- As the (relative) new kids on the block, Chris Harris has pitched McLarens against all sorts of competition to show off their capabilities. We've had 600LT against Ferrari 488 Pista. We've had Speedtail against on one of the RAF's F35 jets. And we even raced a McLaren 720s against... well... a McLaren - the P1 hypercar. Here are some of our favourite McLaren Showdowns. @L Dunco the 911 is great for the Autobahn, not so much for the track since it is still quite a bit heavier

Those jets are huge when you see them next to a car.
You know we have been seeing automotive journalism work for so long now, and now even in this age of youtube, nothing still beats top gear, both in videography and presentation. Chris Harris, still top of the game motoring journalism.
Damn I could feel Chris’s reaction when the F-35 took off lol. I live and work by Selfridge air base and you can feel any Jet take off it’s crazy. I can’t image being right next to it!! ✈️😳
Chris Harris is a global treasure to the car community. He can drive, he gives honest reviews, and the cinematography is pure gold!

Speedtail vs F-35 is one of my absolute favorite Top Gear videos but because fighter jets are simply the most awesome machines.
Top gear so low in TV viewership now, that they need to inject multiple ads in their youtube videos to make $$$. How sad 🤦🏻♂️

That 600LT looks awesome! And with a few mods it will hang with most of them.
@Sayem AK Yeah, and it's also over $100.000 more. With $20k in upgrades the 600LT will run right with the 720S.
@Sayem AK With the upgraded tune and exhaust put on the 600LT it will have more horsepower than the 720, so it will take off and be just as fast or maybe a little faster than the 720.
@Sayem AK It's hard to say because the 600LT is a couple of hundred pounds lighter, and the engines are not much different, but it's possible the 720S upgraded and tuned would be a little faster, but to me that little bit of speed isn't worth the amount of money you're saving by buying the 600LT.
Where are you going to go that you can run over 200mph? lol.

True true. Top Gear is never going to be the Top Gear we all loved. It's still good, just incomparable the original. It is its own show now, different to what Jeremy, Richard and James gave us.

F35 you are cleared to engage and terminate target with extreme finesse
Good (and silly) to test the newer 720S to the P1. The 911 GT3 got around that long Nurburgring track faster than the much more expensive 918 which Porsche no longer produces.
The speedtail scene had me thinking of a showcase event in FORZA horizon 4 😂🤣 but 163727284848263621515x cooler
I think Top Gear is very lucky to have Chris Harris. I don't believe the show would have retained it's as much of it's popularity after 2016 if it wasn't for Chris. I love McLaren and this is one of my favorite videos of them being driven.

That's why top gear are completely fake.. Never ever believe anything thay say..
They'll obviously user different takes from different runs. The fastest run may have the least talking. They may use commentary from a slower initial run against exterior takes from the fastest external run as that likely has the least speaking. No other option there tbh

Saw 2 F35 at 500ft close offset formation flying over exmoor area at end of August 2020,first sighting for me and God it was mighty impressive, you could see the 5th gen.

The race against the F35 fighter jet is an historic event. It’s the only time in history a Mc Laren raced a machine that is even less reliable than the car itself.

I think the close times demonstrates your limits as a driver, put the two cars in a professional drivers hand , the gap between P1 and 720S will be way bigger. You have to have the balls to trust the downforce with the P1
If you see carefully, the lap he does in the 720s wasn't captured in a single shot.
The drivers display switches between normal mode and race mode.
People thinks the Speed tails is faster than the F35, but the F35 need time to accelerate and when it’s in the air, it’s the most fastest thing.

I wish they said which tires were on the p1 and 720. Because if the p1 has trofeo Rs and the 720 had standard pirelli, that's even more insane. To be fair. They both could of been on the standard summer tires.

No matter how fast that speedtail is, it's still stuck on the ground and tops out at only 250mph, while the F35 can go supersonic (yeah for only short time I know) and can go anywhere LOL
