Great video! This video was exactly the knowledge I was lookinĝ for to troubleshoot an electric fan my friend is having trouble with. Thanks for posting. This video really helped me to get my friends pickup cooling properly again.
Yeah no power to the relay, Now what? You stopped right when I needed you to keep going, I hope you see this and answer. Seen a couple other comments just like mine HELP! Thanks man, all other info in your video was great though
I had my fan go out on my truck and had to replace it as the motor was bad. The new one sounds much quieter than the original one, but works great! Now my AC works better, but now I know what to turn to if the fan starts acting up again. PS: When you said "car" at the beginning, that is an insult! Lol. That is no car it's a truck! Anyway, thanks for the video!
Great video, but mine’s a 2012 5.7 HEMI, and fuse box is different. That red 10a fuse controls the drivers power window on mine, not the rad fan relay. Also tried the shorting across the 2 terminals in the rad fan relay cavity, but the fan never turned on. I know the fan itself is good as I applied 12V at the plug-in on the housing, and the fan turned on. I’m getting the P0480 code periodically, which I can delete with my tuner, but it comes back sometimes sooner, sometimes later. Is there a correct troubleshooting method for 2012 RAM’s with the 5.7L HEMI?
My 2012 us all of a sudden getting hot. If I sit and idle too long it gets close to redline. I'll have to check these to see if that's my issues. What is the normal operating temp for the 5.7? This is the first summer I've had it and don't know what is normal. I know I was low so I added some coolant but I'll be checking these other things asap. Thanks for the helpful video.
Probably fan clutch. The 5.7’s use a hybrid mechanical/electric fan setup. One medium sized engine driven clutch fan and one small electric fan in front of it that turns on when a/c is turned on. The v6 trucks use a single large electric fan. Which imo is a better setup. It takes up less space in the engine bay as a bonus to make future repairs easier. It’s a popular well known swap to use the v6 electric fan on the v8 trucks and frees up a few hp. The new 2019+ rams actually use the v6 fan from the factory on all the trucks now since it’s a better setup and more reliable. A new doorman knockoff of the Oem electric fan only cost me 110$ on amazon for my 2012 truck. However I’m sure you could find a oem unit at a junkyard for cheap. This guy has a good video on the fan swap… ruclips.net/video/Fn0whRnJqWU/видео.html
My fan will not come on at all when I turn the key air conditioning on and when I do the wire check I have no power to those two terminals underneath the relay are these the only relay and fuse the 60 amp and then the relay and then to 10 amp was the only relays for that
I seem to be having the opposite problem. My radiator fan didnt turn off until I found this video and unplugged the relay connection you show in the start of the video. Whay would be my next discourse from there?
I have a 2013 Ram 1500 with the 3.6 engine and I’m having some overheating problems but noticed the fan not spinning very fast and not coming on when it should, would that be the relay or just replace the fan assembly?
I'm having a problem with my radiator fan it doesn't come on I just did that test and I have no power to those two prongs where you suck the wire into what does that mean my fan will not come on at all I have a 2011 Dodge Ram 1500 5.7 l
My fan has only 2 pins and the harness has power on the wrong slot, one without a pin, the fan with direct power works and both fuses have power but there is no power to the correct pin
My fan is working but I did go ahead and replace my relayed but my check engine light is on again. When I replace the relay I unhooked the battery completely to clear the code.
Took fan out and ran off the battery, no problem. Checked the two fuses and relay, all good. tried to jump across the relay, but no spark, no run. Anything else i can try? Thanks for the vid.
@Rick James haven't fixed yet. Went to Dodge dealer. They spent couple hours on it. They're guessing it is the Tepin or brain box. $2000.00 to replace it.
Great video. Really was helpful I have a 2011 ram 1500 5.7 bighorn 4x4 crew cab. I pulled the relay and jumped the two pins. Fan didn’t come on. The 60 fuse is good so I assumed the fan was no good. Replaced it and it still doesn’t work. I have voltage at the top left pin in the relay slot. I jumped the relay pins again and have voltage at one side of 60 amp slot. Put 60 amp fuse back in and checked for voltage at the fan connector I had nothing. 60 amp fuse is good. Checked it for continuity Any suggestions?
Same thing happening to mine but not overheating, as fan does come on, just cant get to work as showed in this video. I'm still trouble shooting. I think the wire from that pin might a almost break somewhere in it. As there no continuity from bottom right slot to any wire from fan or relay
I have a 2012 Ram 1500 with a brand new second in the last year fan clutch in it and a new thermostat and a new water pump in july 2023. The new fan clutch is Barely 10 days old and has not stopped running except for when the truck is off of course... Where I live it's about 25 to 45° every day right now cuz it's winter time here. I pulled out the relay the fuse and disconnected the harness near the radiator and the fan clutch still runs... All I want to do right now is just shut it off because it sounds like an airplane taking off every time i drive it-! until my mechanic can figure out what the hell is going on... And right now I don't trust them because a year ago when they installed a new fan blade plus new fan clutch it started doing that then, and I drove it for a year not really paying a lot of attention to it but then I started to realize that there was something wrong when other mechanics told me there was-! 1: what could be wrong and 2: how do you shut this thing off without pulling the wrong fuse and killing the whole engine, etc??!!
I have a 2011 dodge ram 1500 outdoorsman 4.7 and i tryed everything even try to do the bridge thing in the fuse box but my fan still wont turn on u able to help me out
Yes worth it in my opinion if van is alright otherwise. I did check at O'Reilly's for a fan for my 2015 which is two or I should say dual fan in one unit. I questioned the price at $350.00 but they said the company makes good product. I saw much cheaper ones but guys were complaining that they burnes out in a short time. Good luck. I am just starting to take mine apart to check connections and fuses & relays
Hey i did the test you showed and the fan didn't come on but i reset the battery then it threw a code Open Circuit. Is it the fan or something else? Any thoughts would be much appreciated! Btw its a 2011 dodge ram 1500 Big Horn 4.7L engine

I changed the radiator fan and it still was not coming on. I bypassed it like you showed and it hummed and barely turned. What is my next step?
Did all the steps then jumped it it turns in bought new relays and then still doesn't turn on what might b reasons for that
Super helpful, short and accurate

Great videos what was the red two pens that you use what is that or what apparatus is that

I have a 2011 1500 too. My fan is working fine, but I got a check engine code P0481, which is for the fan relay. What is the problem?
I have a 2012 ram 1500. Truck runs hit at idle. What if you have no voltage on those relay pins you shorted together?
Was going to ask a question but based on the responses to all the other questions that would be a waste of time.
Thanks. Where is the high-speed fan relay?
Wat if the 60amp fuse keep blowing?

The brown/blue wire going to relay in front of radiator trying to trace back to tipm, I believe that's the wire with problems.

Can you start it manually with your hand if your relay is faulty?
If the fan does spins but makes a loud noise what that means ? Fan motor is bad?
