    I have had this kit installed for 18 month, and it is magical. The throw change is very subtle, but it is really hard to describe good it feels. It make good car that much better.

      so are you saying it feels soft? what would the point be since the ND already has the softest shifter of any miata? it feels spongey and gross. I miss my NB as that shifted nice and notchy. The ND is still "notchy" by modern little car standards, don't get me wrong. but it's nowhere like it should be.

      @TWR CREW I have one in my car as well, and it's definitely more mechanical and harder than the stock shifter. It's not as good as my old NB, but it's a big improvement, IMO. I barely notice the shorter throw.

      Do you have the high rpm rattle issue. It seems half the people online are reporting this problem but no one has posted a resolution.
      I installed this shifter and freaking love it but the high rpm rattle is killing my smiles for it 😥

      @@solocrew9658 I have had it installed for a couple of years or so and haven't had any rattle. I would be really frusterated if I had a rattle introduced by this istall, and would probably undo the install if it couldn't be fixed. The whole point is to make thing feel even better.

    • @solocrew9658

      @@richardlarson6198 I totally agree! This is tough for me because there is so much I love about this shifter and this rattle is the only downside. The owner of Cravenspeed is super nice and has been helping me out with trouble shooting the issue and even offered me a full refund.
      Just out of curiosity, what year and model is your MX5, wondering if this issue is due to a specific setup or mods. For example, I have a 21 RF Club and I installed sway bars and strut bars last night and the rattle seems to be less intense! Maybe its the fact that I'm running on a stage 2 tune...

    No matter how well engineered this kit is, during my drive of 120 miles+ partly on fast and winding roads this day, I seriously asked myself whether I would enjoy a short shifter kit like this. The answer is quite simple: I would consider it a waste of time, effort and money to have one kit installed because I find it superfluous. The standard manual gear shifter works fine, has a great feel, is precise and rather effortless. What huge benefit a quick shifter would give me, is just beyond me. There is also a risk of outperforming the synchro meshes in your gear box which could become costly.

      Personal preference. The Miata gearbox and shifter is definitely one of the better ones on the market straight from the factory, but it's not perfect, and we encourage everyone to personalize their car how they see fit. :)

      @@olavzwarteveen5246 agreed! totally preference, I feel like the mx5 has more of a euro shifter feel, its very refined and dampened. Coming from cars like the civic SI and S2000, I'm used to hear the audible "click" of the gear engagements and I really like the shifter because of it, I've just ran into issue with vibration noises at high RPMs that make me consider going back to the old one.

    Any chance you could blabber about the Fiata? I know they are a much smaller share of your market but as an owner of an Abarth 124 I’m always looking for the next thing to add to the car past the suspension, brakes, &wheels that are already on the car.
    Not expecting anything, just thought I’d throw it out there. Am curious though, any of your customers do a Fiat V8 swap yet?

    Nice looking setup especially with shift well in place. But highly annoying rattle and the shifter is just too short when rowing gears. Takes away from the experience. Probably go another direction if not stock.

    Hey FM, I’ve heard reports of Mazda voiding transmission warranties due to installs of these short shifter kits on NDs. Could be quite a problem for us who still maintain the warranty in the cases of transmission failure. Any thoughts on this? Regards, Sanjeev

    • @FlyinMiataVideo
      @FlyinMiataVideo  2 года назад +3

      The Magnuson-Moss act means the dealership must prove the kit contributed to the failure before denying a warranty claim. We have not heard of any issues or warranty claims due to this particular kit, but we understand the concern and encourage you to do your research before installing any aftermarket parts.

      Mine has been like that with the stock shifter since I have owned it and it had like 8k km on it. I think it's how they all are, it's designed into the transmission. Personally I love it, sounds a little like a racing gearbox with straight cut gears.

    • @cstrx11
      @cstrx11 11 месяцев назад

      Same here, with stock shifter. I chan hear the whine in 4th 5th and 6th gears too, but barely noticable. However in 3rd and 4th gears I can clearly hear it.
      I think after a few thousand kilometers the transmission will develop such noises. Btw I just replaced the original transmission fluid WAY earlier then needed after just 18k km. And it looked horrible. Maybe it's normal, maybe not. It really looked like it contained molybdenum additive. But the original gear oild doesnt contain any! Checked on the internet it looks like it is how it is.

      Yes, the Cravenspeed shift lever shares the same thread pitch as stock, so any shift knob advertised to fit a stock ND should also work with this kit.

      That's foam tubing - it's used during reassembly as sound proofing and to keep the large shifter boot aligned with the shifter.

    I might be the only one in the world who thinks notchy is GOOD? I love a meaty clicking shifter that feels like you're snapping someones bones as it slots through each movement of the H. I hate when the shifter is "smooth" like you're stirring a broom stick through playdoh. that's what's wrong with the car world these days.

    • @opmike343
      @opmike343 Год назад

      People mean different things when they say "notchy." In some cars, this "notchiness" is describing an annoying resistance when trying to get the gear engaged. Like you're trying to pull a rod through an opening that's slightly too small. This contributes nothing to the driving experience. Other people are just using "notchy" as a synonym for mechanical or metallic in feel.

    • @twrcrew8852
      @twrcrew8852 Год назад

      @@opmike343 I like it. that sure handedness/stiffness like a bolt action rifle is definitely a tactile joy of the experience. Older WRXs and 240sx's feel like shaky mushy doodoo being stirred around. Other cars like the mk3 and mk4 supra's 5 (r154) and 6 (v160) speeds have that nice bolt action rifle feel, the Z32 5 speed has it, the porsche 911 even has it. the Corvette has it. Many older sports cars that aren't FWD or cable operated have it. Most newer vehicles are just whack. Modern BMWs (at least the 2017 I drove) feels like a soft toy and gives no feel at all. The same with the Civic. My ND RF miata is slightly notchy - just enough to be decent, but it's way worse than the NB I had years ago. My mr2 which isn't even mechanical link feels way notchier. they got the feeling right, whatever they did.
