Thank you for sharing the RUclips video with us! Do you live there? I'm planning to visit Japan, but I keep hearing that locals might not be fond of foreigners and that English is not widely spoken. It seems like you can speak the language, which would definitely make communication easier. As an Italian-American, I might find it challenging if communicating in English becomes difficult.
I plan to visit sometime in March 2025, and I would like to know how friendly the locals are and if there are any unwritten rules I should be aware of in Japan. How did you find your Airbnb in Japan? What is a reasonable price per night for a day, a few days, or a week? Please provide as many details as possible, as I take this visit very seriously. Thank you!

Hi Roberto, thanks for your thoughtful comment! Glad you liked the video. I don’t live in Japan, but I’ve visited and can share some tips. Japan is an incredible place, and while English isn’t widely spoken, most locals are very kind and willing to help-learning a few phrases like ‘arigatou’ (thank you) or ‘sumimasen’ (excuse me) can make a big difference. Respect for their culture is key: things like being quiet in public, waiting your turn, and removing your shoes indoors are very important.
For unwritten rules, avoid eating while walking, keep your voice down on public transport, and don’t tip (it’s not part of their culture). Doing some research beforehand will really help-look into the Japan Rail Pass for bullet trains, as it can save you a lot of money if you’re traveling long distances. Airbnb is a great option, with prices ranging from $50-$150 per night depending on the city and size of the accommodation.
If you’re heading to rural areas, expect less English but even more authentic experiences.
