Miami-Dade Fire Rescue gives behind-the-scenes look at Surfside building emergency operation

- Miami-Dade Fire Rescue released video this weekend showing the ongoing search efforts taking place at the Surfside, Fla. Champlain Towers South building which partially collapsed two weeks ago and was later demolished this past week.
Capt. Tony Trim with Florida Task Force One, Urban Search and Rescue Team, provided details of the operation in a video taken by the organization, showing the various equipment being used and the scope of the operation.
"We wanted to get a little bit closer so you can have a full appreciation of the amount of debris, the denseness of the concrete, the amount of iron, the amount of material we need to move," he said, adding that they have about 150 workers "breaking and breaching" through concrete and steel.
Through the efforts, which recently moved into a search and recovery mission late this past week, a total of 86 victims have been found, with 43 still potentially missing. A total of 211 have also been accounted for.

Thanks for overstating the obvious. Fire and rescue personnel don't get paid to lounge around the fire stations every day. Ok? US soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan did it in full battle gear all day every day. Did they complain or gloat, ever?

Me either. A little black kitty made it out. Couple family members made it out alive too. Another member of family still missing. They found the kitty wondering around the debris. Reunited.

I know that it is hard for you to have made the decision to go to search and recovery, but I think it is the best decision because I am sure the chances of finding anymore survivors at this point are very slim! Even if lets say someone survived in a hole, there is no water or food for 17 days. It would take a true miracle for anyone to be alive in that. I wish I coupd forget about the woman who was screaming for help and the workers tried desperately to reach her...then silence.

Oh my gosh, absolutely!!! Not to mention the slow pace so you don’t disturb any bodies they come across. You can’t just go ripping through it. 🙄🙄
Somebody in the first few days was complaining that there should have been bucket brigades. I guess he/she thought workers could just pick up the concrete, steel, furniture, broken appliances, and other tons of rubble with their hands and put it in buckets and then hand it off. No wonder there are so many people who believe and vote for idiots and liars.
And they have to be really gentle when they move debris, or they might damage a body (or living person).
Absolutely, people have no idea what they’re talking about, just start criticizing within 24 hrs.

I just wish the Angel's would of saved the people falling in the rubble while sleeping in their beds. I was taught if you were a believer God would protect you. There were innocent children in that building falling to their death in their sleep.

Alphonse, some people have shorter lives and some live long We all have a special purpose and by their deaths I believe that others will be saved from a similar fate. Florida and our country as a whole will now have to find better ways to build and maintain these privately owned condos, and save the owners from themselves. So many of these were built in the 70s and 80s and there has to be a better way.

This pretty much shows how much gotta be done and all the gear gotta use to find anyone and get rid of rubble any. like a cool behind the scenes of how stuff gets done.
What you do is get everyone in the community moving debris immediately. You don't coordinate a rescue you get n the there and do it. People could of been saved.

I've worked on several demolitions before, but nothing of this magnitude. That is a lot of work and there is a lot of danger involved.. Many kudos to these men & women. Plus the fact that they encounter the victim's, ugh, I could never do that. Many prayers, blessings and thanks to these rescuers. And my heart goes out to all of the families. I can't even imagine what they're going through. 💔

Cannot imagine still terming it a rescue. Sadly this is recovery. I cannot imagine the sick feeling trying to find victims in all that debris, in that heat. It must be overwhelming.
Unbelievable efforts being made by these workers. Great Americans. Dedicated people.

The firefighters are earning their pay now. before this disaster, they had a cush job.

All these workers and the whole main team we have seen in the briefings every day, including the County Mayor Levine Cava, the Mayor of Surfside (can’t remember his name), the police and fire chiefs AND the ASL signing lady, ALL deserve medals for the work they have put in and the harrowing things they must have seen whilst either working on or dealing with the aftermath of the rubble site !
