn't seem to work well.... Also his biggest song or feature is the one where he did Afro beats and the different flavours blended well into the song. I prefer Nasty as a King with the freedom to do what he wants with his own fan base than to change himself to for fit the Billboard charts

He's going at it the wrong way. They all are. What makes you known in any place you go to? Word of mouth. It's how blxckie was able to blow up at the rate he did. If you're an artist that wants to blow up you need things,1. know and master the craft with your own style. Thereby you won't need to be overthinking when you're doing the second step. 2. Collaborate with artists. Don't be putting it out there that you are reaching out to people. Put in the work. Try to associate with artists that side. I believe Shane Eagle fumbled the ball by not trying into being in the revenge of the dreamers album. Bro, everyone was there. BUDDY, BAS, JID, SABA, EARTHGANG, ARI and a lot others. If he really wants it he should be out at these particular camps. Dreamville, Pivot Gang, Cordea's High Level, KOTA The Friend, Alex Isley, Jack Dine, Masego, Naji, Anderson Paak and all the likes. He can even try being around people close to Mike Dean. That'll give him a solid foundation. Collaborate with good musicians as well as people with motion.

True the only way for an artist like Nasty is just buy awards & radio play coz nothing about his music resonate with rap fans, if Nasty was fortunate to get around circles like TWC then he would sell but now he's just surrounded by pop guys & label employees so his music stand no chance in the streets especially in the long run. He can't authentically rap about grinding to a milli coz all he did was sign one label contract after another, so he clearly lacks that racks to riches story, he can only lie about it in the raps. His only hope is to go fully commercial like AKA but that would take lots of money, connections & creative ideas like fill up.

Nasty ain’t making music for numbers or being number one he’s doing it for the love of it hence he wants to work and collaborate with musicians who best fit the song…not because you are popping at the moment or you are a big name in the industry.

Truly speaking if you can check the def jam all signee currently there’s no big rapper who’s relevant .
I believe he should have signed under an American rapper’s label so he can get American features easily ..
Def jam is outdated in terms of rap . Only Atlantic records , interscope and republic are pushing rappers

Don't be shocked if nasty leave Def jam anytime coz his pushing by himself in the US, and guyz you like it or not NASTY C WILL BE ONE OF THE BIGGEST ARTIST'S GLOBALLY NOT JUST THE US!!!!!!.😐

All l know nasty c is smart enough to make a deal that suitable for him and he doesn't want to be exploited by the label only to find out he can't get out because of the rules if daf jam is not doing him good he will take off the boy is going far anyone thinking otherwise get some glasses and see his future the boy knew he was going to be famous before fame and he never fails def jam is helping him well there to network and he knows you don't chase success or you will trip and fall let the boy pave his way soon he will get that Grammy

Cause they also signed to international labels. Yet no one is putting a magnifying glass on them. Lol
But Def Jam definitely is failing. I think it might be dude to him not signing a 360. Cause with a 360 we see the impact instantly.

@@mvalson7663 The reason Nasty C stood out locally was coz he sounded international but now he can’t penetrate the US market because they all sound the same I mention Ambitious because their artists made music that had African feel to it.

Yall need to call a spade a spade. Def Jam doesn't give him support,, all they do is get him in rooms to take pics with big celebrities and that's that. They don't fund his albums to get good features. All his international features were pap. Only one that make sense since been ASAP Ferg and French Montana... The Recent albums since Def Jam are mid and chart for 1 day. Last good album was Strings and Blings. His fans need to admit the change in sound was a bad idea. Last good song was Eazy.

After seeing this video its seems like Def jam is slowing down Nasty C deliberately, there is no sign that he was signed by a Global record label up until this Video. I also think it has nothing to do with American style or blending with RSA style the guy is dope and the fans like what he is doing. Some of us here in the comment section like to pull our brothers down when they are trying to make money, Hip hop is Global no one is owning a Style, Nas Stole from Biggy and Rakwon and people loved him so stop your trash talk about that man. Nasty do your thing leave your haters talking because that's their job. Disclaimer: im not Nasty C fan i would choose Mtee over Nasty C but now we must support him because he is representing us South Africans.

I think Def Jam is the wrong label for Nasty, as much as he was inspired by the US, that's how Nasty raps and we love him for it, Imagine Nasty with a Drake feature or a Kendrick tour, he would be exposed to his market within the US, I'm not saying he would take off cause the US music industry is like popcorn cause our attention spans are fvxked, buuut Nasty is a lot like Drake, he can make a catchy song, he just prides himself on lyricism, he just needs 1 US hit but they want SexxyRedd now... maybe it is political, to keep black women disrespected.

The boy got talent of the level of Kanye, drake, Jay z if truth be spoken. Unfortunately forces beyond his paycheck are in control, not forgetting his own choice of explicit cursing words contribute to less numbers. Check history and you will find out that curse words other than the n word don't help.
