  • Today I'd like to show you how to cook / grill striped bass on the BBQ. This grilled striper recipe is very quick, easy, tasty, and can be cooked with household ingredients. One important trick is to remove the dark meat from the striper fillet. It really makes a huge difference.

    Does ocean striper taste better than landlocked striper?

    • @thundermistlures
      @thundermistlures  6 лет назад +5

      yes....ocean striper taste better :)

    • @jeffchapman9867
      @jeffchapman9867 5 лет назад

      I was going to say. We catch landlocked striper. And it doesnt taste that great. It taste like the lake. It isnt too bad when I bleed them and brine the fillets before cooking. That red meat is nasty though. I guess I can try and keep the fish colder on ice and rock salt? I heard that helps keep the fish fresher. I already have put them on ice, but haven't tried rock salt. But those striper steaks do look tasty.

  • @masonplona6433

    if i catch a striper in the long island sound, does that still taste as good as landlocked and regular ocean striper?

    Great channel i subscribed. I'll be getting my first saltwater license very soon and i'm looking to catch some stripers off of capecod and maybe some other areas in MA that i have in mind. I think i'm going to cook them with this method it looks delicious but maybe a nice wood fire grill. This may be a dumb question but i'm new to saltwater fishing but can you catch stripers all year round in MA? Or is there a certain time of the year that is best for catching them?

    • @thundermistlures
      @thundermistlures  6 лет назад +2

      The Stripers start to show up on April - usually the smaller schoolies, then by mid-May, the larger ones start to arrive :) Usually, it is a 1 fish limit, 28 inch min. but regulations change often, so be sure you are up to date with the rules and regs :) We have some Striper videos on our youtube channel that you may enjoy and you are now the first to know - that we will be releasing new Top Water Lures that will be fantastic for Striper and other game fish, but most likely not till July or Aug. Slat water fishing is exciting - you are going to love it :)

    Is there anything you could do with the dark meat? Like stock or soup or something?

    • @thundermistlures
      @thundermistlures  7 лет назад

      You could use it for fish stock, but remember, if the fish has any contaminants in it, they could be found in the dark meat and it will also taste super fishy :)

      ...yes it is, once you remove the dark muscle meat :) ruclips.net/video/ey3A_V3yO-I/видео.html PS> bleeding the fish also helps a lot - or at least, washing as much of the blood out of the filet

    • @lukkyluciano
      @lukkyluciano 7 лет назад

      JD Outdoors. Honestly none of them have the same firm texture except maybe bass. I love walleye but not grilled like in video. I only will eat walleye, perch, and crappie deep fried. Catfish is pretty good grilled, blackened

      ...any firm fish will work....for example, crappie have a softer meat, so I would not use crappie, however, walleye has a firm meat, and would grill up perfectly :)
