  • After lightly sanding the rotor cap conductor, I removed the old spark plugs and replaced them with identical new spark plugs. During the process, it became clear that some of the old spark plugs were cross threaded. After I installed all four new spark plugs and ran the engine again, it was still misfiring as if it was running on three cylinders. Turns out the third spark plug was not fully installed and seated. I discovered this issue while viewing my video clips. It’s difficult to see with your eyes alone if the plugs are fully seated, even using a flashlight. And since the old plugs were cross-threaded, or perhaps the threading in the head was not done properly when the engine was rebuilt, it was not possible to tell based on increased resistance when the plugs were fully screwed in. Normally, you should be able to screw them in by hand or with a little coaxing using a spark plug wrench, then you torque them down to specs. This was not possible to do.
I expect to get criticized for using an open-end wrench instead of a spark plug socket wrench. I have several, but they were not large enough for this spark plug. And I was trying to get them changed in time to go to the Model A cruise.

Thanks for sharing. I was getting some Déjà vu watching this, but then I remembered that I had seen this footage before, in your previous video "How I Changed the Spark Plugs on my 1931 Ford Model A Pickup".

I intended to make a short recap video before posting Parts 2 and 3, but after struggling with editing for days, I couldn’t get it done. I now have a new respect for editors who do this routinely for TV episodes. Anyway, I whacked it down to the essentials the best I could to bring viewers up to speed before posting Parts 2 and 3. Thank you for watching, again, and for your comment!
