Current plan is to cut content back a fair bit so I can just round things off and release the game (although still probably not for a while yet - unlikely this year, at least).
All the levels from the original Star Road are basically done, except for hidden palace. So, I just need to make that level, and also add a handful of missing stars in various levels, fix a bunch of bugs, other smaller stuff.
Most levels do not have the time attack or intro stage fully complete, I can probably reduce the work load here by not remixing all the time attack music.
Hub still needs some work, and have not started on the title screen.
Probably a bunch of other less noteworthy things I am not thinking of, but anyway, this should fast track things.
The model for course 16 is complete and in the game, but none of the actual level content, so I'll probably just cut it. Even without it, there are several new levels/areas compared to Star Road, in the first arc.

Everything looks remarkable, I didn't know all of this could be done solely with the ds port, I'd love to see more of this.
If i didn't know it was a Ds Romhack, I'd think this is a Super Mario Odyssey Mod :⁰
Its the DS remake but yea some rom hacks like Star World and SM256 have so much potential, its crazy.
Skelux is a bit of a programing genius. He made one of the best SM64 romhacks ever, and it took the romhacking community almost a decade to catch up to his level.
@@SlothenlyOptimist DS rom hacking has been going pretty fast in recent times. There has been a lot of development and I am pretty sure Skelux will still manage to top that!
I've always loved the style of Star Road. There was something magical about it as a kid, I had never really played a homemade video game before. it was cool to try and see how he made everything and where he got the assets from. It had a magical vibe that I've never seen matched or replicated. It's the only sm64 hack that I've ever played that really felt like a cohesive Homemade sequel to sm64.

By now I have completely lost hope for the release of this game and also the progress counter on the patreon page which could give you an idea of how far the project is from being completed is literally of no use since it resets every now and then and in fact I remember what time ago the "Hub (intro/ending)" section was at 3/5 and now it's back at 0/5.
I understand not to rush and improve something but waiting 12 years is just absurd. Those who write "take your time" make me laugh.
But do these people have any idea how long we've been waiting to play it?

Honestly dude, I'm kinda getting teary eyed seeing you post about Star World. I'm gonna be honest, it's not because the game (I haven't been following super closely TBH), it's because I saw how low you were before, and seeing your posts about this game, it seems like your pretty excited with the progress you've been making, and it's nice to see you happy about your project that you've worked so hard on.

This was honestly so beautiful. To play a game that carries the spirt of super mario 64 is a dream.
also in regards to you cutting content to release the game earlier, I wouldn't mind waiting forever how long if it means you are able to complete your true vision for this game. Either way I'm excited!
Same, I'd rather continue waiting for the full vision to be in the game, but given all the crap that Skelux is going through I understand it.
is it possible for you to horizontally squish the HUD with the idea of it being stretched back into 16:9 again?
I'd probably call this an Anamorphic HUD, (anamorphic aspect ratios is basically making an image, video or game run in a 4:3 resolution but rendered with the expectation that the user will stretch that to another aspect ratio, in this case 16:9)

Honestly in whatever format that you decide to release this game, I think the community is going to be extremely happy with it. As a long time follower of you and this project, I absolutely loved your original star world hack and i can't wait for the day where I can finally play an enhanced version of it on the DS. That game over area is very sick to see, i always tried to get out of bounds on the og game, never could, but seeing this is how i imagined... or how you made us imagine it.
After all the hell you've been through, I'm just glad you're OK. Seeing Star Road again however is a reminder that while bad times may come, there's always more good times to look forward to.

As much as my nostalgic mind craves to play something that combines two of my favorite iterations of Mario titles into one, seriously take as much time as you need to complete this.

This may be the wrong place to put this, and I'm sorry for that. Selfishly speaking, you were just that guy who made a mod for N64 making it multiplayer for the longest time to me. Then I saw your name appear when I started looking at N64 mario mods. After a while, I saw your RUclips channel and saw other multiplayer mods, and other WIP.
I had no clue what you were going through, but I thought about your work from time to time over these past few months. Until just now, moments ago, I had no idea.

I understand your choice of releasing the game soon with its actual content, but it doesn't mean the other ideas have to be scrapped: you could either release it like sonic 3 and knuckles (2 different games that complete each others) or release a full version later and consider this a massive demo (deltarune like). Either that or just stop with star road after this release, wich i can respect. Either way, don't let others dictate what you must do and take your time (i think i'm ready to wait another 8 years!). Good luck with work and life!

I think one big way to vastly improve the experience is to saturate the colors more. Just take a look at Super Mario 3D Land compared to SM64DS. It looks so much better due to the color choice. 3DS Games in general have one of the best color palettes that just scream fun. I would love if you could take a look at that.

I'm happy to see the game over area remade, when I first played Star Road as a kid, it was one of my favorite areas, somber yet calming.
A delayed game is eventually good, but a rushed game is forever bad.

Glad your back pal! Hope you are doing well, question though, are you able to make SM64 Multiplayer 4 Player? P1 is Mario, P2 is Luigi, P3 is Yellow Mario and P4 is Blue or Purple Luigi.

Take your good ol' time. Don't rush yourself; if you do then you'll have pressure on yourself, which can be exhausting! I am very glad everything is still in good shape, and it's also really impressive with what we can do with the DS port of SM64!
